Rastakhan's Rumble Quest Hunter: The Past and Future of the Archetype
Even *with* charge it’s iffy – I mucked around with Quest Hunter for a while, trying to find a way to get it to work… best result I had was (weirdly) with Hemet, Jungle Hunter and Tundra Rhino.
You need to complete the quest, play Hemet **then** Carnassa next turn… gets rid of all the 1 costs in your deck meaning you’re pretty much guaranteed to pull the Rhino next turn if you haven’t already and your deck will have basically nothing but Brood cards. Rhino + Broods gives a lot of charge damage but it’s rarely enough; if the Broods had charge naturally it would up the maximum damage in a turn from 17 to 21 (as you’d not play the Rhino) – doubt that would be enough given you’ll probably still need to eat through Taunts.
The problem with this is it relies on pulling Hemet (a one-of) in a class with pretty poor card draw and you’ve got a tonne of one-drops to churn through… *plus* you’re not playing Carnassa until T7 which has far less impact than on T5.
If there’s any hope for Quest Hunter, I suspect it lies with Halazzi, the Lynx as that means you can drastically reduce the number of 1-drops in the deck.
Gurubashi Offering
Oooh yeah – how’d I miss that? … that makes it considerably worse ๐
Gurubashi Offering
It’s also a cheap combo-activator, can be buffed with Cold Blood and, at a pinch, triggered twice with Necrium Vial (for 16 armour instantly plus another 8 on death) … you might be onto something.
Wartbringer
The upside is *way* too situational – Air Elemental rarely gets played and that’s a far better 2/1 for 1 mana.
Waterboy
This could possibly find a slot in some kind of Face Hunter … just not Odd Face Hunter – but as that’s pretty much the defacto Face Hunter at the moment, this seems pretty useless.
Bwonsamdi, the Dead
Ideally you’d even want the Star Aligners killed off with Spirit of the Dead on the board so you can pull 1-cost copies of them when you drop Bwonsamdi… and Priest could have possibly generated extra Aligner copies as well.
It’s a long shot but it’s theoretically possible you could drop Bwonsamdi and 3 Star Aligners (or Velen and 2 Star Aligners) in a turn… it’s a good job Velen (being 7/7 as well) only doubles hero power and spells not *all* effects!
Ticket Scalper
Possibly an even better option yeah, I’d forgotten Rocket Boots existed ๐
… could possibly also work with with The Boomship – but that would be a completely different deck.
Ticket Scalper
I could see this in some kind of Pirate Warrior maybe… a deck that has a couple of problems, 1: taunt minions 2: no way to rebuild if your opponent survives the initial rush.
This allows you to (potentially) remove a taunt minion and draw 2 cards… or make your opponent think twice about playing Saronite Chain Gang before removing the Scalper. It’s also another high priority removal target – one that can immediately follow up Frothing Berserker.
… and it almost might make it worth putting a single Charge spell into the deck – maybe.
Depending on how the meta shapes up, there could be a niche for this.
Belligerent Gnome
“most notably Odd Rogues and their turn 2 knives” – would put the kibosh on the alternative T2 where they Cold Blood a Firefly though.
“AND this card is dramatically worse than Keleseth.” – to be fair, in a tempo-based deck EVERYTHING is worse than Keleseth on T2; it’s a game-winning card if you drop it early.
Heavy Metal!
… but even if you manage to have 8 armour by turn 8 allowing you to buff to 10 (remember, you can’t use this in a Baku deck) – half the 10-cost cards are worse than the Lich King anyway, so you’d be better off just putting the Lich King in your deck.
Ideally you want to play this *on* turn 6 with at least 8 armour – which just seems too slow and too situational.
Heavy Metal!
