Top Standard & Wild Legend Decks – The Great Dark Beyond (Week 9) – January 2025

Before I start, I want to say that issues with deck codes are sadly still present. Any deck with Zilliax Deluxe 3000 (and let’s be real, that’s a lot of decks) won’t have its code working. The issue turned out to be more difficult to solve and the dev bandwidth I have access to is very limited. Believe me when I say it that I try to solve it as quickly as possible but it might take some more time. As a workaround, I always try to post a working deck code whenever I can. This post will be no different – for every deck running Zilliax, I will paste a working deck code BELOW the deck itself. Use it instead of the usual deck code box. I’m sorry for the inconvenience.

Welcome to the first Legend decks roundup of 2025. I hope you all had a great New Year celebration! When it comes to Hearthstone news, it’s been another slow week. But since everyone is coming back to the office tomorrow, things should pick up the pace once again soon.

The last balance patch was released a while ago (about 3 weeks at this point), so I didn’t expect any meta developments, but here we are. There’s a new Aggro deck on the rise – Pain Aggro Priest (or however you want to call it). It mostly runs the high tempo, early game minions combined with some burn damage, including some clever use of Shadowtouched Kvaldir. You can burn enemy for 8 damage with Holy Springwater, but also if you play it right before triggering Overzealous Healer‘s Deathrattle to turn it from 6 healing to 6 damage. The deck can deal a surprising amount of damage from hand. When I was testing it out, I finished a few matches with ~15 burn damage from hand, which is especially neat against decks that Taunt up in the mid/late game and it’s hard to get the minion damage through. Early stats put the deck somewhere in Tier 2, but it’s still being optimized, so there’s a chance it’s even better.

There’s also Supernova Mage, which is a pretty fun deck to play, but it doesn’t look that strong. It’s mostly a Tempo Mage deck with Supernova at the high end as a refill. If you get a hand full of 1 mana Fire Spells, it’s very likely going to include some good ones, especially burn (but Trial by Fire is also nice). It’s a cool concept but sadly a bit lacking. It kind of gets overwhelmed by the early Aggro decks and it’s not fast enough to finish slow decks before they take off (you mostly rely on Supernova RNG but it’s not always good enough). Feel free to try it out, but keep in mind that it’s sort of a Tier 3 deck.

Other than that, players have been experimenting a bit with Shaman. There are two “new” decks that some were trying out on the ladder – Dungar Shaman (pretty okay) and Murmur Shaman (not really good but fun). Dungar Shaman relies on Battlecry discounts to get an early Travelmaster Dungar out, in a similar vein to Dungar Druid cheating him out early. And Murmur Shaman is an OTK deck relying on Murmur discounts to pull off the combo (the basic gist is that you Alexstrasza the opponent to 15, then play Shudderblock + Kalimos, Primal Lord to deal 18 damage). However, don’t get used to it, as the interaction between Shudderblock and Kalimos is set to change in patch 31.4 (right now Kalimos “casts an evocation” on Battlecry, so it’s technically the evocation that deals damage not his Battlecry – although it’s not exactly intuitive with how other damage Battlecries work).

In Wild, Questline Warlock was gone for a short moment, but it seems to be coming back again, this time in a slower form. I honestly don’t mind it that much, the worst part about it was insane early/mid game pop-offs with Darkglare and they’re gone now. And we have way more degenerate decks in the format if you ask me (like Hostage Mage or Draka OTK Rogue). But once the deck gets popular once again (and it inevitably will once it gets more support printed in the future), I assume that the complaints will come back.

In Twist, there’s not really much to talk about other than the weird format change timing. Instead of changing the format with season reset, we’re getting a new format tomorrow (January 6). Well, “new” format is probably overselling it – we have Wonders turning into Wonders XL (you can put up to 40 cards in your deck, your starting HP scales with the number of cards you play). Other than that it’s the same thing. Wonders was… let’s just say that for the last few weeks I had trouble finding more than 1 or 2 decks per week. That’s how “popular” it was. I doubt that XL version will move the needle.

Right now we’re mostly in the mini-set waiting room. There’s no official date, but the two most likely ones are January 14 or 21. If it’s January 14, then we should get an announcement and first reveals in the coming week. If not, the week after. Either way, it’s not going to be a long wait now. As a reminder, it’s going to be the first IP cross-over with Starcraft coming to Hearthstone. The mini-set will be a big larger than usual and let’s hope that it introduces some cool new decks or shakes up the meta in general.

Below is a full list of the Legend decks from last week, sorted by the highest placement.
