Gadgetzan Ferryman
This would be a fairly pointless card anyway because of Youthful Brewmaster… but in Rogue, when there’s Shadowstep?
Devolve
If I play this card I can guarantee it’ll convert the opponents Justicar Trueheart into an Earth Elemental ๐
Jinyu Waterspeaker
Ummmm Healing Wave? Granted it never sees play so it’s easy to forget about ๐
Call in the Finishers
In a weird kind of way I suspect it’s actually too slow for an Everyfin is Awesome deck; you’ve either basically won or lost by turn 7 and playing this on turn 4 is just asking for one of the many “deal 1 damage to all enemy minions” cards available at that mana cost – every class except Priest (which would require an Auchenai/CoH combo) has a counter at 4 mana or less so you’re unlikely to use this card unless you can combo with Everyfin (or you’ve got a Warleader on the board).
… and I’ve had too many bang-head-on-desk moments as a Priest with Auchenai but not CoH in my hand (or vice versa) to rely on getting the Everyfin/Finishers combo on turn 7.
Jade Idol
Wrath, Nourish, Mark of Y’Shaarj and maybe, at a pinch in a Golem/Minion focused deck, Lunar Visions… Druid isn’t terrible for card draw on the class cards alone.
Then bear in mind you’ve got Fandral in there as well and all the buff cards that make Token Druid a “thing”. Jade Golems _could_ be the new Tokens as it’s all about the big swing from having nothing on the board to it being full of big minions in very short order… and they could be pretty big minions if they’re Jade Golems.
A Fandral/Cenarius/Jade Golem Token deck *might* work.
TOTEM SHAMAN Spell Dmg
I’ve been playing around with something not a million miles away from this lately … one thing I’ll add; against Priest at the moment, mulligan for a Hex – use it on that turn 3 Injured Blademaster to completely screw their resurrection.
Upcoming Nerfs to Shaman, Warrior, Hunter, Abusive Sergeant & Yogg-Saron, Hope's End! - September 2016
No more 30+ damage OTK Worgen/Faceless Warrior … Wooohooo! I’ll get the party poppers, who’s got cake?
These nerfs all seem pretty solid to me; they almost all target things that are basically just frustrating to play against. Tuskarr Totemic into Totem Golem, Mana Tide Totem or even Flamewreathed Totem is just BS.
30+ damage to face from Raging Worgen + buffs + charge + Faceless Manipulator – you’ve got no chance to respond and your best option is to kill the Warrior before turn 10; tricky with things like Pyromancer/Commanding Shout and Execute ensuring you’re always on the back-foot minion-wise. Still, at least the Warrior has to build their entire deck around that strategy – you know exactly what’s coming.
Yogg on the other hand can just be dropped into any strong, spell-heavy deck to add an additional, instant win condition at the cost of a single card slot. OK sometimes he’s going to kill you but if you’re at that state anyway…
Everything else just seems fair – 8 Mana for Call of the Wild *was* too cheap. 2/1 on Abusive Sergeant meant he was a reasonable 1 drop even if you had nothing to target with the Battlecry.
Hearthstone Patch 6.1.0 - Welcome Bundle, New Priest Hero: Tyrande Whisperwind!
All I got was dust…
Krush as the guaranteed legendary, which I already had and nothing from the packs above rare – all of which I already had. I’ve still never packed a Questing Adventurer (rare) and there are plenty of epics and legendaries from the classic set I still need.
Ho Hum.
New Hearthstone Welcome Bundle: 10 Classic Hearthstone Packs, 1 Random Legendary Card ($4.99 USD)
I’m currently missing both Tyrion and Grommash so I might give it a shot…
Free Medivh! Boss Guide & Information - One Night in Karazhan
I was struggling with this for hours until I found this guy:
http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/626038-heroic-free-medivh-no-epic-and-legendary
Take his alternative hint though and go for an OTK C’Thun it works WAY better; you need a chunky C’Thun (36+ which is quite possible with this deck) and Brann Bronzebeard in your hand – then on the turn when you kill Nazra, drop Emperor Thaurissan because at that point you get 2 turns in a row; 1 to kill Nazra then you go first against Malchezaar (though you can’t do anything). This brings C’Thun down to 8 and Brann down to 1.
Malchezaar will probably Twisting Nether and tap his hero power giving him 30 health, 30 armour and 2x 6/6 Abyssals – so your C’Thun needs to deal 72 damage… and since you’ve just dropped Brann on the board that’s not a problem!
Eleven New Cards Releasing in The Spire (Wing 4) - One Night in Karazhan
I’ve been tinkering with a Control Mage kind of deck recently with things like Firelands Portal, Arcane Golem and Effigy; blow up your opponents creatures whilst gaining board control with your own – Firelands Portal is expensive but a good fit.
Firelands Portal with Medivh (well Atiesh) is something I *have* to try.
Medivh, the Guardian
I suspect this was designed to get extra value out of the new Portal spells, an alternative to Summoning Stone in decks which aren’t so spell focussed:
Firelands Portal: 7 mana for 5 damage, summon a 5 cost creature isn’t spectacular in constructed play; 7 mana for 5 damage a 5 cost creature AND a 7 cost creature however is a lot more attractive.
