Carrion Studies
This has a high chance of providing Hunter with a good card while making something like Bloated Python come down early if played on 1. Solid card for a variety of Hunter decks, 4 Stars.
Power Word: Feast
Another strong buff for Tempo Priest!
Also works well with Sethekk Veilweaver.
Can create some insane trades in the midgame!
I think it goes into Tempo Priest and for the slow archetypes it depends on the Meta. Galakrond Priest can make use of it to take care for something like Battlefiend. Highlander needs 30 unique cards and has a strong midgame. Also, this is great to discover from Renew! 4 Stars for an overall strong card.
Tour Guide
Really strong card for aggressive archetypes!
Zoolock can use it as (slightly worse) Kobold Librarian
Paladins got Alleycat
Mage has Elven Archer, but the Battlecry can also be cast next turn.
This goes great into every tempo mana curve and will probably fill a variety of decks. Solid 4 Star card!
Raise Dead
Can be useful for reload on Highlander Priest and other slow Priest Archetypes.
But it really shines in Tempo Priest! They always run out of stuff to play and this is great to prevent it! This can easily give you a new board that is good enough to make the final push!
If Tempo Priest works, this card is one of the biggest reasons! Therefor 5 Stars!
Warlock defenetly suffers from the “Deal 3 Damage to your Hero”. While this can be strong in Zoo, you risk dying from your own cards, especially in the Aggro Matchups. The question is not “Do I have space for it?” or “Is it strong enough?”, the question is “Do I have to much stuff that kills me?”
Quest Warlock might use it for reload aswell. More Mo’arg and Crazed Netherwing is always nice. Can even add Zephrys!
But overall, Warlock might have a tough time to find use for it, unlike Priest.
Robes of Protection
The fact it’s neutral frightens me…
Decks that can frequently play strong minions on curve (Embiggen Druid for example) can make great use of this.
Example: You have a 3/4 and a 4/5 on board. You play this on Turn 5 with a 2/3.
Targeted Removal doesnt work. AoE is too expensive. Well, Mage just lost.
But this is the perfect scenario. There is Rush, there is Taunt, there is Battlecry, ectr. The “elusive” effect is not as good as it used to be.
The fact it protects itself is very annoying though.
This is another card that rises and falls with the Meta, but I think there will always be a deck to beat this, so I rate it 3 Stars. With 2/4 most aggro deck cant afford something that MIGHT protect their board. Maybe some midrange decks fill their list with this.
Demonic Studies
Warlock demons are pretty meh, unfortunatly. I think most decks dont really need it and with the chance to end up with Felhound/Pit Lord/Desk Imp, this is going to be cut in the majority of decklists. 2 Stars for now, when Demons get better, this can rise up to 4 Stars. Similar to the Spell Damage Study from Shamage.
Mindrender Illucia
I am proud to see my favorite Boss from WoW get a card that abseloutly fits her. Illucia makes people suffer. There is no way to stop it…it ruins your whole gameplan…I LOVE IT! I cant wait to play her. She is my favorite card from this expansion!
Some examples:
So you play Exodia? Would be a shame if you had no Antoidas, huh?
Nice Overgrowth. You mind if I play ramp Priest?
Looks like you took care of my earlygame minions…doesnt matter…I’LL USE YOURS!
Nice Imps! Can I borrow your Mortal Coils?
No Penance? Soul Shear can get the Job done!
Ok, let’s get serious. Aside from being the Ultimate Combo Breaker…nobody can tell how strong this card it. Tempo Priest will use it for sure. Control Priest depends on the Meta. If you can give an Aggro opponent a bunch of cards they cant play while you use up their hand, it is great. If there are a bunch of midrange decks, like Embiggen Druid, this might end up taking one of their minions while they use up a removal and Illucia did like…nothing. If Rogue bothers Priest, just mill them. If Hunter bothers Priest, this wont help. If Paladin is Top Tier, she eats their Librams. If Warrior is Top Tier, she can take their weapons, but only if she is there when you need her.
