Top Standard & Wild Legend Decks – Showdown in the Badlands (Week 8) – January 2024

It’s 2024! Last year was really cool for Hearthstone, it might have been the year with most QoL features and updates ever, all three expansions were pretty fun and we had lots of great metas (and some bad ones, but at leas for me, the game was usually in a good state). Sadly the first big news of 2024 were already bad – Duels is shutting down. I have to admit that I wasn’t paying much attention to the format – I haven’t been posting Duels deck for a while now simply because they gathered almost no views on our website. I know that there were some successful content creators focused on Duels, and some of you probably really liked the format, so I’m sad that it’s gone. I think that a big problem is that Blizzard is coming up with fun/interesting ideas for new game modes, but then has a lot of issues with either implementing them or keeping them alive long-term (Hearthstone always struggled with monetization in particular). Old Guardian is actually writing an article about this topic and it should drop tomorrow if you’re interested.

As for the meta, it’s pretty much the same as last week. We had no updates or anything like that, so Excavate Rogue is still by far the most popular deck in Legend. Below Legend Treant Druid takes the cake, although Rogue is a close second. If we removed those two, we would have the most diverse meta in a LONG time. Only a few other decks surpass 5% play rate, and there are like 15 playable decks in the 1-5% play rate range.

This meta is not going to last for much longer though, because there’s a mini-set coming soon. I honestly expected it to be announced earlier this week (e.g. on Thursday) and then released next week, but maybe they didn’t want to do it so quickly after coming back to the office. So my current guess is an announcement next week and a release a week after (probably either on the 16th or 18th). And I can’t wait, because even though I enjoy the current meta, with no updates in 3 weeks it’s been getting a bit stale already. By the time mini-set launched, it will be almost a month since the last update (I don’t expect them to push any patches before the mini-set).

Oh, and one more thing. Since we’re in the middle of a Heroic Tavern Brawl, I posted a bit fewer Standard Legend decks than usual. However, I have a bunch of 12-win Brawl decks to show you instead. Those are also all solid ladder options since the Brawl meta is not that much different than the ladder meta.
