Roguestone is finally drawing to an end? After many weeks of waiting, Patch 22.2 has a release date – January 25 (Tuesday). I initially thought that it’s going to release on January 11, then I was nearly sure that it will be January 18, but yeah, it was pushed quite far away. I’m still not sure what the reason was – maybe they needed some more time to polish the Battlegrounds side of things (after all, we’re getting a completely new system in what is the biggest post-launch content update).
I won’t get in depth about what the patch might mean for the meta, because Old Guardian already did it in this article. But the long story short is that it looks like Poison Rogue will no longer be on the menu while Thief Rogue should be a bit tempered, but still a strong deck. Which is honestly fine – it’s not like the deck is completely overpowered, it just needs some fine tuning (perhaps a bit more than what we’re getting, but we’ll see).
As for the current meta, well, just look below. It’s the same few decks over and over again, we don’t really have much innovation lately. The only real change is that Ramp Druid is now a clear #2 deck in terms of popularity and it even overtook Thief Rogue at some ranks. I wholeheartedly recommend playing it, because it’s quite fun and I wonder how will it position itself after the balance update. Again, the deck is not THAT strong, stats place it around low Tier 2 or maybe even Tier 3, but I enjoy playing it a lot anyway (I even managed to climb to Top 200 for a moment, before hitting a losing streak and landing back around 400).
But what’s next after 22.2? Honestly, I would imagine that mini-set has to launch soon-ish. Last time Deadmines launched late because of the Mercenaries release, but this time I don’t see anything that could delay it that much. If I had to guess before knowing the 22.2 release date, I would say February 8, but I think that’s a bit too soon. Maybe February 15 or 22? I hope that they don’t launch it as late as Deadmines, because the mini-set meta didn’t really have much time to shine, we went straight from its release to the new expansion reveal and it took most of the spotlight. And this time there’s even more to announce, because new rotation means new Core Set (we’ll have a few articles with our predictions about it before the official announcement).
