King Phaoris
I think this is a good card, but mostly because there are so few lategame threats for Control decks nowadays. Look at Warrior, they used to have The Lich King and Rotface and Yip and Grom and Ysera… now, they have The Boomship and Dimensional Ripper and The Boom Reaver to get massive threats on the board, but they don’t have any good threats to summon. Blizzard’s Big Warrior deck recipe recommends using Amani War Bears as your lategame threats… that’s just sad. The only top tier Control deck right now, Control Warrior, doesn’t even attempt to kill you with its cards, its win condition is Fatigue.
Welp, this is a legitimate late game threat for Control decks, and as such I expect it to see play. 4/5
Sahket Sapper
Decent stats with a situational ability. Pirate tag means you can combo it with Hooktusk, deathrattle gives it synergy with Necrium cards… but you’re not going to get both at the same time, a Deathrattle Pirates deck makes no sense. It’s not amazing, you’re not gonna build a deck around this gal, but it’s decent filler for decks that want pirates, and for decks that want Deathrattles. 3/5
Bloodsworn Mercenary
I’d argue Magnetic mechs have pseudo charge, Mech Paladin can unload 10, 20, even 30 damage from hand with the help of Galvanizer, Glowstone Technician and a bunch of Magnetic minions… so long as they have a mech to magnetize onto. It’s not the same as charge, but it has some similarities.
We’ve also gotten new support for old charge cards, like the Boar OTK Priest deck with Test Subject and Topsy Turvy… though that one stopped working when Radiant Elemental rotated to Wild.
Still, the last Charge minion to be printed was Chillblade Champion, back in August 2017. As to why, I think it’s because Charge is an inherently problematic mechanic. Miracle Rogue with 4-mana Leeroy required a Leeroy nerf, Unleash the Hounds OTK prompted a complete redesign of the card (used to give +1 attack and charge to all friendly beasts), Warsong Commander got nerfed 3 times, then Cubelock ended with a nerf to Possessed Lackey AND Doomguard going into the Hall of Fame.
And the thing is, when Charge wasn’t being used as a deck’s main win condition (either as an OTK or trying to win with progressive waves of charge damage, like Cubelock), the mechanic was largely ignored. Decks either had enough charge damage in their decks to kill the opponent outright, or none at all, because taking away half of your opponent’s life with Charge minions doesn’t win you the game, especially against defensive Control decks that can just heal back up.
In practice, Charge ended up being an all-or-nothing mechanic, and almost every time a Charge OTK strategy was possible, it ended up being overpowered and had to be nerfed. I can’t blame the developers for deciding that they’d rather try out a different mechanic instead.
Conjured Mirage
This is pretty miserable if played on curve, it saves you one turn worth of face damage but then just goes away and leaves you in a huge tempo hole. Later on, buying you a turn can be a huge deal, especially if you can follow this up with more stall effects like those from Freeze Mage, or a big board clear from something like Earthquake or Plague of Death. In a long game, this can help stave off fatigue.
Overall, it has potential but it’s hard to predict if it’ll see a lot of play, since it’s such a unique effect. 3/5
Bone Wraith
Proud Defender is a pretty mediocre minion. It’s fine as a 4/6 when played on curve, but anytime after that it’s just a 4 mana 2/6. What other 4 mana taunts are there… Omega Defender? Sen’jin Shieldmasta? I think Bone Wraith is better than all of them, though not by much. My rating is more indicative of how much play I expect it to see, and as the best early taunt minion, I think it’ll see plenty of use.
Mortuary Machine
Pretty great in an aggro deck, the new Fel Reaver / Bittertide Hydra. 4/5
Pharaoh Cat
Good stats, good value, and it can even enable Vendetta and turn 2 Underbelly Fence. 5/5
Bone Wraith
Reborn synergies aside, this is just a good taunt minion, better than other 4 mana neutral taunts. 4/5
Shadow of Death
Fal’dorei Strider was amazing because it gave you a 4/4 body on top of the shuffled Nerubians. This card requires more setup (need to have a good minion you want to copy on the board), and it has no immediate effect. It has potential, but it’s just so slow. 2/5
Embalming Ritual
Devs compared reborn to divine shield, it’s an ability that can be triggered once. If that analogy holds, then giving a minion reborn a second time would do nothing, just like nothing happens if you give divine shield to a minion that already has it.
Embalming Ritual
Very strong in combination with powerful deathrattle minions like Cairne, Mechanical Whelpling, Zerek, Convincing Infiltrator. At a 1 mana cost, this is 5/5
Tomb Warden
As a standalone card this is decent, but coupled with handbuffs it’s great. 4/5
Pharaoh's Blessing
Maybe you want this on Immortal Prelate, but it’s otherwise too expensive for what it does. 2/5
Titanic Lackey
Weaker than Kobold, Goblin and Ethereal lackeys. Stronger than Witchy. Roughly even with Faceless. Since it’s in the bottom half, I give it 2/5.
This will be a cornerstone of Priest Tempo decks. 5/5
