Rastakhan Post-Nerf Odd Paladin - #36 Legend (Sonagi)
4-0 with this deck. lol, what nerfs?
Upcoming Rastakhan's Rumble Nerfs (December 19th): Wild Growth, Nourish, Level Up, Saronite Chain Gang and Leeching Poison
Whoa! Unexpected but probably a good idea.
Hunter will now undoubtedly be top of the meta, as none of its cards were nerfed and its biggest counter (Odd Paladin) was. Honestly it might even be bad enough that Blizzard won’t wait until rotation and issue another nerf. Watch out for Priest, too. Both the Cloning Gallery/Spellstone version and the APM version hated Odd Paladin and Kingsbane Rogue.
The nerfs weird out Druid’s curve more than it hampers their overall strategy. Wild growth now curves awkwardly into Ferocious Howl and Branching Paths. Nourish curves more awkwardly into Spreading Plague. I think he’ll still be viable, but much more vulnerable to midrange, which is good since he basically iced them out of the meta.
Odd Pally might still be playable, but it’s definitely gonna rely more on pulling Sunkeeper Tarim from Stonehill Defender. We’ll probably see more Odd Rogue as the aggro deck of choice. I don’t think Aggro Mage or Aggro Shaman have the juice to become major players, even with their unwinnable Druid matchup getting nerfed. Zoolock likes less competition, too, but assuming that Saronite’s new battlecry ignores the Keleseth/Soul Infusion buffs, that’s actually really bad!
Leeching Poison (read: Kingsbane) is definitely a proactive nerf – that is, they knew that if Odd Paladin was weakened, Kingsbane would be too powerful. Without the healing I don’t think this deck works anymore against anything but the greediest control lists. Hate to say it but I think this is the only nerf that will kill off its respective deck (err, besides Saronite killing infinite Shudderwock of course)
Rastakhan Big Spell Mage - #22 Legend (Zyrios)
It’s just there as a (unconventional) tech against APM Priest – you can use any other standard Big Spell Mage card.. probably Dragoncaller Alanna or Sindragosa since they play nice with Bright-Eyed Scout.
Rumble Run Best Shrines and Strategies
Cleared this after about a dozen tries with Jan’alai’s Flame. Final boss was the Divine Shield Paladin, which I basically starved out/outvalued. The surprise MVP was the upgrade that gave minions adjacent to the shrine Taunt. I could dump a bunch of tiny minions to keep my shrine and important effect minions safe… including Jan’alai protecting Ragnaros… which I drafted two of. I even drafted a Yogg Saron, too, but won before I was forced to play ‘im.
If you run this, grab a Fan of Flames and don’t forget that upgrading your Hero Power also refreshes it. You can take out 3-health shrines on your first turn using Ping -> Upgrade -> Ping.
Standout Rastakhan's Rumble Decks From Week 1
Poor little expac. Nothing they printed could have competed with the power/consistency/value of the cards from KFT and KnC. Well, they could’ve, but then they’d find themselves with the same powercreep problem a year from now.
The thing is, though the meta is stale, it IS quite balanced and diverse. Raising the question of what, if anything, they’ll nerf? You could make a case for Play Dead, Lesser Emerald Spellstone, and Deathstalker Rexxar (ideally Branching Paths/Spreading Plague too, but Blizzard seems contractually obligated to never nerf Druid). The thing is, any nerfs would be more about winkingly retiring cards ‘early’ rather than actually balancing OP cards/overtuned decks. That rubs against the philosophy of what nerfing is for. Will be interesting to see how Blizz plays this one out.
At least we all save on dust and will have extra fun once the rotation happens :\
Allad's Legend Rastakhan Spiteful Dragon Priest ft. Princess Talanji
I would guess it’s just for the Princess Talanji psynergy- any Dragon, taunt, or tech card you feel like running should be fine. Looks like there might be room for an extra Free From Amber too.
