Top Standard & Wild Legend Decks – Perils in Paradise (Week 12) – October 2024

After a few slower weeks, we finally had an eventful one. Both in terms of announcement and in the meta. And while the expansion’s reception so far has been really good, the current meta is definitely in a more mixed territory.

The Great Dark Beyond is the next Hearthstone set, coming on November 5. It’s the first time the game is really tackling the space theme – something that’s been a part of the Warcraft universe basically forever, but hasn’t been explored that much in Hearthstone. We’re getting a new Starship mechanic, Draenei minion type, Spellburst is making a comeback, and much more. You can check out the full expansion guide here.

As for the meta, we have two new free Legendary cards – Nexus-Prince Shaffar and Avatar of Hearthstone. However, as of now, neither of them made a massive impact. Both of them have less than 2% play rate and don’t seem to fit very well into any deck. Maybe things will change when the new set launches (especially for Shaffar since we’ll most likely see a bunch more Spellburst synergies, so he might benefit from those).

However, the biggest meta change has been a temporary re-introduction of Prince Renathal back into the game. I’ll be honest here – Renathal is one of my favorite cards ever, I’ve always loved enjoyed playing slower XL decks. But the card was always controversial. Some people loved it while others hated it with passion. And given how popular he is right now, it’s safe to say that not everyone will enjoy the current meta.

It looks like so far, the deck that has benefited from it the most is… Big Spell Mage. However, the good news is that it slows down the deck a bit – it still has the same high-rolls, but it pulls them off less consistently. But in terms of the power level, it seems to dominate even more than the original version did when the mini-set launched. Other decks that are commonly trying out Renathal include obvious suspects like Reno Warrior and Reno Druid, but also less expected builds like Combo Druid or Pain Warlock. Old Guardian is preparing an article with a deeper dive into Renathal decks, and it should be ready tomorrow!

Keep in mind that it’s only been a few days (30.6 dropped in Thursday) so it’s still too early to determine how the meta will develop. Also, on that note, some of the decks presented below were played BEFORE the patch, so keep that in mind. I left them in because they still seem to be viable looking at the stats, but play them at your own risk.

Oh, and finally, there’s still one balance patch expected to launch before the next expansion, so that might shake up things a bit once more. And after that, we’re full steam ahead towards The Great Dark Beyond.

Below is a full list of the Legend decks from last week, sorted by the highest placement.
