Top Standard, Wild & Twist Legend Decks – The Great Dark Beyond (Week 7) – December 2024

Before I start, I want to say that issues with deck codes are sadly still present. Any deck with Zilliax Deluxe 3000 (and let’s be real, that’s a lot of decks) won’t have its code working. The issue turned out to be more difficult to solve and the dev bandwidth I have access to is very limited. Believe me when I say it that I try to solve it as quickly as possible but it might take some more time. As a workaround, I always try to post a working deck code whenever I can. This post will be no different – for every deck running Zilliax, I will paste a working deck code BELOW the deck itself. Use it instead of the usual deck code box. I’m sorry for the inconvenience.

I’ll be taking the next few days off, visiting family for the holidays. I should be back on Friday (December 27th), so most likely no new decks until then (I say most likely because I’m still taking my laptop, I probably should just relax but you know how it is).

First a small website update – some of you might have noticed that we went through a maintenance a few days ago. We were implementing a fix for the Zilliax deck code issue (also adding the ability to – FINALLY – add stuff to your ETC/Zilliax when building a deck), as well as a few other smaller things. We also had to update to a newer version of WordPress to do an SQL update and keep some plugins alive… And boy, the website didn’t like it. Updating WordPress bricked a lot of the functions on the website and we had to roll it back. We tried to figure it out before Christmas break but didn’t manage to, I’m sorry about it. We’ll probably get back to it after the new year and hopefully figure it out.

As for the game – we did have a balance update earlier this week (on Tuesday). The biggest change in high Legend was a nerf to Sonya Waterdancer – it heavily limits what kind of combos they can pull off now. But since they weren’t very popular across the board, it didn’t affect the overall meta that much for an average player. However, nerfs to Sigil of Skydiving and Zilliax’s Pylon Module sure did. Aggro Shaman and Pirate version of Aggro Demon Hunter have dropped so much. Interestingly enough, Aggro Shaman still seems to be viable, but it’s common for people to abandon a deck after such a big nerf. The patch also hit Dungar Druid a bit, but the deck is still kicking around (a bit weaker than it was, but still viable).

It created some room for some new… and some old decks to thrive. The three most popular builds on the ladder right now are Lynessa Paladin, Asteroid Shaman, and Rainbow DK. Two of them are burn/combo decks relying heavily on Ethereal Oracle (which I’m very surprised wasn’t nerfed) and the last one is the good old reliable DK build that’s been playable for the last few expansions, just getting updated with new cards. Other popular builds include Discover Hunter, Dungar Druid, Elemental Mage and Aggro Demon Hunter (but not the Pirate one).

No matter whether you like the current meta or not, it’s safe to say that we’re stuck with it for a bit. Blizzard is now on a break until after the new year, and I don’t expect a new patch to drop right after. The mini-set should be coming in mid-January. If I had to guess, we probably won’t see another balance update before the mini-set as long as no broken deck suddenly gets discovered. So we should have a few weeks of more or less the same, unless players come up with some hidden metabreaker.
