Unwilling Sacrifice
Would the spell fully resolve before Deathrattles are taken into account – or does Deathrattle work like an interrupt?
Say the opponent has a load of minions including Sylvanus – and you play Sylvanus and Sacrifice her.
If the spell fully resolves before the Deathrattles and destroys your opponent’s Sylvanus then both Sylvanus’s should die, your opponent’s Sylvanus should trigger her Deathrattle first (as she was played before yours) but there would be nothing for her to steal – your Sylvanus’s Deathrattle would then steal an opponent’s minion.
However, if Deathrattle works like an interrupt, your Sylvanus would die and trigger her Deathrattle – potentially stealing your opponent’s Sylvanus before she could be destroyed…
Phantom Freebooter
Might be more viable for a new take on Water Rogue rather than Pirate Warrior I think… if only it gained attributes from the weapon as well; Envenom Weapon or Leeching Poison for instance.
Righteous Protector
This is about the most Paladin card possible…
AIUI class-specific cards can have a little extra value over their neutral counterparts – anyone can use Argent Squire but Pally gets one with Taunt. Whether it’s amazing or not – this seems to be just about perfect card design.
Personally I suspect it’s going to be a tricky in any Pally deck with minion buffs (which is like all of them); if dropped on turn 1 it’s just awkward, on turn 2 it could be either 4/1 or 2/3, on turn 5 it’s potentially 5/5 – it’s going to be flexible and unlike Argent Squire your minions can’t just walk around it.
Gnomeferatu
“Many people are assuming that the worst case will happen most of the time this is played against them.” … no – most of the time it’s played it’ll just be an annoyance and against most aggro decks not even that since they rarely get through more than half their cards anyway. So it’ll be pretty ‘meh’ on the Standard ladder.
However, when playing against combo or, to a lesser extent, legendary-heavy decks (like Paladin) it’s going to be horrible.
Take a (wild) Malygos Miracle Rogue for instance; worst case scenario (for the Warlock) is that he burns Kezan Mystic – an utterly dead card for the Rogue in that match up. Not really that big a deal for either player since Miracle has a tonne of card draw anyway.
Best case scenario is that he burns Malygos – which basically wins the game.
There’s an equal chance of either outcome (the Rogue isn’t going to tech 2 Mystics) but one has little effect on the state of the game and the other wins it.
Essentially this is another random effect that punishes constructed decks that rely on combos and synergy – still, Warlock is in such bad shape at the moment that random luck is probably their main win condition.

Dirty Rat is an absolute tw** of a card – but it’s an absolute tw** of a card you have to think about (a bit) to get the best out of it. If your opponent is low on cards in their hand and they’ve played a lot of Deathrattle, when do you drop the Rat hoping to pull N’Zoth and trash the battlecry? Too soon and you might miss – hold on too long and you’ll miss your chance.
Gnomferatu on the other hand is just a no-brainer; you’re just going to drop it. Worst case scenario you thin your opponent’s deck by 1 card at the cost of something that wasn’t entirely useful in the current match-up… best case scenario you trash one of the key Legendaries that’s part of the win condition the deck is built around; Malygos, Antonidus, N’Zoth, C’Thun… potentially making this an automatic win, rng willing – for 2 mana. ๐
Still – I like the name, the artwork and look forward to seeing a new Chromie skin in Heroes of the Storm ๐
Corpsetaker
Might be usable in a Wild Shaman Mech deck – though it scuppers the Mech synergy. You’d get Taunt and Divine shield from Annoy-o-Tron and Windfury from the Whirling Zap-o-Matic.
That’s pretty conditional for what effectively amounts to maybe +2 value – and that’s only for the first Corpsetaker (when it’s quite likely you’d still have copies of both the Annoy-o-Tron and Zap-o-Matic in your deck)… for a second? That’s likely to have much less value. Ok – you could chuck in Al’Akir as well but still…
I don’t actually think this is as good as Vicious Fledgling, the gift that keeps on giving.
Bonemare
+3 value? That’s comparable to Houndmaster without the beast restriction… on a neutral common card.
Hell, in Quest Druid (or Aviana / Kun in Wild) you could slap this onto Tyrantus for a 16/16 Taunt creature that can’t be the target of spells or hero powers… THEN you could drop a Menagerie Warden so you’ve got 2 of the damned things! GGWP O-o
Animated Berserker
Not really – with Berserker cards this could be fairly aggressive; you could theoretically go lethal on turn 5 with the right draw; your opponent _could_ be down to 5 health on turn 4… assuming they’re AFK ๐
Animated Berserker
This doesn’t really stack up that well when compared to Inner Rage, Whirlwind or Cruel Taskmaster as an Enrage enabler – and I’m pretty sure it won’t spawn infinite Patrons (in Wild) as you only “play” the first one. There’s only 1 Enrage card with Charge (Grommash) that would benefit (though worse than with Inner Rage), as you’d normally want to activate a minion’s rage only when they can attack – i.e. *after* summoning sickness has worn off.
