Top Standard, Wild & Twist Legend Decks – TITANS + Fall of Ulduar (Week 12) – October 2023

A new expansion has been officially announced – it will drop in just a bit over 3 weeks, on November 14. It wasn’t really unexpected if you followed my ramblings in those weekly posts (I noted that the release schedule points towards an early expansion release a while now), but it’s good to finally have a specific date. We’ve already entered the reveal season, final cards will be shown at BlizzCon. I even got another opportunity to reveal a few cards myself! I’ve seen some complaints that the power level seems low so far, but that’s mostly due to how Blizzard is revealing cards right now. They’re starting with Neutrals, so we’re seeing a lot of basic cards and “pack fillers” first. The class cards are usually way more exciting. But I like it this way, because first they showcase all Neutrals, and then they go class by class. It means that e.g. after they show all Warlock cards early, we can already theorycraft with all of the information available. Class cards will start dropping on Monday, so we don’t have to wait long.

As for the current meta – well, again, it didn’t really change much. The last balance update happened ~25 days ago, so the meta had enough time to settle. Sure, we had The Jailer ban shortly after, but we already know that it didn’t change much. I was REALLY hoping for a balance patch this week, but we didn’t get anything in 27.6. Blizzard already gave a date – a new patch will drop next Thursday (patch notes should be ready early next week), which – by the way – is horrible timing given that Masters Tour: Fall Championship happens next weekend. As far as I know, players have to submit their decks the day of the patch, so they will have no opportunity to playtest anything, they will only rely on patch notes to decide whether deck X or Y will still be good.

I’d say that the only major “development” in the meta is a recent surge in the popularity of Secret Rogue. It has become the second most popular deck in Legend and fourth in Diamond. The shell of the deck is not new, similar builds were already played a while back. In fact, the deck doesn’t even run any TITANS cards, it was activated by Fall of Ulduar mini-set. Because what’s new is Yogg-Saron, Unleashed. Players have realized that the card works insanely well with both Shadowstep and Breakdance, giving Rogue an easy way to play it multiple times in a row. Prison Breaker is also a nice mid-game board clear in a class that usually struggled with those a bit. And Ghastly Gravedigger also gives some nice hand disruption – shuffling your opponent’s win con (like Yogg) back into their deck feels pretty good. Other than that, most of the popular/strong decks remain the same.

Because the meta is quite stale, players don’t really share many decks, that’s why this week’s compilation is a bit empty. And given that the patch drops on Thursday, I might not have enough decks to make a compilation by Sunday, but we’ll see.
