“Discover" - An Ode to the Best Mechanic in the Game
Primordial Glyph is balanced, it’s just that it can be extremely good or extremely bad. I’ve played a ton of Aluneth Aggro Mage and it was a horrible feeling to not get at least a burn damage spell, which happens about 20% of the time. In Wild Primordial Glyph is much worse since the pool is diluted with horrible spells.

True, hadn’t thought about it! Mana Wyrm on 1 + Apprentice on 2 + This vs Odd Paladin might make it good enough to rush him down before he regains board control and swings the game with a Fungalmancer or Level Up. It definitely has a lot of portential.
Crystalsmith Kangor
This reminds me of Arcane Artificer: 1/2 stats that you’ll prefer to drop later in the game to get value and health. Arcane Artificer is better as it gives you armor instead of health, but on the other hand this minion is stickier thanks to Divine Shield, and if the opponent has to trade into it, it also gives you 4 extra health. Plus, it grants Divine Shield and Lifesteal to Corpsetaker, and can be tutored with Withchwood Piper or Countess Ashmore. Like Arcane Artificer, your opponent SHOULD prioritise removing it, since otherwise you’ll be getting a ton of value. I think it’s a great tool vs Aggro and can provide a huge swing if you have a Truesilver Champion equipped or you can also swing a Chillblade Champion with BoK on top of it. Will probably be an essential tool in Control Paladin, if the deck makes it into the meta, and I believe it will at some point in the next year and a half. Paladin already has some nice value tools with Valanyr, Lynessa and Spikeridged Steed, and a win condition with the DK Hero, it’s just that in general Aggro Paladins are better and other classes do the Control job better, but I do believe in Control Paladin, so any improvements on it are very welcome! 2.5/5 stars.

This is generally much better than Arcane Explosion. Sure, you miss other minions if there’s more than 3 of them, but I’d rather pay 1 less mana for the 90% of the situations where the opponent has 3 or less minions on board. Much easier to combo with the Spell Damage minions Mage is getting this expansion. Another slight disadvantage is that the opponent can play around this by putting a Stealthed or Can’t be targeted by spells or Hero Powers minion in the middle. But in general, I do believe the 1 less mana is much better over the whole AOE by Arcane Explosion. I’d only want Arcane Explosion pver this if I’m facing a ton of Odd Paladins, and that’s a horrible matchup for Aluneth Aggro Mage anyway. Rating this 3.5/5 stars.
Cosmic Anomaly
Hello, my name is Evolved Kobold. This card has +2/+1 in stats plus an Elemental Tag for the same cost and the same Spell Damage +2. Not to forget that I was rarely seen in competitive play, except in a deck called Freeze Mage. So yeah, forget about my existence and gaze at this power creep. 4/5 stars, this is strong in any Mage archetype that runs spells that do damage, so except Murloc Mage, pretty much everything. Maybe only as a one-of in Aluneth Aggro Mage, but I definitely see this replacing Lifedrinker in that deck.
Missile Launcher
Or, you know, utterly destroy Odd Paladin’s hopes. Or get a ton of value in the Control Mech Warrior deck that we’re expecting to see this expansion, with things like Acolyte of Pain, Cornered Sentry, the 1/3 that gives you 2 armor when hurt, etc.
Missile Launcher
Well yeah, at 5 mana this would have been a 4.5/5 stars, especially with Magnetic. One mana DOES make a huge difference in most of the cards. There’s a few where it’s not the case (Spreading Plague) and most where it indeed is (Fiery War Axe). Some cards should cost X.5 mana for them to be balanced, but since that’s impossible, they’re too good at X mana and not playable at X + 1 mana. I think this would hit the sweet spot at 5.5 mana. And of course, Warrior could benefit from this card’s self-inflicting damage, but this looks like an Odd Paladin sort of tech.
Missile Launcher
Making it 5 mana would have been broken (neutral Despicable Dreadlord), but at 6 mana it’s not good enough. It’s a nice tech vs Odd Paladin, though. So 2/5 stars.