Neither is it as good as Whirlwind or Ravaging Ghoul for Armoursmith/Frothing Berserker/Battle Rage synergy.
However it is a 1/3 body that triggers as long as it’s alive, so it _could_ open up an extremely aggressive board right from the get go (without having Pirates that can be Golakka’d):
T1: Animated Berserker
T2: Amani Berserker
T3: Raging Worgen / Frothing Berserker/ Tauren Warrior
T4: Bloodhoof Brave / Aberrant Berserker
If the Animated Berserker isn’t nuked on turn 2 it could help develop quite a nasty board.
Abominable Bowman
Presumably it can also resurrect Zombeasts (from Deathstalker Rexxar build-a-beast hero power)?
Hadronox
Ignoring this giant Limbo-spid could actually be a bad idea … it’s a Druid card and a Beast. That means the turn after it hits the board, if ignored, the Druid can drop Mark of the Wild (to 5/9 Taunt) and Menagerie Warden.
That could easily be a T7 > T8 move with Innervate.
… however, playing it that early limits the number of Taunt creatures already in your graveyard – the later it’s played the stronger it becomes.
I can’t really think of a good Druid archetype to slot this into right now though – it’s really slow. Might be worth a shot with Jungle Giants or in Wild with the Aviana > Kun combo… maybe.
Plague Scientist
Thinking about it, the things you really want to remove start appearing around turn 3 – Tar Creeper for instance – so it might almost be worth holding onto that Swashburglar (with Patches in the deck) until turn 4 and use it as the combo activator.
Swashburglar (pulls Patches) > Plague Scientist (makes Patches poisonous) > bye bye Tar Creeper
– and you’ve got an extra 2/3 and a 1/1 on the board and copied a card from your opponents class; that’s a pretty good exchange.
… but then again, on turn 4 you can (counterfeit) coin into Vilespine Slayer. Of course you *could* then use a Plague Scientist next turn to make that Slayer poisonous ๐
I think it’s got possibilities in Tempo Rogue – or even a slower Quest Rogue (bounce the Scientist for repeated poisonings) – Miracle… I’m not so sure.
Mountainfire Armor
Looks like a strong card, reasonable stat-line for the mana cost, Deathrattle gives a big ol’ chunk of armour as long as your opponent is the one to kill it (hello Shield Slam) and being Deathrattle, N’Zoth could resurrect it.
The only downside I can think of is that it’s immediately countered by Tar Creeper.
Professor Putricide
This could be quite strong as it’s likely to give your Eaglehorn Bow at least +1 durability; so that’s an extra 3 “free” damage (barring weapon removal).
On the coin you could:
Turn 2: coin > Eaglehorn Bow
Turn 3: Cloaked Huntress
Turn 4: Prof. Putricide > secret dump
… and if you *do* manage to curve into him on turn 4 from a cloaked hunter and drop a Freezing Trap he might not be that easy to remove either, without dropping a spell on his head… and _that_ could trigger Cat Trick (and +1 dur. on the bow).
I suspect Acidic Swamp and Gluttonous Oozes are going to be tech cards of choice vs Hunter once this hits.
Plague Scientist
I’m not sure on this when it comes to constructed… on one hand Rogues decks often have to be totally streamlined and focused, you might get an Eater of Secrets teched into a (Malygos) Miracle Rogue deck *maybe* but that would generally be it, everything else would be focused on the theme of the deck and I can’t quite see where this slots in. Especially since it’s in direct competition for a slot with S:17 Agent.
On the other hand, it’s potentially a budget Vilespine Slayer when combined with a disposable minion (Swashburglar, Jade Swarmer or Patches the Pirate) – except it won’t remove Divine Shield minions like Tol’vir Shaper or Tirion Fordring.
I could be waaaay off, of course, I didn’t think Sherazin Corpse flower would see anywhere near as much play as it has.
Death Knight Hero Card Guide & Information - Knights of the Frozen Throne
Well they could always adapt the software – they built it afterall (not saying it would be quick or easy but it would be possible)…
… but can you imagine Stone Tusk Boar + Giant Sandworm? That’s probably a board clear and 9 face damage all at once ๐
The Hearthstone Frost Festival is Live!
Hmmm – I just completed an Arena run last night; decided I still don’t really enjoy it and I’m still really bad at it (I’ve done 7 runs and average 1.5 wins per run)… thought I was going to do a bit better last time; won the first 2… lost the next 3.
Oh well – I suppose 3 free runs will get me some extra practice… but like Marvin the paranoid android, I won’t enjoy it ๐
Maybe, just maybe, it’s NOT intended for the Miracle archetype…
