The Amazing Reno
Now that we’ve seen the hero power, I’m…I don’t even know how to describe it.
I really hope Blizzard moves away from Casino Mage as a style of play in the coming year. I’m pretty much a dedicated Mage player, and so much of Mage’s design in this year’s sets has been focused on random spells and random minions that Mage has started to feel like Tavern Brawl: The Class.
The worst part of this is that the Battlecry is so strong, control-style Reno decks will almost certainly need to run it to compete, and then spend the rest of the game praying that they don’t get Pyroblast aimed at face.

I’ve definitely got nerf fatigue, myself, and with every nerf patch I honestly feel less motivated to play. While sometimes nerfs are necessary, I’ve felt like they’re being used more to create an influx of interest than anything else over the past year or so, to the point where even decks that aren’t really oppressive are just as likely to be hit as format warping ones. That leaves me feeling like it’s not really safe to invest in cards and decks these days, and I’ve gone from a player who pre-ordered every set since I picked up the game during KFT to F2P.
I’d personally like to see a much slower pace for nerfs, and also greater tolerance for powerful decks both from the community and from Blizzard. I much prefer for metas to grow and change in more organic ways, and the frequent nerfs and even standard-impacting events makes it feel like we never really get a fully developed meta anymore.
That’s just me though—by and large the community seems pretty happy with the pace of change in the game as of late.
I’ve stopped playing Constructed almost entirely as a result of the ever increasing pace of nerfs, myself. I like for things to develop naturally, and to really learn the ins and outs of both the met and my chosen deck over time. I also like being able to invest in a given deck or archetype over time, but with nerfs being so frequent and sometimes targeted not against truly broken decks but against decks that result in a lot of player complaints, I don’t feel save investing in cards anymore. My spending has plummeted on the game accordingly, when I used to pre-order every set (often twice, for gifts, even).
I’ve never much liked nerfs to begin with though: my preference would always be for standard bans/Hall of Fame to be the lever used, and only against truly format-warping decks. Not being able to go back to old cards even in Wild because nerfs are often so severe as to kill cards is very frustrating, too.
So while the community as a whole is always really glad for their coveted meta shakeups, the constant nerfs and changes are making the game less fun for me overall.