Even at decent amounts of armour, e.g. 6+ so you’re at least breaking even on the mana cost, you can get some pretty terrible results from this (assuming random means you can get cards from any class):
6 armour:
Possessed Lackey (2/2)
Meteorologist (3/3)
Glowstone Technician (3/4)
7 armour:
Azalina Soulthief (3/3)
Giggling Inventor (2/1)
Lynessa Sunsorrow (1/1)
8 armour:
Hir’eek the bat (1/1)
9 armour:
Dragonhatcher (2/4) – since you’re unlikely to have any dragons it’s pretty terrible
So you can’t play this before turn 6 and you ideally want at least 8 armour and it gets, relatively, slightly worse each turn; getting a 8+ cost random minion on turn 6 could be great – getting a 8+ cost random minion on turn 8 and having 2 mana left over… well, you could have just put a *good* 8-cost minion in and avoided the random factor.
Unless there’s a big ol’ support package for this that’s yet to be revealed… it’s looking pretty poor.
What Would it Take for Hand Buff and Deck Buff to Succeed in Rastakhan's Rumble?
Wouldn’t Echoing Ooze also qualify as a target in Wild now (since you mentioned Doppelgangster)? … but the ooze has the added benefit that you can still buff it the turn you play it; Ooze > Mark of the Wild was a decent T4 play.
Savage Striker
I don’t think it’s terrible – dropping a 2/3 on turn 2 is fine. The extra ability just makes this a less bad top-deck in the later game (e.g. after you’ve played Malfurion the Pestilent)… you’re not likely to put this into a deck for the ability but you might just for a 2 mana 2/3 at a push.
Whether it’ll see any play at all (there might be a niche for it) will probably depend on whether there’s a Druid archetype that needs a 2-drop minion other than Dendrologist (Druid of the Swarm and Tortollan Forager both rotate out in the 1st expansion of 2019)… since that slot competes with Wild Growth and Wrath, I’ll not hold my breath.
Rain of Toads
Yes it dodges silence and single target removal but you’re going to hate Dragon’s Fury, Flamestrike, Spreading Plague, Vanish and Psychic Scream; possibly Twisting Nether unless you drop this on curve.
Having said that though – Shaman has Bloodlust and can potentially make more use of minion generation than any other class bar maybe Paladin.
Jonnychill's Wild Jade Cube Rogue
Oddly I’ve been trying something similar recently – but more control-oriented, so yes it has Valeera and N’Zoth but also Sylvanas who can occasionally be MvP (especially with Necrium Vial)…
Funny thing though – you very rarely get to use N’Zoth as you’ve normally flattened your opponent with Jolly Green Giants long before. Best thing is beating Jade Druids with much bigger Jades than they’ve managed to amass ๐
The Five Ladies
I don’t care whether this deck actually works or not; have +1 for the flavour ๐
Only cards I don’t have are the Weaponised Pinatas – and I’m not sure they’re worth crafting.
Odd Rogue Boomsday Post-Nerf (Sjow)
It’s primarily for the mirror matches, 1/3 can’t be instantly removed by your opponent’s upgraded weapon; I’ve seen Mech-a-roo used for the same thing too.
Upcoming Boomsday Meta Nerfs: Giggling Inventor, Mana Wyrm, and Aviana
This frees up quite a few slots in Odd Rogue; I suspect it won’t be running 2x GI + 2x Blood Knight any more … might be worth keeping 1 Blood Knight but GI was a fairly low tempo play for an aggro deck anyway; it’s mainly played to protect things like the Thug or Fledgling or in prep for a Fungalmancer – at 7 mana I’m not sure it’s worthwhile (at least not in Odd Rogue).
Cobalt Scalebane, Tar Creeper or possibly Marsh Drake are options I guess.
The T1 Mana Wyrm Drop has been deciding games since forever so I can see the logic… increasing the mana cost prevents the coin synergy on T1- but it makes the card a tempo drop initially, that’s particularly harsh for a card that you’re generally going to want to run *in a tempo deck.* – maybe just reducing the health to 2 wouldn’t have been enough, maybe it would…
As for Aviana/Kun – oh well, it was fun while it lasted ๐
Interestingly if you discard a powered up Soulstone – the one you get back remains powered up. I had a lucky infinite heal/damage/big monster loop when I the only things in my discard pool were Soulwarden, a charged (7 damage/heal) Soulstone and The Coin… not exactly something you’re going to rely on, but it is pretty funny.
(the game has decided that I’ll be using Warlock a lot this season – got every single Warlock card)
