They have subsequently retconned the patch notes to remove the paragraph about completing achievements, rather than, you know, actually fix things.

Notwithstanding what the official blog post says, the current gameplay achievements no longer reward xp as of after installing today’s patch, as I found out when I finally completed the Plaguemaw achievement.
