Dark Alley Pact
Well, this is basically mountain giant but more flexible – if your hand size hasn’t reached 8 cards by turn 4 you can at least still play this, albeit at the cost of summoning a weaker body.
Still, I’m not convinced that handlock will have a significant place in the upcoming meta. Aggro is just gonna ignore the 8/8 body on turn 4 and continue to go face. I’ll write this one off as a 2/5 for now.
Rise to the Occasion
I think the main issue with this is the sheer difficulty in completing the quest. You have to cycle through 9 1-drops total.
There is definitely support for this 1-drop Paladin archetype, most significantly Voracious Reader and First Day of School. Northwatch Commander is a maybe, if you’re going for a secret build. The new Cornelius Roame definitely looks helpful as well. But what if you don’t manage to draw any of those 4 specific cards? Then you’ll have to slowly draw a card per turn until you finish the 9 1-drop requirement, all the while playing heavily behind curve.
Another issue is the fact that many of the silver hand synergy cards you’d be holding in your hand will be dead cards until you manage to complete the quest, such as Day at the Faire.
Overall, I’ll call this a 3/5. Not a very consistent win condition.
Rise to the Occasion
But honestly, do you really need to corrupt it? Playing the uncorrupted version with this quest completed is basically 3 mana to summon 9/9 worth of stats. Sounds good enough for me.
Though Day at the Faire would probably sit as a dead card in your hand until you manage to complete the quest.
Rise to the Occasion
Having no cards in hand shouldn’t be a problem when you can summon 2 3/3s(perhaps with divine shield too) every turn for the rest of the game.
Oracle of Elune
Hm, not bad. You could summon out two razormane battleguards, one oracle of elune, and with the discounts from the battleguards you could also pull out a 4-drop taunt(probably the 3/5 kodo). So with 5 mana you could cheat out an additional 6 mana’s worth of minions.
You could also use this card as just a good general board-filler. If you play this and enchanted raven, you get another enchanted raven for free.
But overall this card isn’t too great as a standalone card, and you’ll have to have a 2 drop or less in hand for it to work. I’m not entirely convinced that this card has what it takes to make it. 3/5
Anetheron
This might sorta find a place in self-mill warlock, since self-mill warlock doesn’t care about milling cards so having a full hand won’t be the hardest condition to meet. Even still, this is a 8/6 with no immediate board impact, which even for 1 mana I wonder whether it deserves a card slot in the deck or not.
Call of the Grave
I think you’re mostly thinking of discovering spells, in which case you can only discover class cards with, and class cards are usually better than neutral cards.
This, on the other hand, can also discover neutral cards, which floods the discover pool with poor options.
Tiny Toys
OMG that’s true. Though it still sucks that you’ll only get 4 total charges out of your boggspine knuckles, since hoard pillager is out.
Prismatic Jewel Kit
Woah… Whenever a friendly minion loses divine shield, give ALL minions in your hand +1/+1? So after two minions lose divine shield, you’ve already got a full-on Glowstone Technician effect. Definitely don’t sleep on this card.
Overdraft
Overload Shaman with some actual good synergy cards? Now we’re talking.
Not sure if this will be enough to create a true overload-based deck though, if that’s what Blizzard’s aiming for. I think the all-out overload package needs just a bit more support to get there.
Best in Shell
Ughhh… really? Blizzard really had to print another clunky ass card?
This reminds me of Kresh. Sure, Kresh turned out to be a decent card, but the 3/9 statline was just so awkward and not fun to play with – you can’t trade into anything well, and you’re just bumping your clunky high-health minion into stuff until it dies.
Putting down 2 2/7 taunts is fine, I guess… but not fun at all.
About the viability of this card though, I dont know. A 2/7 isn’t really gonna trade well into anything by turn 6, and 2 2/7 taunts might as well be “gain 14 armor”.
Lothar
Runaway Blackwing is better? How? It’s literally 2 mana more expensive and has pretty much the same effect as this, except that this grows as it hits and kills enemy minions.
Mutanus has no immediate effect on the board, while this does.
I’m honestly not understanding why everyone’s shitting on this card so hard.
Varian, King of Stormwind
An 8 mana 7/7 rush, taunt and divine shield AND draw 3 is inarguably good. Only issue is, a lot of heavy decks don’t run all of those keywords.
Divine shield in particular is very good on Varian, but most decks don’t have any divine shield minions and it’s hard to justify tossing out some perfectly good cards to make room for divine shield minions just so you can fit Varian in.
I think Varian is sorta good, but not good enough to see much play. 2/5
Mailbox Dancer
Hmmm… interesting idea. Or you could basically have a 2 mana 3/5 if you use the coin you get from Mailbox Dancer to play your focused will. But I don’t think silence priest has enough support to work.
This + provoke = board clear + a bunch of 2/1s summoned later?
Though I’m not sure how useful the 2/1s will be, since they don’t have rush and more or less can be ignored.
