Top Standard & Wild Legend Decks – Perils in Paradise (Week 14) – October 2024

Wow, the last two weeks were certainly interesting. You’ve probably noticed, but I skipped last week’s roundup, mostly for two reasons – we had a balance patch releasing a few days before it and I was really busy. The reveal season, despite the obvious oopsie at the beginning, has been jam-packed with new cards and other announcements. Signature cards in particular are INSANE this expansion and we have more than in any other set. Overall the new expansion is looking quite solid. As always, it’s hard to really judge without actually playing it first, but I like many of the new mechanics and assuming the balance lands right it can be a very good expansion (on the other hand, I already dread facing high-rolling Quasar Rogues). Old Guardian took part in the pre-release event, so he has more thoughts about it than me – you can check out his theorycrafting deck roundup.

The next big feature is the Pre-Release Tavern Brawl. It’s the first time Blizzard is trying it out. Technically we had pre-release Brawls during Fireside Gatherings (RIP) in the past, but those were different. This one is more competititive, with your gold (or real money) on the line. But unlike the infamous Heroic Tavern Brawl, I can actually safely recommend people trying this out. Even in the worst case scenario (0-3 finish), you’re getting 2 packs for the cost of 3. That’s not great, of course, but it’s not like you’re going to lose your entire expansion savings over it. With the free entry, Tavern Tickets that people have gathered over the years etc. it’s an easy recommendation to get at least a few runs in. The Brawl’s meta will be very unique and hard to predict, but we’ll do our best. We’ll have an article with a few theorycraftings that might work (both without any GDB cards for people who don’t pre-order and with GDB Commons + Rares for those who do), and we’ll be adding new successful decks over the course of next week. We’ll see how this whole things goes, but I think it’s quite exciting thing during a normally very boring downtime.

This is also our last deck roundup for Perils in Paradise. The next one would launch only a couple of days before The Great Dark Beyond’s release, not to mention that I will probably be focused on Brawl decks anyway. The expansion’s theme and meta received a very mixed reception overall. It wasn’t all that bad, but there were a few sore spots (like Big Spell Mage’s absolute domination after the mini-set). I won’t go deep into analyzing it, but let’s just say that no matter whether you liked it or not, let’s hope that the next one is good! I will be back with another Legend decks roundup about 2 weeks after the launch of The Great Dark Beyond, but we’ll also be doing our usual “best early meta decks” compilations, so stay tuned. See you all on November 5.