Academic Espionage
WHAT. THE. EFFFF!!!!! Come on, Blizzard. Burgle effect is a casual archetype, let us enjoy it like it is. Why would you print this broken a$$ card????? WHY???? Let the cards cost (2) less, like Renounce Darkness or so, but cost (1). What in the world? It’s not like Rogue doesn’t have card draw, for goodness sake! Rated 10/5 stars, and I thought the Flobbidinous Floop or whatever its name is was broken. This outpaces it by miles. They cost (1), LOL!!! I say this as a Rogue fan, this type of cards are NOT HEALTHY for the game!
The Boomship
Taunt Warrior will never want to run this card. Recent iterations of the deck have cut all the big cost Taunts (Lich King, Primordial Drake, even Applebaum has been cut) because playing cheaper Taunts allows you to play other cards in the same turn, and Taunt Warrior needs to do that. So paying 9 mana to dump three lackluster minions, especially minions which lose value this way (Phantom Militia, Saronite Chain Gang) is just a big no-no for Taunt Warrior. No, this is for Big Recruit Warrior, which is already a deck.
The Boomship
Minions summoned by this already have Rush, no need to have Dr Boom in play.
The Boomship
Big Recruit Warrior was already a viable deck, albeit not too powerful, and less reliable than Taunt Warrior. This is probably the spell that will make it meta viable. The drawback of playing Big Recruit Warrior was that you would draw many of your big boys before you could Gather Your Party them or Woecleaver them. So far we compensated this by running Dead Man’s Hand. Now, if we are “unlucky” enough to draw the big minions before we recruit them, we just dump them with this spell and create a threatening board presence immediately. 9 mana for a Lich King, Ysera and Grommash? Yes, please! You can even still abuse Dead Man’s Hand to copy this spell and your big boys for a reload if you need to outvalue a Control Deck. I’m rating this spell 4.5/5 stars.
Hopper Rogue Deck List Guide - Boomsday - August 2018
I had a similar idea on how to build this deck. Will definitely try it on launch!
Eureka!
6 mana for drakkari is worse than 3 mana + 3 overload generally, since that deck wants to overload. Snowfury Giants you want to play them for free or almost for free. Even if you’re lucky drop a Giant on Turn 6, 95% of decks will easily deal with that.
Eureka!
There’s very few revealed Shaman cards so far, but do you believe Big Shaman is a possible deck with what we have right now? Methinks… no. No ramp like Druid. No resurrect like Priest. No survival tools like Warrior. Looks like a 1/5 stars card, but I would love Big Shaman to become a new viable archetype. Prove me wrong, people.
Fireworks Tech
Hey, Goblin bomb synergy! Although if I can choose the perfect curve, I’d still choose Dire Mole + Crackling Razormaw over this. This triggers a Deathrattle, so I can’t underestimate it. But it doesn’t look like a 2-drop that will snowball. 1 health is also terribly week to pings. Looks more like a mid/late game card than a 2-drop. 2.5/5 stars, I can slot it in my Mech Hunter.
Mechanical Whelp
This is a wanna-be Possessed Lackey, although it makes sense because it’s neutral. I don’t expect this to see much play, but one should not underestimate sticky minions. Devilsaur Egg has proven that it can be abused, but the big difference there, I believe, is that it costs only 3 mana for this minon’s 6 mana, so the combos are much, much more difficult to pull through. I do like this more than Skelemancer, since I can at least trade and get the Deathrattle, so it might not be too bad in Arena. 1/5 stars in Constructed, 2/5 stars in Arena.
Discover is indeed the best mechanic in Hearthstone. I always say that RNG done right is what makes a game like Hearthstone fun, and what real card games could never have. This mechanic does it: the choices are random, but you still get to pick, so there’s skill involved. In general good mechanics keep coming back into new expansions. Lifesteal, Poisonous, Discover, and recently Rush, are all great mechanics, and we will keep seeing them. Charge I believe we will be seeing less and less, although staples like Leeroy will always be there (and I think that’s OK, as long as we don’t have old Warsong Commander around).
