For a 5-cost pretty sure it will stay on the board after taking up to 5 damage.
It looks useful, but sure wouldn’t spend dust on it until a month after at least.

Nevermind, the 4 cost candle card is automatically cast. If your opponent had to pay 4 this card would be awesome. As is, fun to play at best, but looks like a good idea that failed by committee.
Not good enough for most mill decks either except dead man’s hand warrior. This card is made for that deck as a surprise finisher.

I think it works better by understanding that it randomly prevents card draw for 3 turns (paying 4 is prohibitively expensive).
So with that in mind, how can this card be useful?
I’m thinking warlock is the deck for this guy with gnomeferatu and the howlfiend/treachery combo. Cripple the opponent’s hand and draw.
Also DK Valeera combos well, and it’s immune to vanish while dormant. Prevents card draw twice as much, and can wake up faster, and your opponent must deal with both copies when they do. Good single card add to compliment 2 arcane giants.
On the subject of doubling its battlecry, murmuring elemental gives great value to the darkness for only 1 mana.
In short, I believe the darkness’ battlecry can be powerful if properly exploited.
Wax Elemental
I like it in buffadin with small-time recruits, too bad it didn’t come sooner.
Adding 2 of these isn’t as good as the current set of 1-drops.
Then it all rotates out next set anyway.
Sigh.
Gravelsnout Knight
Because you’ll notice at the higher ranks everyone plays around MCT.
A 75% chance of getting a better minion AND evening up the board is better than playing MCT for nothing.
In fact, it’s really damn good.
Corridor Creeper
This card slides well into buffadin for board clear punishment.
Up until now it’s only been skelemancer, but I see some potential running both.
Gravelsnout Knight
A tech card to counter decks countering your tech cards.
Helper card for mind control tech, spreading plague, even brawl.
I expect we’ll see this at the high end of ladder.
Gilded Gargoyle
Synergizes well with Anduin and Auctioneer. Becomes necessary when Raza rotates out.
5 stars for now though because it joins a tier 1 deck.
Potion of Heroism
Looks like a missing puzzle piece to make Kibler’s never-reach-legend “legend buffadin” deck actually viable with some actual card draw. Just watch him fail to board clears again.
Kobold Apprentice
Flame Juggler saw quite a lot of play on ladder back in the day. Despite the 2 extra damage, it doesn’t share the same 2/3 body, and could be easily taken down by a half-dead Firefly.
An understatted Flame Juggler for 1 more mana. Seems alright for arena anyway.
Void Ripper
I really wanted to hate on this card, mostly for how useless Confuse was.
But being only 3 mana and neutral opens up a lot of possibilities for this as a finisher in the right deck.
Murloc Paladin, Hadronox Druid, and Quest Warrior off the top of my head combo really well with their high health minions.
Damn murlocs just won’t go away. 5 stars.
Oaken Summons

Not bad then. Doesn’t fit the meta, but definitely something to build a deck around.
Great card, looks fun to play.
Still, pretty slow, would work in a new Big Priest style control deck.
