Time Rip
Control priest will be viable and will use galakrond to become a control-value hybrid and will be very strong. Part of its viability comes from the 4 mana 3/6 dragon that reduces the cost of cards in your hand by 1 if you have invoked 2 times. This helps because the deck will likely hold a lot of cards in hand and reducing cost is a great way to ensure all of your cards are playable. This card (time rip, the one this page is on) fits right into the idea of this deck with the control in killing a minion and the value of getting a priest minion as well as potentially upgrading your galakrond or 3/6 dragon
Devoted Maniac
This card is atrociously horrible. I couldn’t imagine this seeing play when you can sacrifice rush and 1 mana for +2/3 and taunt (5 mana 4/5 taunt invoke). That card is neutral as well. There is no reason whatsoever to run this unless you are poor and want to make a galakrond deck but don’t have any other invoke cards. The only way I could possible imagine the idea of this card seeing any use in constructed is if warlock gets either a strong passive attack buff sort of card or something with rush, which may push this into viability in the zooish galakrond warlock deck. Even that deck may not gets the tools it needs to be viable, though, and I highly, highly doubt that there would be anything printed where this is the best possible support option
Dwarven Sharpshooter
I don’t think people realize how insane this card is. It’s not just a 1 mana 1/3. If you play this card on turn 1, then this is a huge help to setting up your board. Usually 1/3s are very weak to 3/2 cards played to counter (notably flame imp). This card gets rid of that completely and is very strong against 3/2s, because if the opponent plays a 3/2 then you can just kill it. Against other 1/3s or 2/3s, this attacking+hero power will deal with it if necessary. This card is scary. 5 stars
On a sidenote, I think this card and possibly the 3/5 mech that deals 5 when hero power is used will push midrange hunter away from master’s call. There are already a lot of cards that support that deck but are not beasts (Most obvious example is houndmaster). These cards will push the deck over the limit. This is basically blizzard’s way of saying they don’t like master’s call. They’re saying “you can still play master’s call, but you aren’t getting any new help besides some secret synergy beast. On the other hand, you can play an old midrange hunter deck, complete with brand new cards! Also, we will give every other class equally op cards so sadly the master’s call deck may not be viable anymore.”
Azure Explorer
The developers nearly broke the game.
So basically hearthstone has said before that they start working on expansions around a year in advance, and that by the time the previous expansion is implemented into the game, the next expansion is done. This means that this and all of the other dragon cards similar to this one must have been completed around the time Uldum was released.
Why is this important? Well, if you remember, a few weeks into Uldum, discover was changed. The old discover used to have all discover cards be more likely to choose a class card than a neutral one. This means that this and all other dragons that discover a dragon would have been more likely to discover dragons from their class. blizzard created these cards while the old discover rules were in place, and had the meta not called for a change, blizzard may have put these dragons into the game with the old discover effect. This is a problem.
Considering that the 3 classes to receive a dragon that discovers a dragon are 3 of the 4 “hero classes”, I think it’s safe to assume paladin will be getting one of these as well. Of these classes, hunter is the only one that is not a problem (because they have 2 class dragons, one which just sucks and emeriss, which is way too slow for hunter) The other 3 classes, on the other hand, have some issues.
Let’s start with druid. Their dragon is a 4/8 taunt for 6; already a very good statline that will play really nicely on turn 6 when combined with that dragon ramp card. To understand what cards we would likely be seeing with the old discover, we have to look at what dragons druid currently has. None. They don’t have any dragons. There have been 2 druid dragons revealed; this and their version of ysera. They might also be getting another dragon this expansion that hasn’t been revealed. If the druid ysera was actually good (we can’t be sure it isn’t but to me it just looks bad), this would have been a huge problem. Still though, with only 2-3 class dragons, it is incredibly likely you will be offered to discover itself, and if poorly stated cards frequently enjoy discovering themselves (stonehill defender is the best example), this would have been a nightmare to deal with.
