Another week of Stormwind. While many players still aren’t happy with how the Standard meta shapes up, at least we can say one thing – there’s way more diversity than we had early into the expansion. Questline Mage, Shaman and Warlock are still the three most popular decks, but together they make up for only a bit over 30% of the meta (closer to 40% at high Diamond, but it’s still not that bad). So while they are popular, they don’t dominate the experience and you can play against nearly all the classes. I say nearly, because Warrior is notably absent from the game – there are still some Questline, Big or Rush Warriors, but together they make up for less than 2% of the meta at higher ranks. You technically CAN play those, but stats suggest that they aren’t the best choice. Good news is that besides Warrior, every class has solid representation on the ladder, and that’s always a good thing.
Wild, on the other hand, is in a much worse shape. Despite all the Warlock nerfs, Blizzard didn’t address the core of the problem, and Questline Warlock is still by far the most dominant deck – both in terms of popularity (while I don’t have exact stats, I’ve seen some people reporting over 50% of their matchups being against different Warlock variants) and in terms of power level (it’s unquestionable Tier 0). Devs have already confirmed that they’re looking into Wild nerfs, potentially targeting Crystallizer, which would actually have a meaningful impact on how quickly the Questline can be completed. We’ll see whether things change in the other format, but I don’t expect patch sooner than mid-September anyway, so there are probably at least ~10 more days of this meta.
The patch I’ve mentioned should also contain some more Standard changes, including buffs – I’m expecting Warrior to be the main target this time around. Maybe some Control Warrior buffs combined with Combo deck nerfs would bring the deck back into the game? Or at least the Big version, since it seems to be more capable of dealing with Combo builds due to an actual win condition. And if the upcoming patch won’t make a big impact, the next stop will be mini-set. Hard to say when exactly it will come out – normally I would say a month from now, but maybe they are going to push it a bit earlier because Mercenaries game mode launches on October 12. Or maybe they are going to embrace it and do a major patch and, releasing those two together? We’ll see – but either way, I expect the mini-set to have a decent impact on the meta. Not expansion-like impact, but both of the mini-sets we had so far were quite successful.

Me and the boys being the 2% of the meta feel like Garrosh’s True Horde
You have miss a powerful wild deck, the mighty maxima/c’thun hunter 😀
Oh yeah, I thought about sharing it, but in the end it’s exploiting a bug. Blizzard PROBABLY won’t ban anyone for it, but I don’t want to risk sharing it and making someone get banned. So play it at your own risk 🙂
For Hsreplay it’s an “honest” 55,8%, anyway killing a “legitimate” broken deck (aka warlock) with this makes you feel on the side of justice (like farming quest mage with face hunter).
seriously as long as we have stuff like seedlock in wild, bug c’thun hunter and previously bug mecathun rogue are perfectly fine tier 3 deck that require more skill than said seedlock.
