General Information

  • You get one Standard card pack for winning your first game this week.
  • It’s the tenth time we see this Brawl. Last time we’ve seen it on March 29, 2023. Additionally, it was one of the Brawls featured in “207th Brawl Spectacular“.
  • It’s a PvP Brawl.
  • The Brawl’s format is Wild.
  • It’s a Constructed Brawl. You pick a class and build your own deck.
  • Whenever you play a minion, you get a random spell of the same cost (but it costs 0). E.g. when playing a 1-drop, you get a random 1-mana spell from any class, and when you play a 5-drop, you get a random 5-mana spell (but those spells will cost 0 mana in your hand).
  • That’s why you want to maintain a solid curve. You can’t play only small minions, because you will end up with a bunch of cheap, useless spells. Ideally, you want to have a 1-2-3-4 etc. curve and hope for some good spells to synergize with them.
  • The spells aren’t cast immediately – you get them in your hand, so you can control the target etc. Since they cost 0, it also means that any minions that have good spell synergy (such as minions with Spellburst) are stronger.
  • Of course, the Brawl is very random – sometimes you will get a bunch of useless spells while your opponent gets strong buffs and removal and you won’t be able to do anything. But that’s the story of heavily RNG Brawls like this one.

i liked especially Spectral Trainee and Cult Neophyte from your deck.

you might want to replace Vicious Slitherspear with Mana Wyrm.

the “new” ideas I encountered were:
    – Haleh as the “super-Flamewaker” and
    – Meteorologist (because your hand will always be full)

and just like in Standard some months ago, Astalor handily replaces the nerfed Denathrius.

after playing lots of games in this tavern brawl i can say that in this format:
    – pen flinger, questing adventurer and mana giant are busted
    – flamewaker and firebrand make for good board control (unlike magic dart frog)
    – loatheb is time warp on legs
    – sire denathrius shows up at the end of every game (as if there was ever any doubt)
    – you will never again have so many issues with hand space, board space, lack of time and especially: “free” spells that clog up your hand because you have no weapon or no demon or no beast to target.
(i even play amalgam as a remedy, but celestial ink definitely did not work for me)

one card that i did not read much about but worked quite well for me is Dune Sculptor.

apart from that most spellburst minions look good, and a low curve is advised, as your hand will overflow from the many cards you generate

Your Classic Mage Tempo Deck is pretty good for this tavern brawl. Been getting non-stop wins with a cheap deck

Winning combo with hunter was kolkar pack runner l, the 1/1 that discovers a secret and the kodo pack and Starving buzzard to refill and a load of beasts all low cost.

Played the current Standard build of Rush Warrior for an easy turn 5 win. Generating Blessing of Wisdom onto Crabrider and Shield of Honor helped 🙂

“Whenever you play a minion, you cast a random spell of the same cost. E.g. when playing a 1-drop, you get a random 1 mana spell from any class.”
“Cast” is not entirely correct, as you can see on the chalkboard. You get a spell of the same cost, which is then reduced to zero, into your hand.

I initially assumed that they are cast immediately but quickly noticed that it’s not the case. I edited it later, but I had to miss that part 🙂 Thanks for the report, I’ve updated it already.

Try Burgly Bully, it’s amazing in this tavern brawl especially with Flamewaker.

Was bored of standard recently so blew basically all of my accumulated dust to craft Dr. Boom as I didn’t manage to pack/craft him before he went out of rotation … old skool Mech Mage is absolutely insane for this brawl – especially with Antonidus in the deck.

Goblin Blast Mage + Free Fireball, yeah, why not.

Summoning Stone no longer works in this brawl (is this a bug?). I ended up with a board full of cards with mana equal to the discounted spells, not the original cost (i.e., Murloc Tinyfins, Dummies and Wisps).

    Hi Evident,

I love the amount of work you put into these guides every week, it’s really helpful for players who don’t have the time to dig through all oft he information out there to find some small nugget of information. Also, apparently Summoning Stone has been nerfed to only makes Wisps this Brawl, which makes me sad.

    Regards,
    Ray “blisterguy” Walkinshaw

Thanks! Dang, that’s a bummer about Summoning Stone. Thanks for the heads up, I’ll have to revise this post.

Other than the Summoning Stone issue, your deck is great. I ended up dropping the two Summoning Stones and Stonesplinter Troggs and replacing them with Dr. Boom. Troggzor, K’T and Rhonin. My deck is a little slower, but that hasn’t posed any problems.

    Hi Evident,

I don’t usually crybaby about stuff and I use your website most commonly for my Hearthstone information updates but your tips regarding the Battle of tol barad seem very bad by my very honest oppinion. I wonder why one would play such a lot of spells in a deck that benefits from playing dudes, you also advice to play auctioneer where i find it hard enough to empty my hand without any card draw. The man of Tol barad is by my oppinion ‘flamewalker’ best used after stocking up spells. The portal is also a fair choice as you suggested, trogg however is very low impact because with all the free spells flying about he gets wasted 80% of the time before he can punch. I made a deck myself with only dudes, nothing that draws cards or discovers spells and it is brutal if RNG doesn’t let you down. Wanna see my list? Can send u a screen if you like, it really is better than what you posted tbh…
Thanks for your website and all the effort you put into keeping it up to date!

    Greetings Jeroen

      Hello,

I agree that Flamewaker is very strong, but I figured that was fairly obvious, especially because I listed Tempo Mage as a strong deck list. Admittedly, I should have changed out the deck list for one of the more put together Tavern Brawl lists. People were running just straight Tempo Mage when I first put up the post. I honestly don’t see why you can’t fit in Trogg if you’re making a deck with only dudes. It still punishes your opponent for playing spells, and they don’t always have an answer. Gadgetzan is perfectly viable, it might not be optimal, but it’s still strong here.

I’m going to add my more revised list, you’re welcome to e-mail me your list using the contact form.
