Implying that it will be dealing 1 damage, and not be used alongside buffs to deal more damage. Even 2 damage makes it more than viable.

Without any support, it’s a neutral 1/6 with rush bundled with an Arcane Explosion, don’t see how it “obviously” needs a buff.

The Karazhan chess encounter was definitely an auto battler though, wasn’t it? I mean, it sure worked on a very similar principle at its core – the pieces would attack/heal automatically (except the knight), and all the player had to do was strategically position them.

It isn’t the same exact game as Auto Chess but it has the same core mechanics as Auto Chess. In fact, I realised that there are a few other games which work on the same principle, including some of Starcraft 2’s most popular arcade mods. The players simply place their units which would go and battle on their own.

In any case, none of these are really similar to chess. Just having a board and units isn’t enough to qualify a game to be chess-like. The Karazhan chess game and Auto Chess are more similar to each other than either of them are to actual chess.

I believe there have been “auto battlers” around for a long time, there used to be some mods in Warcraft 3 which were like that. But in terms of calling it “chess”, I think Blizzard had that idea the first. I don’t like the name “auto chess” though, since the only reason it resembled chess was the fluff that the Karazhan chessboard had. Nothing else in the sub-genre really resembles chess at all.

Has everyone forgotten where the “chess” part of auto chess came from? It’s from the chess mode in the Karazhan adventure.

Although that’s not what “hs client” means, this mode will be available to play exactly where you’re thinking: the menu screen.
