Grave Horror
Grave Horror seems okay. Rather plain, but okay. It’s a giant with taunt. Maybe it’ll see play.
Smolderthorn Lancer
Smolderthorn Lancer is good, but no so good it’ll make Dragon Warrior all by itself. When the deck comes around either in Standard or Wild, this will be a key card in it.
If anything, I’m not particularly thrilled by the design. I hope more complex dragon synergy cards like this in the future aren’t going to be an understated minion and the useful effect of a spell stabled onto each other. It’s really my only gripe with the card.
Shriek
It’s nice to see Discard Warlock be pushed into a direction that finally makes sense. Granted, Shriek won’t see play with Defile around. Hopefully, future discard support will continue to make sense.
Daring Fire-Eater
If Daring Fire-Eater sees play, it won’t be anywhere outside of Odd Mage and only if it plays the class’ Loa. Even then, I won’t put too much stock into it working out.
Granted, three mana deal four damage isn’t terrible.
Spirit of the Dragonhawk
While Spirit of the Dragonhawk is up, it will turn your Hero Power into Shooting Star, which isn’t that bad. It can be very useful against Odd Paladin or in BSM, but that usefulness probably won’t push it into constructed play.
Jan'alai, the Dragonhawk
I really like Jan’alai. It pushes Odd Mage is a decent direction that has a pay off that isn’t difficult to achieve, and can easily be played outside of that deck too. Explaining why this is probably good is rather pointless.
This only issue I have with the card, as with all of the Loa, is it requires quite a bit of set-up to make work and almost leans on the Spirit to get to that point. If it all works out, this will be amazing. If it doesn’t, it will suck.
As with all of the Loa, it will be played in deck that could make it work rather than being played in decks built around it.
Waterboy
I understand why Waterboy exists, and if there is a deck that would play it, let’s say the Mage theme for this expansion works out and ends up being really aggressive, it wouldn’t really want to play it.
In essence, this makes your hero power for a turn also summon a 2/1, which isn’t that great. Maybe it’ll end up being the least bad two drop in the bad arena card pools since it does add some value to your hero power.
Zentimo
Zentimo, like many of the other spell synergy cards Shaman has received in recent memory such as Omega Mind, will likely end up falling flat.
This and Earth Shock can silence a few minions
This and Frost Shock can be an impromptu Cone of Cold
This and Lightning Bold can be a mini Helfire.
It can also be used with spells on your own board like Earthen Might.
The ceiling is there for this card to be good, but this card’s floor as a three mana 1/3 is just so low and the combos you can pull off with it require it to you to be ahead or behind. I don’t see it. When Electra Stormsurge isn’t really seeing that much play, this won’t either.
A New Challenger...
A New Challenger is Paladin’s Release from Amber. However, the average six cost minion seems to be about a 4/5 or a 5/5 on average, and adding Divine Shield and Taunt onto it probably won’t make them worth seven mana. Plus, a lot of them, especially Paladin’s, already come with at least one of those keywords. Granted, there are standout cards that can be discovered from it like Damaged Stegotron, Hungry Etrin, and Hogger, but that’s about it.
It might see play if better stated six cost minions come around AND Paladin receives a few of them. Even then it won’t be until after the rotation happens in April.
Oondasta
Oondasta is absolutely MADE for Kathrina Hunter, but it will probably see play no where else. It almost smells like the design team had Hunter picked out for the next Hero card but also had this design and just couldn’t throw it away since Kathrina is rotating soon.
Ironhide Direhorn
Ironhide Direhorn will be an Arena all star card.
As for constructed… it’ll probably be a tad too slow. Against decks that this would generate the most value against such as Zoo Warlock and Odd Rogue, you’ll either have already won (but are still playing) or have lost by turn seven. Against decks that this would reasonably hit the board during the game, they will probably be able to deal with it before it can kill anything or have things that this can’t overkill. If the format ends up consisting of mostly midrange decks, then it could see play, but midrange as a general archetype isn’t particularly relevant when there are strong synergies between cards at a given moment.
Druid does of course have some synergies with Beasts, but I don’t see any of them being particularly relevant with this card
Bwonsamdi, the Dead
As it seems with all of the Loa, this will require quite a bit of set up to make really playable, but they will all be a massive power play the stage is set.
This and its spirit seem to want to create a Tempo Priest of some sort. I don’t quite have the imagination to see what that deck might look like though.
Generally so far, Loas appear to be the sort of cards that happen to be played in a deck that can enable them rather than build a deck around them that will enable them.
Spirit of the Dead
Spirit of the Dead is both cheap and versatile. Its three health and stealth will allow it to stick around for a bit early on and can easily add extra value to your minions later on. Combined with Priest’s Loa, this can turn and early game tempo advantage into card advantage.
The only thing that would be holding this card back is the Priest class itself. It could be used in the Cloning Gallery deck as an extender though.
Belligerent Gnome
To Warptens
Not always, and its inclusion or exclusion in the deck doesn’t have that big of an impact on the deck’s winrate. In fact, the a decklist without Voidwalker is currently the best in terms of winrate for Mecha’thun Warlock according to HSreplay.
Belligerent Gnome
Mecha’thun Warlock also already plays about ten two cost cards, five of which draw more cards. For a combo deck, drawing cards is more important than an early game taunt minion, especially when the match-up the deck is inherently optimized against, control, doesn’t care about a 2/4 with taunt.
Belligerent Gnome
Vulgar Homunculus isn’t seeing play in Control Warlock because it’s a demon, and getting Voidlords off of Bloodreaver is much better.
Belligerent Gnome
Belligerent Gnome is a great anti-aggro card that aggressive decks would want to also play because it is a lot of stats for two. It reminds me a lot of Wyrmrest Agent. Granted, that’s not a difficult comparison to make.
However, the only turns it would really make a difference would be turns two and three, which happen to be turns in which your opponent could quite easily not have two or more minions on board. Zoo Warlock and Odd Paladin may almost always get to that point, but other like Odd Rogue might not. It is also probably rather meta dependent. If aggressive decks are not prevalent, this will see little if any play.
Heavy Metal!
Well, Control Warriors can get to eight or more armor somewhat easily. Granted, that deck doesn’t really need minions to play with. Either way, that’s the only deck I can see this card being played in. I can still see this seeing play though but only after Gather Your Party and Recruit Warrior generally leave Standard.
Well, Arcane Giant never really saw play in Priest when Lyra was the class’ all star card. Why would it now with a much larger card pool?
Sure, the taunt might come in handy against aggressive decks, but in those match-ups it’ll most often be dropped when it’s too late or when you’ve already stabilized and will probably win.