Paladin: Paladin dodges a major bullet with bronze herald, which is not an unfair card. However, hitting either the new nozari, the old nozari (great card to have 2 of) or itself (we don’t know what this card will be yet, but based on the looks of the other ones we can assume it probably has decent stats/effects). Having 3/4 class options be very powerful is just too good and not fair, especially because one of those options is itself, which gives another oppurtunity to discover itself or a nozari.
Mage: Mage is the real problem here. Currently, mage has one dragon; Kalecgos. Also, the mage malygos has been revealed and is a dragon as well. This means that this card has 3 class options that would have been more likely to appear. Kalecgos, a very powerful and highly used legendary that can swing games, the mage malygos, which has a very powerful effect to really drive and encourage the use of dragon mage, and itself. If this card discover itself, it gives another chance to hit one of the 2 legendary dragons mentioned above. This means that there is (or would have been without the change) a near guaranteed 2nd copy of a game-swinging card. This is not fair at all, and would have been a complete nightmare to deal with.
I can’t believe it, but I think control warrior and dr boom being too overpowered just saved us from another bs mage deck meta.
Witch's Brew
Control Shaman looks insane and this card is great at keeping shaman alive. The trick is to play this card with kragwa and you automatically have 100 health in your hand
Flight Master
This card is honestly not that bad if youhave a decent taunt minion and your opponent doesnt have removal it becomes 3 mana 5/6 deal 2 damage to a friendly minion. In arena an effect like this could be very powerful. Also a tech card against certain decks but too niche to use as tech. Maybe an aggro deck if they can fit taunt cards. This would have been better in ungoro cuz aggro ran tar creeper and stonehill
Soldier of Fortune
This is actually good with silence priest even though it would be one of the weaker cards in the deck it should still make the cut. Terrible in everything else
Hunting Party
This is underrated beacause it is extremely scary with double this and oondasta
Dr. Boom's Scheme
I feel like it would be cool if this costed 5 or 6 and shuffled a bomb into the opponents deck. That way it would still be shit as a topdeck and for a little while but it wouls synerigize with blastmaster boom and late game it would just win. Also this fits the art much better
Dr. Boom's Scheme
Too broken. Don’t understand why its so low rated this card should have been 10 mana. Imagine this. You are facing a mage with 10 health and you topdeck this cards and are now at 11 health. They pyroblaat you. This card just saved your life way too broken this is op omg game changer 100000/5 waaayy too good
I do agree with most of what you’re saying, but I feel like it’s highly unlikely that this card won’t find a place in at least a tier 3 deck somewhere. The Warlock hero card seems most like it’s leaning towards zoo, but I actually think it will work well in a board-focused midrange deck. Summoning 4 random demons is going to give fairly consistent strong results, and a board-focused midrange deck wants to do exactly this. The 5 mana 4/5 taunt invoke also seems very strong in a midrange warlock deck because the raw stat value of 6/7 (4/5+two 1/1s) for 5 is great, especially because it has partial taunt. As long as another decent invoke card gets released, this deck should have the invoke it needs to work (although you would still be forced to run the 3 mana 1/1 which isn’t really a great midrange card) There are a lot of other midrange warlock board control cards that haven’t had the deck support to see play (first example I think of is riftcleaver), and I think this minion, given that is has a solid statline and a great effect of drawing 3 cards, is enough to push that deck into viability.
If this does not work, however, then there is still a chance this card could see play. Zoo Warlock. Assuming the midrange deck didn’t work because of the lack of invoke support, that probably means the rest of the invoke cards for warlock or neutral were more aggresively oriented. Assuming a 2 or 1 mana invoke gets printed, I think aggro will see play because this card will be active on turn 4 significantly more often and even if it isn’t, as you said, It’s entirely possible this card is so good when it generates value that it’s okay when you have to play it as just a 5/4 on occasion. Also, this card drawing 3 for that deck is huge because it increases the chances of drawing and playing a fully upgraded galakrond on turn 7, which should almost always be an instant game winner as long as you aren’t way behind.
Overall, I think this card and the invoke warlock deck will work somewhere, even if it’s not apparent where that is yet.
