Rattling the Quest Cage: Decks for Laddering with Rogue in the Boomsday meta
You mention Malygos Rogue but no Pogo-Rogue? Well Pogo-Rogue is worse than Kingsbane, which is already worse than Quest. But it is so fun to play.
A common theme seen in Rogue is that it usually gets nerfed, and then it still says on top. Valeera always finds a way.

You already have 3 board clears. Defile is already extremely good when you have so many activators for it. Since you have so much cycle, you don’t need more than those board clears.

Really happy to see this. With MtG:A open beta recently out, Artifact coming out too, and the staleness and huge polarity of the meta, I was not having fun playing Constructed in Hearthstone and had started playing other modes and games. Was disappointed when they said they weren’t going to nerf anything. It’s true that the meta is balanced, it’s not like when Cubelock and Even Paladin where the only decks on ladder, but nerfs shake the meta, and it’s not like Giggling Inventor or Ultimate Infestation are fair cards.
Hoping for:
* Giggling Inventor -> 6 mana. The card is busted, especially in Arena. Sludge Belcher and Tar Creeper were above average neutral Taunts, but this is on another league of its own. If Mossy Horror or Blood Knight weren’t cards, it would be oppressive in Constructed too. I’m expecting a nerf to 6 mana, since making the main body 1/1 won’t be a noticeable enough nerf, and not spawning two Annoyotrons would kill the “soul” of the card (happened to Patches already, that was a shame, even though it was OP).
* Ultimate Infestation -> Quest Rogue treatment. Change 5s to 4s. The only sad part is that the flavor text says “Ghouls in the pipe, five by five”. An alternative nerf could be “Deal 5 damage. Summon a 4/4 Ghoul. Draw 3 cards. Gain 2 Armor. Heal your Hero for 1.”
* Quest Rogue -> Crystal Core now reads “Give minions in your hand and deck +3, +3” -> No more extra value when bouncing your stuff after quest completion, it’s too synergistic.
* Branching Paths -> Gain 5 armor instead of 6 armor.
* Warrior’s Tank Up hero power -> Gain 3 armor instead of 4. Aggro decks should have more than 10% a chance to win vs Odd Warrior. Besides, Hunter’s upgraded Hero Power deals 3 damage, not 4. Why the heck does Warrior get 4 instead of 3? Obviously not fair.

Yeah, this “race” is ridiculous. You complete all quests that you can, get your 30 wins in Constructed and then you need to wait until next day… No, not really. You can always play Arena. So basically the person who is able to play Arena the longest without sleeping, has the luck to draft good decks often and go on a long win streak in Arena is the one who will win. I don’t know where’s the fun in that “marathon”.
That 3000 pack winner was announced a while ago. Hopefully they don’t do something like that again. Lotteries are absurd and won’t get people hyped.

If they nerf that one, probably something like giving 5 armor instead of 6 would be an elegant nerf. The power of the card is its flexibility, not its mana efficiency.

They did say they were keeping an eye on Giggling Inventor. You should always keep cards that you know are kinda broken at their core until they rotate to Wild. Patches took a long time to nerf. I’m still holding on to my extra Ultimate Infestation, and maybe it gets hit this time.

Great article. I love the DKs as a concept and to play with them. However, it is true that many of them have a ridiculously high power level, and it’s frustrating not to draw them on time or to lose to the infinite value that some of them provide. The original Hero card, Jaraxxus, was a good but risky card. That’s how the DKs should have been. The power creep on Jaraxxus is sadly outrageous. The new hero cards (Hagatha, Dr Boom) seem to be tuned down and that’s good, I hope the next Hero cards are also not as powerful as some DKs.
I disagree with Garrosh being the worst DK. It’s true that his Hero Power is the worst (what was Blizzard thinking by giving him that crappy Hero Power? Did Jaina get Arcane Missiles for Hero Power? So why does Garrosh get Whirlwind? Shake my head… If at least it read “Deal 1 damage to all minions. Gain 1 armor for every damage dealt” then it would be decent. But not like this…). His weapon is however very powerful. DK Garrosh was a staple in the Witchwood meta, since it dealt very nicely with any kind of Rogue and Odd Paladin. Now he’s redundant because we got Supercollider, but he would still be a super good tempo tool if Midrange or Recruit Warrior were good decks. I think Thrall is slightly worse than Garrosh (you need a board and RNG can lowroll you), and Uther definitely is (win condition too unreliable).

I mean, you have to have Glinda stick for a turn, and then you can play two Darkness instead of one… Augmented Elekk + Darkness looks like a much more feasable combo to me…

By the time you reach the end of the deck there’s one of three possibilities:
1) You use all your remaining resources and you kill the opponent
2) You use all your remaining resources and the opponent survives
3) The opponent has killed you previously
As you can see, getting milled only matters in 2), and even then, it rarely matters, since if you have already wasted all your resources and the opponent has survived until then, you probably wouldn’t kill him with 2 or 3 extra turns of Hero Powering his face (many of these matchups are Druid or Warrior who outheal your Hero Power anyway). You might still have a board, but it’s only early or midrange minions which can get easily Taunted or AOEd. Basically, when you have consumed all your burn and the opponent survives, the match would be over whether you mill yourself or not. So the mill is most of the time not an issue.
The Rush Keyword – A Look at The Witchwood’s Underperforming Mechanic
The problem with Rush is that the keyword is useless on an empty board. This is a huge drawback if you’re the aggressor and the opponent is the control, since many, MANY times you have minions on board, but they don’t. The obvious conclusion is that Rush is nothing more than removal on a stick, that sometimes leaves a body behind. Otherwise, the card is an understatted minion, which is hard to justify in an aggressive deck. I believe they need to print Rush cards that don’t become useless when the opponent doesn’t have a minion on the board. For example, a 4 mana 4/3 with Rush and Battlecry: if your opponent doesn’t have any minions, gain Stealth until your next turn. Or Divine Shield. You have to be careful, obviously, not to give a powerful battlecry for Shudderwock. But make Rush not suck when the opponent has no minions, and we will THEN see the keword in tempo-aggressive strategies.

If I were a beginner, I’d rather open another Epic in my Classic pack (something like Brawl, Doomsayer, Preparation…) instead of this crap. If you want to try out cards that you don’t have, play Dungeon Run, best F2P content in the game.

Thank you, Blizzard, for diluting our Discover pool and, what’s worse, our Classic card pack pool. I mean, the commons at least are not that obnoxious, but the Epic… just think you could have gotten a Brawl or a Twisting Nether instead of this…

Oh, Stonekeep. The timing… haha! I don’t think anyone is happy to see the replacements we got. I’m actually upset that useless garbage will be diluting the pool. Not just the Discover pool, but the card pack pool. I’ve already opened 4 Mindgames from Classic sets, how can I be happy that another useless Epic is added into Standard?
Anyway, back to the substitutions, I think you went through them quite well. It would be nice to have a Dirty Rat kind of effect in Standard. And a card like Evolve should be in Classic for Shaman. But now that they have set the precedent that they can create new cards as substitutes, I hope the next replacements are good design cards and not lazy design cards. We’re not asking them to be on the level of the rotated cards, like you said. But it would be nice for them to have some use. Not like Shadowform or Mindgames. Did I already mention that I’ve opened 4 Mindgames and I’ve still to open a single Cabal Shadow Priest? Grrr…
Also, you reminded me that it’s totally UNFAIR that we newer players don’t get Old Murkeye or the Captain’s Parrot anymore. That’s disgraceful.
