The Lore of the Witchwood's Cards - Explained by Hearthstone Devs!
As far as mythology is concerned, Satrys are woodland deities, not demons and they are always lascivious males. The females were the Nymphs.
Shudderwock & Lifedrinker Animation Speed Being Increased! Shudderwock to be Capped at 20 Battlecries!
The number of battlecries in the deck is not particular relevant since the point of the OTK is to repeat them over and over again. The murmuring elemental already doubles them the first time and then each Shudderwock you play subsequently doubles that and then the next one doubles that… It gets way more than 20 with just a few replays often continuing long after the opponent is dead.
I certainly wouldn’t be dusting Shudderwock from this change. There are now a number of Shudderwock decks that are not OTK decks and are much better than the OTK version. I’ve been using it in Quest Shaman at the moment as the that’s great with Hagatha and the Hagatha, quest and murloc battlecries are all great ones to double up on without the need for murmuring shenanigans.
Brian Kibler's Witchwood Blackhowl Gunspire Rotface Warrior (April 2018)
Love this deck. It’s not just the Gunspire that can go crazy. If Gromash sticks, Faceless but Sudden Genesis gives you four of them!
Hearthstone Top Decks Witchwood Launch Giveaway!
I got Aviana too. Not one I’d want to try even for the memes. I crafted the Gunspire though as I wanted to try Kibler’s deck and it’s gone 4 / 0 so far. Really fun!
Hidden Wisdom
I just mean that Echo is the thing that would cause these secrets to proc. Drawing 2 cards for 1 mana is going to be good whenever it goes off (unless your hand is full). If the opponent is playing around it they are playing sub-optimal turns and restricting any echo effects to a maximum of 2 procs. So either this goes off and gives you your card draw or the opponent spends the whole game restricting their plays and, possibly floating mana to prevent it.
Druid of the Scythe
One thing to consider is that, assuming this works like the other Druid transforms, the alternate forms are likely to have the beast tag. For whatever that synergy is worth!
Arcane Keysmith
It’s good synergy with the minion-based deck that Book of Specters is pushing. The less spells you play in that deck the better and this is a spell embedded in a minion. Similar to the way Spell Hunter embeds it’s minions in spells, this does it the other way around ๐
Splitting Festeroot
Cool idea. Could get hard-countered by that Defile Legendary in Warlock.
Mossy Horror
This also counters the 1/3 taunts that spawn off of Void Lord as well as the 1/5 taunts from Spreading Plague.
Town Crier
Re. the rarity: On the one hand they do tend to use Epic for more complicated cards but, on the other hand, there’s nothing wrong with the old adage “you get what you pay for”. Intuitively I would expect Rare’s to be better cards than Commons and Epics to be better than Rares and Legendaries to be better than Epics.
Of course, that’s not guaranteed in Hearthstone but I’m not going to complain when it works out that way. If something is difficult to get it should be worth the wait. Getting an Epic from a pack should be an exciting moment if possible so I have no problem with this being an Epic.
Admittedly, I’m not an f2p player and I currently have a full collection so while I can see why requiring expensive cards for competitive decks can be a downside it’s not something I generally have to worry about ๐
Voodoo Doll
In mage it’s a 5 mana instant kill with hero power which is not quite as good as Rogue’s Assassinate (since Assassinate doesn’t use up the hero power). Of course Assassinate doesn’t see play.
It’s better if you can combine with a board clear like Dragons Fury, Spirit Lash or Hellfire or with some kind of Pyromancer combo but only if that doesn’t destroy more of your board than the enemy!
Chameleos
It wasn’t a particularly serious comment but it does happen: In the end game when they’re juggling multiple Kings Bane they got from the DK to avoid fatiguing themselves.
Ravencaller
I have a Quest Hunter deck in Wild which I play for fun. The win rate is about 48% at the moment but I’ll definitely give this a try in that deck ๐
Tavern Brawl - Miniature Warfare
This is the most fun Tavern Brawl for ages. Probably because I keep winning! (13/7 win rate)

Witch's Apprentice
I think this could be pretty good. 1 mana card draw is sweet and a taunt can protect a bigger minion. Flametongue token can buff any 1 drop, as was mentioned, but the fact that this gives taunt means it can protect the flametongue at the same time. Not so good against the ping classes but forcing a hero power to clear it can be a good thing in itself in the early game. While they’re pinging they’re not adding to the board.
Not for me. It took me about 15 attempts to beat Hagatha!
I would have preferred the treasures to be random in the Hagatha fight, though. It always gives you the same ones.