Titan's Rastakhan Hakkar Warrior
It’s so close to the Mechathun combo with Boomship/Malygos/Inner Rage. Is there a reason Hakkar is better?
Rastakhan’s Rumble Big Beast Druid: The Past and Future of the Archetype
The pieces fit together so well that I’d be pretty flabbergasted if this didn’t become a playable archetype. The only potential hangup is if 1) other Druid decks are better (in which case, wait til rotation) or 2) it winds up uniquely vulnerable to common removal- Mass Hysteria, Supercollider, and Psychic Scream feel particularly troublesome, and besides Witching Hour you don’t have any value plays if your threats dry up. But that’s just a “maybe”.
Spellzerker
Mage miiiight play this in aggro, the same way it played Armani Berserker. I feel like Armani pumps out better damage though.
Rogue might feel fine playing this to turn Backstab, Shiv, and especially Fan of Knives into a real threat. 3 damage AoE really hits the sweet spot- if you’ve been playing Miracle lately, you know how boards of 3/3s (Greater Emerald Spellstone, Zoolock) were practically an instant loss. Backstab, Shiv, or even a Razorpetal can reliably activate this, but honestly I think you’re fine playing it T2- it makes things plenty awkward for your opponent on its own.
Wartbringer
Instead of investing all those cards to play this just, like, play Fire Plume Phoenix or something. shammy’s draw power isn’t that great where you wanna toss around fragile 1-drops, and his removal spells are fine enough where you don’t need this as a defensive play.
Stolen Steel
Yo Bliz, these cards don’t really see play even at 1 mana. Was the ability to fish for a stronger weapon really that busted in Odd Rogue?
Former Champ
Worth experimenting with Spirit of the Shark and Unstable Evolution. That’s about it.
Scarab Egg
Plays nice with Flametongue totem and Dire Wolf Alpha. Easier to work with than Replicating Menace, so I think it’ll see play.
Eggs are secretly my favorite type of minion. Don’t tell anybody.
Arena Treasure Chest
Most classes have a way to draw 2 cards for 3 mana, so you need some way to activate this multiple times to be worth it. That, or just rely on the “soft stealth” (Divine Spirit combo priest?)
Hunter, Rogue, and Priest all have ways to pull multiple deathrattles from this, but Deathrattle Rogue/Hunter need to fight fast to get threats on the board, and Priest actually runs the risk of overdrawing if he clones/revives this too much.
Bloodclaw
A guaranteed way for your healing cards to have value earlygame, while letting you deal with early tokens. But wait, isn’t that what Crystallizer is for?
Serrated Tooth
This > Sharkfin Fan > Southsea Captain is a pretty good curve. It dies instantly to Hellfire but you can’t win em all, eh?
Getting the effect is a bit persnickety because you have to plan it two turns ahead. But helping to activate Ticket Scalper or Blightnozzle Crawler might be worth it.
Demonbolt
Control would rather run Siphon Soul.
Okay in Zoo, but you don’t have 4+ minions all that often in Zoo, believe it or not- and it doesn’t quite fit the aggressive gameplan. They’d probably rather run Silence.
Banana Buffoon
This actually seems kinda good?! Psynergy with Spellspam and Handsize.
Rastakhan's Rumble Dragon Warrior: The Past and Future of the Archetype
What about the play hyped up by Blizzard’s reveal itself – cloning all your Dragons with Voone, then dumping them via The Boomship. (In theory) You lay waste to your opponent’s minions, make a huge threatening board, and even start a value engine if Yseras are in there.
Not a hard must, but surprisingly effective for cycling with 1-drops. Even just dropping her T3 with nothing to back her up works astonishingly well: people will use their resources very aggressively/inefficiently to get rid of her.
There’s many 3-cost cards to try in her place: Tar Creeper, Stonehill Defender, Mirror Entity, Vicious Fledgling, Gluttonous Ooze, Ironbeak Owl… depends on which decks you wanna hate on.
