Purple's Odd Druid - July 2018
Sees Odd Druid deck. Sees no Gloom Stagg. Feels Bambi, man.
Cantelope's #1 Legend Miracle Rogue - July 2018
Yep. I think it mainly targets Spreading Plague. Since most Rogue minions are 3 attack or higher, you can go wide vs Druid if you have Mossy in your hand, since Spreading Plague will do nothing. I think I will start including it in my Miracle list.
Hearthstone’s Forgotten Format: What Will it Take to Make Wild Popular?
BTW, it also doesn’t help that Wild-only cards that were easily achievable before, like Old Murk-Eye, can now only be crafted with dust.
Hearthstone’s Forgotten Format: What Will it Take to Make Wild Popular?
Cost of Arcane Dust and real-money for Wild cards should be halved. I started playing last September and I got a Secret Mage deck in Standard after KnC. When the Wild event began, I realized I only needed Mad Scientist and Loatheb from Naxxramas to make it a Wild deck, so I bought the expansion with real-money. I enjoyed the format and bit the bullet, bought LoL too to add Forgotten Torch. LoL was a blast to play as Single-player content too. With the recent rotation Wild has deviated more from Standard, and I like the current metagame in Standard, so I haven’t been playing Wild. It’s just the cost as a non-veteran player… I want to buy BRM and get Emeperor Thaurissan and Flamewaker, but is it really worth it if I don’t play the format? Other games become cheaper after they’ve been released for a while, as is expected. So why not here? I paid the Collector’s Edition for StarCraft II, and recently Wings of Liberty became free to play. Did I complain? Of course not! Glad they did that to incentivize new players to get into the game! Don’t you want more people to play Wild? Then make it more accessible! Make it also purchasable with in-game gold! And of course the packs should also cost half the gold.

Why would veteran players complain about cutting the cost of Wild cards and packs in half? You guys enjoyed those cards in Standard, so you paid full price for it. I have been playing for less than a year and I had to buy Naxxramas and LoL with real money (Still haven’t bought BRM). Minion Adjustments Coming in an Upcoming Patch: Molten/Mountain Giant Becoming Elementals and More!
Question: don’t all creatures in MtG belong to a tribe? It’s been a long, long time since I played MtG. But I was surprised that there were minions in Hearthstone with no tribal tag.
Is There Such a Thing as a Too Varied Metagame?
Complaints about the current meta are stupid in my opinion. The nerfs hit the nail in the head so well, it’s unbelievable. People, enjoy this meta while it lasts. Un’goro was also great and then Blizzard printed Spreading Plague and Ultimate Infestation. I will take a balanced and unknown meta every day than pre-nerf Patches, OP Jades, pre-nerf Cubelock and pre-nerf Even Paladin every single time.
Blizzard's Off-Meta Spotlight Decks #9 - Odd Hunter, Murloc Mage, & Rush Warrior
Some exclusive Murloc Mage minions would be huge. If Brrrrrloc was neutral or Mage, it would be much better than Murloc Tidehunter. Let’s wait for more expansions, since we’re supposed to get more Murloc synergies.
Odd Hunter - Blizzard Off-Meta Report
Funny how this deck was all the rage at the beginning of the Witchwood, and now it’s an off-meta highlight. Also surprised that Duskhaven Hunter has been chosen over Jungle Panther, but I guess you can wait for its optimal form, the extra 1 attack matters, and the beast synergy is not that important (you already have enough beasts to activate Kill Command). Looks like Blackwald Pixie is the tool to close games when Taunts have gotten in the way. I will give it a shot.
Journey to Un'Goro Quests - A Year Later
I’m hoping for a good odd-costed control tool in Warlock. I had the (mis)fortune of opening a Lakkari Sacrifice, and it’s obviously the worst Quest of all, despite getting a few legendaries and lots of “syngergy” cards. The main problem is obviously that the discard mechanic is too inconsistent in Hearthstone, and the reward of the Quest is aimed at Control Warlocks, not Tempo Warlocks (the discard mechanic is attached to Tempo in Hearthstone, look at Doomguard, Soulfire…). But I was thinking on an Odd Warlock with the Quest, going the Control route… the upgraded Hero Power is great for Control, since you don’t lose health while drawing your answers. The problem is, most of Warlock’s AOE is even-costed right now: Defile, Hellfire and Twisting Nether. We only have Lord Godfrey, and that’s just one card because it’s legendary. We also obviously lose Gul’Dan, although why not run Jaraxxus in that deck? I’m hoping that they print a card like 3 mana: discard your highest Attack minion, deal its damage to all enemy minions. A Shadowflame with discard synergy. It would make this Odd Quest Control Warlock somehow viable.
Hearthstone Needs More Hand Disruption Tools
It would have been nice to mention two extra disruption methods: stealing the deck with Toggwaggle before the combo goes off, and the combo Howlfiend + Treachery + Defile to make the opponent discard a ton of cards. Both are in standard, although they are fringe, of course. I would like the presence of Dirty Rat, but let’s not forget it’s RNG: it will win and lose you as many games as Mind Control Tech, and yet this latter card is hated a lot…
Tweaking Your Deck with Tech Cards in The Witchwood Meta
Mind Breaker was popular early in the Witchwood when Odd Paladin, Odd Hunter and Odd Rogue were all over the place. It was mostly run by Spiteful Druid, a deck full of tech choices which wanted to play things on curve and rarely wanted to hero power. A 2/5 on Turn 3 vs Odd Paladin was surprisingly good. Now that Spiteful Druid is out of place and Odd Paladin is not everywhere (at least not as much as initially), Mind Breaker is no longer seen.