Honestly, nobody can tell how she goes. But I think there WILL be a Meta where she is the Ultimate Card and I rate her bravly 5 Stars! (Also because I love her so much :D)
Draconic Studies
Great in Highlander Priest! And maybe Dragon Priest replaces Galakrond Priest (aka, you run Galakrond, but no Invokes and Dragons instead) now! Anyway, it is super strong. Get your Dragons of early and add more to your hand…what more can you ask for? 5 Stars for something that will be in every Priest deck.
Plagued Protodrake
Muckmorpher, Duel, Boom Reaver, Overgrowth, Vectus…this has an endless list of synergies.
It is a Dragon. It has a massive Deathrattle.
If a class can make use of these advantages, they run this card. While most of these decks end up being, well, terrible, this has 5 expansions to find ONE class that can make use of it. And it WILL find this class. And, by the way, it is a great Discovery for Explorers and Draconic Lackey.
With all of the flexibility and the great deathrattle, this is 4 Stars to me. Perhaps, at some point it might even end up at 5 Stars…
Crimson Hothead
If you run dragons in highlander, you run this as well. Also really nice to get this from Draconic Lackey and Explorers! 4 Stars for being a dragon that might not be in every list, but a Top-Tier Discovery and since it’s neutral it should make a few appreances in high Tier deck lists.
Desk Imp
Cute, but that’s about it. Without a “Give your Demons +2/+2” or similar effects, this is just as good (or bad) as Wisp.
Lake Thresher
A Hunter/Druid dual class card disguised as neutral 😀
With Shan’do Wildclaw, Embiggen, Scrap Shot, ectr. this works really well in Midrange decks. It is mostly a deck filler and not as strong as Teacher’s Pet for example, but it should make it’s way into useful decks. 3 Stars.
Judicious Junior
Without Rush, Taunt or just anything, this is a little bit too passive if you ask me. 6 Mana isnt excactly cheap, 4 Attack doesnt work in Duel Paladin…this will struggle to find a place in decks. While it is great in Arena, I dont see potential for this is strong constructed decks, so it stays at 2 stars.
Twilight Runner
Great for Embiggen and Big Druid! Also works well with Guardian Animals! If Druid can get a good midrange deck going, like they did in Descent of Dragons, this is a major part of it.
And since it fills the deck extremly well in other minion-based druid decks, 5 stars for this one!
Wave of Apathy
FInally a Dual Class Card for Priest that actually works with Priest! Cabal Acolyte and Shadow Madess approve! Shutting down your opponents board for just 1 Mana is also very useful, so I’d expect this in mutliple Priest decks.
Paladin on the other hand can’t follow up all that well, although it works nice with Libram of Justice. I think it depends on the Meta whether this or, for example, Blessing of Authority makes the cut.
However, it is flexible and should see play in control-oriented Archetypes. 4 Stars.
Commencement
With Galakrond Priest making Elysiana Control Warrior pretty useless, this might help to fill the gap with a spell-oriented Big Warrior.
Not much to say about this, if Duel Pally and Big Warri become a thing, this is great, if not, this sucks. 3 Stars for now, but I hope this rises up at some point!
Athletic Studies
Rush in Warrior has always been very strong. This is one of these cards that just feels good to play in any midrange or control deck!
Blessing of Authority
Paladin usually has a minion on board and if not, they can summon one with their Hero Power. There are tons of good targets for this, so as long as Silence is not prominent in the Meta, this should be played.
However, I won’t rate it 5 Stars because Paladin is already good at building big minions and currenty lacks strong early game control, so this might be cut if the Meta demands it. Therefor, 4 Stars.
Cutting Class
Reminds me of Aeroponics… For Rogue, this is probably not very attactive. They have enough card draw on more efficent cards. For Warrior on the other hand, it is at least Arcane Intellect on a class with meh draw potential, so I wouldnt be suprised to see it in faster and midrange archetypes.
Staple in Shan’do Wildclaw Beast Hunter.
Works well with Scarvenger’s Ingenuity and Scrap Shot (which now has Slate to be a really good card!) in Highlander.
Is a strong 1-Drop for Face Hunter (also Ingenuity here!).
Prepare to see this hyper-cute face in all the Hunter Decks! 5 Stars!
