I wanted to give my 2 cents on the topic of the balance of demon hunter here.
Well, well, what happened last time demon hunter was nerfed? The meta slowed down because the main deck warping the meta around himself was reduced in overall power. It allowed other decks time (and turns) to breath. Quest warlock became a thing. Enrage warrior started to evolve to a more control oriented deck. Druid started experimenting with more late game.
In short, good things happen to Hearthstone every time demon hunter gets nerfed. Why is that?
If you take Vicious Syndicate last Meta report :
” Demon Hunter’s decline in popularity has stopped, and it’s now beginning to rise in play as everyone is becoming aware that the class is still pretty busted despite being nerfed three times.”
Also ” For now, Demon Hunter still looks as busted as it did after the day 1 nerfs, with a perfect meta score at every rank bracket.” They also say that warrior might overtake it at high legend soon.
What does that mean?
It means that demon hunter is the most popular deck AND has the best winrate, even at high legend. Yes, at every rank bracket! It means that despite being the most targeted deck, it’s still dumpstering everything trying to tech and adapt against it except warrior. Every deck is trying to get good anti demon hunter cards into their deck, and it’s not enough!!
It is fair to assume that the sheer power level of demon hunter is not letting other decks getting into viability, with all those other decks waiting to be discovered and potentially being a much better hearthstone experience. Who knows? Have you tried pure paladin on ladder? Libram paladin? It’s fair, unless you face… demon hunter (and a couple other matchups). But there are so many demon hunters on ladder that u soon stop to play your deck.
How many decks have had a perfect meta score on Vs? All of those who have in the past have been severely nerfed. All of them were some kind of meta tyrant.
What’s the question you ask yourself when taking a deck into ladder? Does it beat demon hunter? Answer is always no unless you’re warrior. Then, does it beat anything else than demon hunter, with demon hunter being so popular? Answer is again, no, unless you’re warrior.
If today’s GM matches were conquest, whichever of the two, demon hunter or warrior, would likely sweep line’ups.
What would be the best thing to happen to hearthstone? Yet another Demon hunter nerf, because it would allow for more meta diversity. And probably a nerf to Warrior as well, because at least warrior has high skill ceiling, but it’s too dominant as well.
My candidates for demon hunter nerfs are warglaives : You should only get the new swing if the minion died, so at least big minions (6-7 health and up) would be out of range of the weapon. Twin slice should become twinspell (it makes hand management less easy, because the second spell doesnt go to the right). The class overall should have less reach behind taunts too.
The nerf to warrior should probably be to remove pirate tag to risky skipper (that way it cant be tutored every game).
