Official Description for Top 2
The Innkeeper is wondering which two cards work best together. Show him – choose 2 cards and we’ll fill your deck with them!
Top 2 Chalkboard
General Information
- You get one Standard card pack for winning your first game this week.
- It’s the fifth time we see this Brawl (including Standard version). Last time we’ve seen it on January 11, 2023 (May 16, 2018 for Standard).
- It’s a PvP Brawl.
- The Brawl’s format is Wild.
- It’s a Constructed Brawl. You pick a class and build your own (albeit small) deck.
- This Brawl has inspired the (ultimately more common) Top 3 and Battle of the Bans Brawls.
- Gameplay itself has no extra rules – the only rule comes from deck building. You pick only two cards and you get 15 copies of each one of them in your deck. Which means that you can build the ultimate synergistic decks very easily.
Top 2 Decks & Card Chocies
Here are some of the ideas for “decks” you can build. Please share yours in the comment!
- Any Class – Patches the Pirate + Ship's Cannon or Southsea Captain
- Druid – Embiggen + Patches the Pirate
- Druid – Naturalize + Coldlight Oracle
- Druid – Pounce + Spread the Word
- Hunter – Mechwarper + Metaltooth Leaper
- Mage – Ice Block + Ice Lance
- Rogue – Pogo-Hopper + Shadowstep or Card Draw (e.g. Field Contact)
- Rogue – Deadly Poison + Cutting Class
- Shaman – Desert Hare + Revolve
My opponent (Mage) managed to get Thunderbringer down on turn 1.
I only saw it and the coin played. What did I miss?
you missed multiple elemental invocations being played, each discounting thunderbringer by 2.
actually a good strategy, because the thunderbringers have taunt and spawn more thunderbringers when they die
Shard of the Naaru counters many decks like Pogo and Patches.
Astral Automaton is a good fit for the second slot, as it snowballs nicely.
and as Quakins already mentioned below: flik skyshiv + counterfeit coin is a thing people are doing
I’d go so far as to suggest Shard is your MVP here.
It shuts down all swarm decks, and is card draw when you’re the swarm player.
Watch out for Soularium + Soul Barrage
Horn of winter + frozen over has been shockingly effective for me. You basically beat anything that draws cards; even pounce + spread the word if you go first. Also, you deterministically win on turn 5 (going first at least) if they don’t do anything (which is shockingly common because flik skyshiv + counterfeit coin is a thing people are doing). You can potentially fizzle but the odds are very low as long as you remember to mulligan. At least I haven’t fizzled in 10 or so games of playing the deck.
i am deeply impressed how far out of the box hearthstone can be taken.
the only twist about the deck is that you need 2 real mana crystals (not just 1 crystal and the coin), so going second maybe means that you die to T1 Embiggen-Embiggen-Patches from your opponent. … but on the other hand that is true for almost every deck
yeah it is a shame. I was so embarrassed my first time playing the deck when I tried to coin out a frozen over to combo off and kill a pounce druid that wasnt able to kill me turn 1… whoops. But honestly it’s probably the best deck in the format (and embiggen is up there as well) so I’m not super upset that the matchup is *only* 50/50. Other than that it has a tough time beating decks that play to the board (but don’t draw a ton) actually because you won’t have as much health to work with when you do go off. Like the deck you suggested in your other recent comment would probably also be a good matchup just as a virtue of dealing like 10+ damage to me before I can try to win. Still, a fun thing to do that’s not one of the handful of decks everyone is playing just to get their one win in lol. Cheers
I like Mechwarper + Mecha-Shark, but you need 5 Sharks at once for 30 damage, and 2-3 Mechwarpers to discount them, so it’s a turn 5 combo at best (and you run out of space if you want to do it below 8 mana, because you need 3 Mechwarper and 5 Sharks)
still managed to beat some decks, but helpless against pogo and patches
Soulfire + Hand of Guldan looked impressive
Murloc Holmes + Innervate was surprising … Murloc solves the case every time on turn one!
Flurgl + Toxfin keeps pogo and patches in check nicely (obviousy)
Cutting Class does not really cut the class – you have to attack turns 4 and 5 with 15 attack (without the coin), or you coin out the dagger on T1, follow up with Poison-Poison-draw on T2, allowing you to attack for 11 on T3, and live the dream of attacking for 19 on T4 for the win – provided you have not been killed by that time (usually you die on their turn 4), there is no taunt in the way and you drew the right mix of draw and poison in the early turns
Piranha Swarmer also looked like a nice card to have multiples of
Aldor Attendant + Libram of Wisdom is worth a try, but rather mediocre in its results
Ice Block + Frost Lance is powerful but super slow. make sure you mulligan away as many ice blocks as possible, you will start ot curse them later as they clog up your hand. Once you have 10 cards in your hand you fire your first salvo of Frost Lances, usually cutting your opponent’s life total in half. From then on your turns consist mostly of Ice Block-ping-go and you pray for enough Frost Lances to end the game quickly. If you are up against Warrior, you are out of luck, because the theoretical maximum of damage in one turn is 36, and once he is at 37 you cannot kill him any more, because you only draw one card per turn. Smart opponents also refuse to trigger your Ice Blocks and your hand becomes even more clogged.
You might want an opponent who needs spells but if you want to play dk:
Irondeep trogg + grave strength works ok
Hi, two things: 1. The description part is wrong in the post. it says ”Magical creatures are escaping from Tol Barad! Play a minion and get a random spell of the same cost, but for free!” when it should say ”The innkeeper is wondering which two cards work best together. Show Him – choose 2 cards and we’ll fill your deck with them!´´ . 2. The other thing, is that discard warlock is also great with this. ”The soularium” + ”Soul Barrage´´.
You get it totally wrong. Warlock with ”The soularium” + ”Soul Barrage´´ is not just great, it is practically unstoppable 😀
agree
soulfire and soul barrage for even more damage.

Poggo + shadowstep = 100% auto-lose to this deck
Embiggen + Patches is the epitome of degeneracy. o.0 = easily shutdown by this deck
7:0 so far… vs 2 Embiggen Druids, 4 Poggo Rogues, 1 Libram Paladin
12:0 vs Embiggen Druid
5:0 vs Poggo Rogue
1:0 vs Libram Paladin
2:0 vs random Priests
0:1 vs Solarium Wralock
0:2 vs Astralor Priest
Very good combination, feels great to watch all those Pogo and Patches decks concede after you play the Shard 🙂
I tried replacing Mule with Gear Grubber and it’s been working quite well so far, because most turns I was floating mana anyway, and you don’t lose its effect if it ends up in your opening hand after the mulligan.
After trying different combos with the Demon Hunter, this one gave me the biggest win record of 31-6, which isn’t too bad considering no one ever mentioned this combo before. Now, I do know for a fact there are better combo’s out there, but you do have to admit this one will surely irritate countless players.
