After I’ve said that the meta has more or less settled down last week, we’ve been hit with big news – a pretty big balance update is coming tomorrow (Monday, May 18). It should upset the current balance which, of course, is not a bad thing at all. None of the changes were major enough to relegate a T1 deck to T4 or anything like that, but it should give some decks room to breath. If not for those, all I would have to say that Enrage Warrior was gaining even more popularity, and we’ve actually started seeing a bit of Quest Warlock here and there (but it was still too early whether to tell that it might become a part of the meta).
First, the nerfs. Eight cards in total are getting changed. The nerfs will hit 5 classes in total – Demon Hunter (Priestess of Fury, Crimson Sigil Runner), Hunter (Scavenger's Ingenuity), Rogue (Shadowjeweler Hanar, Blackjack Stunner), Warlock (Imprisoned Scrap Imp) and Warrior (Bloodboil Brute, Bloodsworn Mercenary). While none of the nerfs are killing the given cards, the sheer amount of them will make the classes slightly weaker, giving other decks chance to shine.
But, maybe more interestingly, we’re also getting four card buffs (for the first time since Rise of Shadows). Three Shaman cards (Shattered Rumbler, Torrent and The Lurker Below) as well as a single Paladin card (Aldor Attendant) are getting stronger. Given that those were clearly the two weakest classes in the meta, people who play them will definitely be happy. Libram Paladin has gotten a bit stronger, and the same thing goes to some kind of slower/Control/maybe Highlander Shaman. Will it be enough to bring those decks into the meta? Hopefully yes, but we’ll see!
You can see the full list of nerfs and read more about them here. In the meantime, enjoy the pre-nerf decks while you still can π
