Potion Vendor
This is bonkers good, Priest (with Northshire and Pyromancer) and Heal druid will be all over this.
Conjurer's Calling
It’s a very cool idea. I’m not sure it’s good against enemy minions, except in an emergency- Polymorph is just 1 mana more, cancels Deathrattles and more thoroughly messes with their res pool. Even Spellbreaker seems like a better deal.
Against your own minions? This is getting interesting… turn an injured minion into two solid ones… and it’s one of the best/cheapest cards to combo with Kadghar! I’m just sad Corridor Creeper and Arcane Tryant are rotating. The only Minions Mage can “evolve mana cheat” with this are Giants and Rabble Bouncer iirc.
Barista Lynchen
My assumption is that it WON’T work with Shudderwock because it specifies “OTHER Battlecry Minions”- Shudderwock doesn’t hurt himself when he copies Dragonmaw Scorcher, so he won’t copy himself with this card.
Her stats aren’t terrible for a five drop and the effect is real good, whether that’s doubling up on a big Battlecry that sticks or serving as a hand refill for lots of tiny Battlecries (Lackeys??)
Has potential for sure.
Exotic Mountseller
Augmented Elekk, Duskbat, Blink Fox, Emperor Cobra, Ironbeak Owl, Ironfur Grizzly, Silverback Patriarch, King Mukla, Jungle Panther, Messenger Raven, Ornery Tortoise.
Kinda ok if you’re a Small-Spell deck and want a different high-end payoff card than Auctioneer. Druid, Priest, and Mage might be able to pull it off.
The Boom Reaver
Uhhh we still need better minions to serve as the payoff for this effect IMO. Battlecry means this plays awkward with The Boomship and Dimensional Ripper.
Hench-Clan Hag
Very similar to Grim Necromancer, which didn’t see play but also happened to be around during the worst meta for token decks (Spreading Plague, Defile, Psychic Scream). Needless to say you’re really gonna want the bump from the tribe synergies.
Demon, Totem, Dragon don’t really have any payoffs from being on your board rn.
Mechs are already spoiled for options near this slot with Microtech Controller, Replicating Menace, and Explodinator.
Murlocs works, and Pirates might be the very best- works great with Cannon Barrage, Southsea Captain, Bloodsail Howler, and won’t lowroll your Captain Hooktusk turn.
Archivist Elysiana
I actually think it’s kinda lame that this card techs so easily against Hakkar, and with an effect that fatigue decks will want to use anyway :/ it’s nice for matches to.. y’know.. end at some point.
On the flip side, it’s nice that now any deck can play Hakkar and remove their own bloods, not just Paladin and Warlock.
Shimmerfly
For Zul’Jin… this can give you a spell that backfires, making Secret Plan a more consistent AND higher value choice. Unless you really need a 1/1.
I can’t imagine any particular deck that loves to run this, but 1 drops that replace themselves usually work fine tossed into a deck. Especially for Hunter, who struggles for card draw and will soon have very few good 1-drop beasts (well, ACTUAL 1-drop beats, you don’t want Springpaw or Timber Wolf on an empty board).
Dimensional Ripper
Remember when Warrior had Gather Your Party AND Woecleaver AND The Boomship all in standard, and Big Warrior was still an off-meta deck? This will need way way more support to ever be a thing, is what I’m saying. Otherwise it will be relegated to only the most slow and grindy and value-based Metas. Even then you’ll need harsh buildaround requirements and some luck.
Weird that there’s so many Big/Recruit sorta cards this expansion. Are they seeing them as playing some particular role in the Specialist format? Or did they just feel like revisiting the theme?
Call to Adventure
A tempting card for Prelate decks or Big Decks, actually. Like, if you could get it so the cheapest minions in your deck are Zilliax and Mechano-Egg this would actually be kinda cool.
Underbelly Fence
Cheap and sturdy Rush Minions is exactly what Rogue needs to fend off early aggression, which has always been her biggest weakness.
Not sure you’d want to run Pilfer or Stolen Steel just to curve easily with this card. Saving it for midgame when you’ve played Blink Fox or Hench-Clan Burglar is just fine. There will be enough random 2 and 3 drops to crash into.
Aranasi Broodmother
The stats aren’t TERRIBLE – Rin could be a surprisingly good Taunt on curve, for instance. But this effect is just ok. Biggest downside is that it does nothing if you get it in your mulligan or earlygame or when you’re topped off on health already.
You can use Sense Demons or Plot Twist with this for (slightly RNG) spot healing, which ain’t bad. But not great either.
With the Warlock cards so far there’s a clear “when you draw…” theme they’re pushing for Gul’dan. Not sure how good any of em are, but the idea’s kinda cool.
Lucentbark
I’m still a bit skeptical about this whole heal Druid thing. A regenerating taunt is ok I guess. Will be vulnerable to Sap and Hex and the like, but that’s true of any big taunt with a Deathrattle.
Big Bad Archmage
A good target for Muckmorpher/Eureka and that’s about it. For other cheat-outs there are probably better targets for Jepetto, Dreampetal Florist, and Zerek’s Cloning Gallery.
Even if you CAN cheat him out, he’s a dead card in hand until you’re absolutely positively 100% sure your opponent has no more removal. … And no combo or burst damage to kill you.
Lifeweaver
Seems a bit finicky but nothing says you have to play her T3, you can wait until you stick some lifesteal minions or have a good minion-healing turn with… whatever they print to replace Fungal Enchanter.
Overall seems too challenging and low-impact. Random Druid spells aren’t a good payoff, they’re either situational or overcosted or completely unusable (consider getting Juicy Psychmelon, getting a ramp spell in your lategame, or getting one of the many, many spells that only work with beasts!)
Dreamway Guardians
All the fun of playing Firefly T2, but with lifesteal to top you off from Hero Powering against enemies and whatnot. Plays nice with Lifeweaver and Crystalsong Portal and Crystal Stag and Tokens alike. Usable by faster decks for token synergy and slower decks to punish opponents spamming 1/1s.
They really needed to build Druid from square 1 this expansion and I’m glad they’re giving him so many fresh cards that actually work with each other!
Plot Twist
Warlock already has a 2-mana way to fish for the card he needs, and doesn’t have to waste a card slot on it. I just really don’t see the benefit to playing this compared to just … drawing cards.
Initial thoughts: You can dump cards in your hand using EVIL Genius and the like, then use this to trade up with cards from your deck. But that’s an awfully complicated way just to draw things (and it makes your topdecks worse.) You can combo it with Soularium to cancel out the discard effect but works out to be the equivalent of.. 3 mana draw two cards.
You can use it with Betrug or Dollmaster Dorian, and this has the most potential, but we’ll need to see more big deathrattle minions to make this viable IMO. Building your deck around waiting til turns 7 and 10 just to trigger “some sorta Deathrattles I guess” seems suss.
You can combo this with Augmented Elekk for the equivalent of Dead Man’s Hand… but only while Elekk is on the field. I don’t get it honestly.
Nine Lives
A deck that just runs Spider Bombs and this sounds annoying as hell.
We’ll have to see what other deathrattle effects come around; not sure if Spider Egg/Obliviotron/Mechanical Welp are quiiiite enough on their own to make Deathrattle Hunter a thing again.
Note too that Nechromechanic is still in the wings, and Nine Lives works wonderfully with it for lategame plays. If you want to see REAL greed: Between this card, Necromechanic, Undatakah, and Zuljin, you can pop off the same Deathrattle more than a dozen times (!?!).
Silence Priest seems dope, I’m on board.