Moonglade Portal: 6 mana, restore 6 health and summon 2x 6 cost minions.
Ironforge Portal: 5 mana, gain 4 armour, summon a 4 cost minion and a 5 cost minion.
Silvermoon and Maelstrom Portals get a little extra use if you draw them late game but I don’t think they’re worth attempting to build a deck around.
The Curator
This works pretty well … and with Steward of Darkshire you can actually get some use out of Onyxia. I’ve a single dropped Mukla’s Champion in as well, which happens to be a beast.
Best combo I’ve pulled was having the Steward on the board (only minion after a board clear) which survived until my turn, then into Onyxia to give me an 8/8 a 3/3 and 5x 1/1 with divine shield. Instant board control followed up with Mukla’s Champion next turn. gg wp.
Murlocs : Murloc Knight, Murloc War-Leader, Bluegill Warrior and a single Vilefin Inquisitor.
Beast: Stampeding Kodo, Mukla’s Champion
Dragons: Faerie Dragon (very useful early on), Azure Drake, Onyxia
Oh and having Murloc Knight and Mukla’s Champion on the board at the same time is ridiculous… until the inevitable board clear anyway ๐
Tavern Brawl - Nefarian Rises!
^ Pretty much this – I won on the first attempt; I was the Priest and that’s what I did. That and kept both of us healed.
The Druid also gets Vitality Totem and the Priest gets Thoughtsteal and Mind Vision so you can nab yourself a copy of the Vitality Totem (if you’re lucky) and pair it up with Raid Healer to restore 4 health to both heroes each turn (as long as the cards are in play).
Trump's Protect the King! Taunt Warrior (August 2016, Season 29)
I’ve been tinkering with a similar idea … it can actually work. Unfortunately I don’t have Varian or Hogger to try this version out ๐ I had to sort of hybrid-ise with Grim Patron.
Hearthstone Classic Card Set - Which Cards Could Still Be Nerfed?
Nice article ๐
YAY on more mid-range card-draw neutrals … it feels weird putting an Azure Drake into a deck with like 2 direct damage spells just for the body and card draw. Yes, PW:S is an amazing card – but there aren’t a vast number of amazing early drop minions for Priest to abuse horribly with it (Injured Blademaster or maybe Kvaldir), most early game Priest cards have pretty poor attack values; it would be horrendous if it was a Rogue card.
Most of the rest of the cards are, I feel, strong because of the way Hearthstone plays. The game favours aggressive play and weenie board floods far more than say MtG; it’s the fact that the attacker chooses the targets rather than the defender choosing blockers that makes the game play that much faster. Anything that boosts aggressive play has a stronger impact than something that boosts control or combo games; boost an aggro deck and the game can be over by turn 4 or 5, long before a more measured deck will have any chance to gain momentum (which is kinda the point); e.g. Entomb is an amazing card really but it has had less impact on the game than Darkshire Councilman simply because Zoo.
That’s the real issue with Abusive Sergeant, Divine Favor, Savage Roar, Battle Rage and Fiery War Axe – all of them greatly benefit aggressive play either as cheap attack boosts or big card draws; offsetting the main weaknesses of aggro in a CCG that already plays more aggressively. So I agree with everything you said with regards to those cards ๐ Wouldn’t touch FWA though – it is sort of *the* defining Warrior class card.
However … and a I’m little biased here as I’ve been playing a lot with my take on a Malygos Miracle Rogue lately but Rogue’s kinda *need* that massive tempo burst you get from preparation. You’re often using your daggers early on for removal of low-health minions – so you’re trading health to be able to control the board long enough to do a huge mid-game swing, get a decent Edwin out or do some serious deck thinning to get your finishers in place. If it goes wrong, you’ll be too close to dead for the mid-game swing to even really matter.
Preparation could take the increased cost now while we’ve still got Thaurissan, Tomb Pillager and (less commonly) Cutpurse to lower card cost for the big tempo burst (plus the Coin and Preparation are also great combo activators) but when Blackrock Mountain and League of Explorers drop out of rotation (next year?)… I also don’t see it as necessary when compared with Innervate. You need a lot more ducks in a row to get the *great* spell-based tempo burst than you do to drop Druid of the Claw on the board on turn 2 or 3.
… and finally, yes, I agree some cards should be moved into Standard – Tunnel Trogg is the one that comes immediately to mind; Mage, Priest and Warlock all have good 1/3, 1 cost cards – Tunnel Trogg just makes sense to me as a Mana Wyrm equivalent. The same argument could be made for Vilefin Inquisitor.
Cloaked Huntress
Secret Hunter seems to be becoming a thing lately – and I really don’t like it :\
Purify
I guess you could use it with Corrupted Healbot (if you’ve not got Soulpriest / Embrace to hand), The Beast or Moat Lurker… but yeah; can’t see it getting real-world usage.
95% chance it’ll become a Corrupted Seer when I play it ๐
