Time Out!
You seem to have missed the point of the card completely. No, it’s not remotely comparable to Rebuke or Shield Block, I don’t even know where you’re coming from there. This is two extra turns for an OTK Paladin. You’ve written an essay that brings up weapon swing damage but doesn’t even touch the blindingly obvious, extremely powerful reason for this card to be played.
Shirvallah, the Tiger
Last time I checked, Egg Paladin was like tier 3, if that’s changed recently then I GUESS you could make the argument, although it doesn’t run anywhere near enough spells to use this. As for Even Paladin…you mind taking a look at the mana cost of this card?
Immortal Prelate
Actually, I just checked and I’m mistaken, Rumble comes out in December which means we’ll have at least one expansion where you can play this with some pretty insane enchantments. Will that necessarily be insanely powerful? Not totally sure, but will definitely be trying it.
Immortal Prelate
Ohhhhhh my god, Control Paladin is my favourite archetype of all time and this is the kind of card that makes me drool…or it would be, if Spikeridged Steed, Lynessa, Val’ Anyr, Potion of Heroism, Dinosize, Desperate Stand, The Last Kaleidosaur, etc weren’t all about to rotate out. As is, we’re gonna need to see some pretty impressive cards to make this do anything powerful, although it IS pretty cool that Paladin is finally getting some fatigue recursion.
Spirit of the Shark
This will be in every deck that can even remotely think about running it.
Shirvallah, the Tiger
With the current card pool? Trash, because any kind of control/midrange Paladin is trash. Considering this is the lead off card, though, it seems likely that Paladins are going to have spells pushed this expansion. Shirvallah isn’t enough incentive alone to run a spell heavy deck, but will definitely fit right in if some kind of Control Paladin DOES surface. That’s a big if, though.
Sharkfin Fan
I think you play this in exactly decks that can equip a weapon on turn 1. Even Rogue and Hunter are the obvious choices, Paladin running Light’s Justice seems reasonable as well (we’ve already got Toxicologist and with much more support it may be a decent aggro card).
Loose Specimen
Why is this Epic? Who’s going to be happy to pull an Epic and see this? Next.
Piloted Reaper
Jeeeeeeeesus, now this is the reason to play Mech decks. Realistically though, this is going to be a 2-of in every aggro deck until it leaves rotation.
Rusty Recycler
Now this…this is interesting, that’s potentially a hell of a lot of defense. Probably going to be a common discovery with Dr. Boom, not sure how often you’ll actually put it in your deck though.
Spring Rocket
The exact same as Disciple of C’Thun, which was a staple of C’Thun decks but not quite good enough to put anywhere else. This has the Mech tag, though, which might actually be pretty relevant. We’ll see, I’m frankly not sold on the whole Mech thing working out.
Crystallizer
Man, what a cool card! Decently statted, works with Warlock self-damage, Warrior and Druid armour gain, allows Paladin to get its own Spellstone up and running…love the design and seems fairly powerful, this HAS to see play somewhere.
Prismatic Lens
It MIGHT be good enough to just run 4 mana draw 2, Paladin isn’t a class that usually gets a ton of card draw and Druid, which is, regularly uses Branching Paths to draw 2. That being said, I think if you’re just looking for general card draw in Paladin, you play Crystology.
Prismatic Lens
So is this intended for Secrets? Seems like the obvious choice, but even then, what minions are Paladins SERIOUSLY hoping to cheat out? A 1-mana Tirion is obviously very good, but you don’t really build decks in standard around just solid plays. Blackwald Pixie for some kind of OTK? The issue is that Paladin is a class that kind of has to run a lot of minions, so it’s really hard to use this for a specific minion combo in the way that, say, Priest could.
Alternatively, you could run a ton of cheap mechs and Kangor’s Endless Army, which would both give you fuel and allow the army to come out quickly. Is that good enough to compete? Eh…not totally sure about that.
In any case, it’s really hard to imagine this not seeing play, it’s card draw in a class that needs it with potentially very strong synergy, but I’m having a bit of trouble figuring out exactly what to do with it right now.
The Storm Bringer
People are really down on this card, but…I’m not so sure. Shaman is getting a LOT of tools in this expansion to flood the board with tokens, and this turns those tokens into a board full of dangerous, usually fairly large minions. Yeah, a lot of Legendary minions get most of the value from their battlecry, but even if you’re turning your 1/1 Spark into a Captain Greenskin or Spiritsinger Umbra, a board full of that is a colossal upgrade. Don’t undersell the card too much, this is a powerful effect.
You don’t even really need to time it that well, though, because where this will see play is the OTK deck. It essentially means that if you’ve drawn your deck, you now win by bouncing a single Horseman rather than 3. Trying to survive during the bounces is hard, and it’s why the deck isn’t amazing right now. This will help a LOT.
