Shop Update: Alterac Valley Bundle ($19.99) & Golden Bundle ($39.99) + Battlegrounds Shadowlands and Beach Party Bundles Are Back ($9.99 Each)

We’ve got the first shop update after Alterac Valley’s launch. Given that the expansion has just been released, Blizzard is kindly asking you to buy more packs! The main meat of this update are two Alterac Valley bundles:

  • Alterac Valley Bundle (Rank 1) for $19.99 – 10x Alterac Valley Pack, 10x Standard Pack + 2x Random Legendary from Alterac Valley
  • Golden Alterac Valley Bundle (Rank 1) for $39.99 – 10x Golden Alterac Valley Pack + Random Golden Legendary from Alterac Valley

And just like always, the regular bundle is actually a decent deal. I’m not a big fan of Standard packs, by the end of the year, because they might contain cards that are about to rotate out. But 20 packs + 2x Legendary is still a good deal for $19.99 if you’re looking to spend your money on new cards.

As for the Golden bundle… they are never “worth it” per se, you will never get enough cards from it to be a good deal. However, if you’re looking for a Golden collection OR you want to Dust all of them and hope to snatch a Legendary from your packs – well, if you’re lucky, it might be worth it. But keep in mind that Golden packs don’t have the “guaranteed Legendary in the first 10 packs” rule, so you might as well get almost nothing.

Also, keep in mind that those are “rank 1” bundles. I assume that if you buy them, Rank 2 (and then possibly Rank 3) will appear in the shop. So yes, if you have the money burning a hole in your pocket, that’s a big potential sink.

Update: Altearc Valley Bundle (Rank 2) costs $39.99 and contains 25 AV Packs, 20 Standard Packs, and 2 Legendaries. So 45 packs + 2 Legendaries for $40 – still a good value, although it’s on a more expensive side. I still don’t know how Rank 3 looks like.

However, that’s not all. We’ve also got some Battlegrounds skin bundles coming back. Beach Party and Shadowlands bundles, which were the first Battlegrounds cosmetics, are now back after roughly 4 months. While Beach Bundle doesn’t contain a Tiki Ragnaros bartender, it costs half of the previous asking price ($9.99 instead of $19.99). I actually don’t see them in the shop, but that might be because I already own them. They do, however, appear on the Battle.net store – Beach Party and Shadowlands.

And this one is “worth it” only if you care about Battlegrounds cosmetics in particular. For example, if you liked the skins, but you missed them the last time they appeared – sure, get them. And you don’t have to make your mind anytime soon, since they will be available for over a month – through January 18.

So – if I have the complete Alterac Collection by the time the new miniset will get released and I keep the golden Alterac packs … I’ll get golden copies of the miniset cards, right?

Yep, mini-set cards are added to the packs so if you own all the expansion cards by the time mini-set drops, you’re guaranteed to get them.

I suggest you to reserve a few (2 or 3) normal Alterac packs, and open them before the golden ones. Blizzard seems to “pre-generate” the cards a few packs ahead (they say it is to prevent the consequences of data losses caused by problems like a server crash). If you open the golden packs just after the mini-set launch, you could get normal Alterac cards from them. Since 10 packs don’t cover the mini-set anyway, you can buffer this out with opening some normal packs first.

I don’t, but if someone posts them online and I see it, I’ll add them to the post.

Do I need to buy both rank 1 bundles to get to rank 2? I remember buying the golden bundles last time but I’m not sure if I bought the other ones and would like to not spend that in addition to the already expensive golden bundles but so far rank 2 hasn’t shown up for me…

I honestly don’t know, I never bought those ranked bundles and there isn’t a lot of info about them online.

Maybe you have to wait a bit for it to show up.

Still can’t buy Rank 2… Anyone has any more insight on this?

Seems it just takes a few days, Rank 2 finally showed up!