Tweaking Your Deck with Tech Cards in The Witchwood Meta
I honestly believe Big Game Hunter is underrated right now, since many decks run juicy targets, like Giants or Lich Kings. However, I understand its main use would be in something like Druid, which lacks good single target removal for big foes other than Naturalize (and you can only run two Naturalizes). You would obviously not run this in Big Mage, for example, where you have two Polymorphs and two Voodoo Dolls. I’m running it in my Mill Druid deck with great success, since I don’t want to waste Naturalizes unless extremely necessary. I only run one copy of, however, since it’s a dead card until it can hit something. But when it hits… so satissfying! I even hit Baku in Odd Paladin once, opponent instantly conceded after that.
The Mind Control Tech Conundrum
I’m quite torn apart with MCT. On the one hand, it’s true it can be busted and it sucks when you’re on the receiving end and it gets your best minion. It also sucks when you use it and you get the only 1/1 among the other 5 minions your opponent has. And yet, it’s one of those cards where the other side CAN play around it. In Constructed you know what decks usually include it, and in Arena you should always be aware of the risk of playing 4+ minions. If you’re a Paladin with 3 minions vs none of the opponent in Arena, you shouldn’t press the Hero Power button, and I believe it’s good that this card punishes that. It’s also true that its stats and mana-cost are too good for the swing it provides. Maybe it would be more fair if it got nerfed to a 2/2 or to 4 mana. Although I would like it if its text changed to “if your opponent has 3 or more minions, gain control of the one with the lowest Attack”. Much more predictable outcome, and 99% of the time it won’t steal the minion that will completely flip the game result. If 3 minions is too easy a fulfillment, maybe make it a 3 mana 2/2 with the text I suggested.
Hearthstone Legendaries You Can "Safely" Disenchant - Ashes of Outland - May 2020
Also, Countess Ashmore sees less play than Dollmaster Dorian. Although Ashmore will presumably rise in power level with the next few expansions.
Hearthstone Legendaries You Can "Safely" Disenchant - Ashes of Outland - May 2020
Witchwood: I’d take out Glinda, Dorian and Glass Knight from the list. I would add instead Prince Liam (safe), Chameleos (safe) and Tess Greymane (probably safe). Prince Liam has a similar taste to Prince Malchezaar, it probably is a bit better, but not much. Chameleos is better than Shifter Zerus and Mind Vision, but it still doesn’t cut it: it’s RNG to get a good card from your opponent’s hand, the info it gives you is not that useful in Constructed (Arena would be something else), and is many times a dead card in hand (like when it copies The Coin…). Tess is super fun to play, but thief decks are memes, it’s highly unlikely those decks will be competitive when random cards from the opponent’s class are so inconsistent.
Big Rogue feat Dollmaster Dorian (guide added)
I love this deck and have a lot of fun, Kobold Illusionist and Dorian are some of my favorite cards. However, I keep seeing Splitting Festeroot in these Big Rogue lists, and after trying it in both Wild and Standard, I can firmly say: it sucks. Especially when it’s outclassed by Violet Wurm. The Wurm is not unplayable from hand, and has a similar Deathrattle, so to me it makes ALL the difference. That 3/3 difference in stats is HUGE.
Spectral Cutlass ft. MVP Pick Pocket
Spectral Cutlass is an interesting weapon. It is overcosted for sure, but it has Lifesteal – something ALL Rogues always wanted their weapons to have. It can also get extra durability, which is great when you want to take your matches longer. It is simply outclassed by Kingsbane because weapon removal simply destroy Cutlass. But once Cubelock and Kingsbane rotate out, Cutlass could shine (if they don’t print another Lifesteal weapon before Mammoth rotates). This deck looks like a normal thief Rogue deck, which is currently a meme. Can definitely have fun with it, but I’m hoping for a more competitive Cutlass in the future! 🙂
The Hearthstone Nerfs That Hit the Bullseye
I still think some of these nerfs were a bit too much. Ironbeak Owl should be a 3-mana 2/2. After its nerf it vanished, and has only seen play once Baku hit the game, and people needed to tech Silence to battle Cubelock. Now that Cubelock is not omni-present, many Baku decks have cut the owl because it’s simply a very weak card, sitting in your hand until you can get some value out of it. Spellbreaker at least has some decent stats even if you have to play him without a decent Silence target. Fiery War Axe was a necessary nerf, but it could have been changed to a 3/3 weapon. It’s ridiculous that the class most specialised in weapons would end up with an outclassed weapon. Current FWA is obviously worse than Rexxar’s Bow, Rallying Blade and Shadowblade, for example. I think the extra durability would have been fair (it would not make aggro Warrior decks OP, since by turn 5 you would want to equip Arcanite Reaper, and with 3 durability you would still have one durability left with FWA – so now you either sacrifice that durability or wait an extra turn. And waiting extra turns in Aggro is killer).
You forgot the most important reason to play Mossy Horror: his madman laugh when he enters the battlefield. I love the guy, and his name and looks remind me of Muzzy from the BBC.
