Top Standard & Wild Legend Decks – Perils in Paradise (Week 5) – August 2024

It’s a Heroic Tavern Brawl week. And a rather eventful one – it’s a Wild Brawliseum (most of the ones we get are Standard), it’s not directly before the mini-set, and… we had a “small” cheaters problem. Luckily the cheaters were already dealt with. All of the Wild decks featured below are from the Brawl (since most of the notable Wild players play it instead of ladder), but they should all work well outside of it too.

In Standard, not much has happened. Masters Tour had a brief impact on the meta, with many (mostly Legend) players testing Sonya Rogue. The deck performed incredibly well during the tournament, but unless you’re one of the best players in the world, you aren’t likely to do well with it on the ladder. Because of that, it briefly spiked to insane popularity levels (at one point it was 20-30% of high Legend), but the interest quickly died down after other players started teching against it (cards like Customs Enforcer or Speaker Stomper shut it down quite well). People still run it, but at a much more reasonable 5-10% play rate in high Legend (and more like 2-3% outside of it).

Other than that, we’re facing pretty much the same meta as last week, with Tempo Druid and Death Knight (Frost/Unholy and Rainbow variants) fighting for the top popularity spot. You will run into those decks a lot. Then there’s Handbuff Paladin and Fatigue Warlock, two powerful decks that slightly lag behind Tempo Druid and Death Knights in terms of popularity. When you add those up, they make up around 40% of the Diamond meta (slightly less outside of Diamond – around 25-30% depending on the rank).

However, in terms of win rate they seem to be matched or even outshined by less popular builds like Pain Warlock, Aggro Shaman, Zarimi Priest or Aggro Paladin. Interestingly enough, those aren’t nearly as popular. Pain Warlock and Aggro Shaman (if we add up different builds together) are both sitting around 3-4% play rate, while Zarimi Priest and Aggro Paladin struggle to get past 2%. Heck, Reno Warrior, which is a Tier 3 deck AT BEST (and maybe even Tier 4), is more popular than all of those (around 5% play rate). It shows that the deck’s popularity does not always equal its strength.

Anyway, with no new meta breakthroughs, there’s not much more to talk about. We’re still waiting for some info about the next balance update. As I said last time, the earliest I would expect it is next week (probably on Thursday), but without any official confirmation it’s hard to be sure. I’m still hoping for some buffs to the underperforming classes, because the last round of balance changes wasn’t incredibly impactful.

Below is a full list of the Legend decks from last week, sorted by the highest placement.
