Rise of the Mechs Event – New Legendary Card, 18 Class Cards Buffed, Goes Live June 3

If you thought that yesterday’s nerf announcement was exciting, better sit down before reading this, because we have some even more amazing news to share. For the first time after the game got out of the Beta, we’ll see cards getting buffed instead of nerfed. That’s right. 2 class cards from each class will see changes to their mana or stats, making them stronger. 18 cards in total, all from Boomsday Project, since it fits into the event’s theme. And those aren’t just some completely unplayable cards, for which the change won’t matter – many of them have already seen some play in their current form, which means that they have some serious potential after buffs. You will be able to see those cards in competitive action right away during the Mech-vitational tournament, happening June 3-4.

On top of that, we’ll have a new Legendary card! And, what’s even better, players will get a Golden copy of it for free by simply logging into the game between June 3 and July 1. Even if you miss the event, a normal copy will be craftable for the regular 1,600 Dust.

Here’s how the new Legendary looks like. It will be considered a part of The Boomsday Project expansion (but it WON’T drop from Boomsday packs), and will rotate out in 2020 with all of the other Boomsday cards.

Log in to the Rise of the Mech event by anytime between June 3 and July 1 and earn a golden copy of the new neutral Legendary Mech, SN1P-SN4P! Crash this clawed clunker into another Mech to build a behemoth of a bot, then do it again!

Missed the event? You can craft a normal SN1P-SN4P for the usual cost of 1600 Dust.

  • Important Note: SN1P-SN4P will be considered part of the The Boomsday Project and will rotate with that set. Note, however that SN1P-SN4P will not drop from The Boomsday Project card packs. Golden SN1P-SN4P will only be obtainable as part of the Rise of the Mech event, and the normal SN1P-SN4P can only be crafted with dust.

Card Changes:

The twisted tinkerer Blastmaster Boom has been busy in the lab cooking up buffs to cards from every class! These changes are permanent, and the cards will keep their updated stats after The Boomsday Project rotates out of Standard next year. For some context and insight into why we’re updating these cards, here’s a comment from the design team:

For this update, we decided to take two cards from The Boomsday Project from each class and give them a slight power boost. We think all the cards we chose can lead to fun and interesting experiences, and our aim for these changes is to encourage you to think differently about how you’re currently building decks. We’re hoping that some of these cards will see consistent play in the current rotation, and even inspire completely new decks without having a lasting negative impact on their respective classes. If the goal of a balance update is to address metagame outliers, then the goal of something like the Rise of the Mech update is to inspire some fun, new ideas. We look forward to hearing your feedback!

    I like the change in general but I don’t understand the reasoning behind buffing these two warrior cards. They are already considered high roll when you get them from Omega Assembly or Dr.Boom. They will still probably not be good enough to actually run in a deck but now they become insane when generated.

    Very nice. The Expension, then the Adventure, then the nerfs and now the buffs soon with a new legendary. Blizzard starts to hear the players after 2-3 years which were not good and went into a wrong way. I feel that the Team change for Hearthstone plus the troubles from Blizzard over near all games make them pressure to hear the players or loose them agian and again. These changes now we see are feeling good again. That is not just my opinion. I have more fun and more variety and more choices of decks to play succesfull. I just want to say I feel better with this 2019 and I am a player from the first minute of Hearthstone. It is a good game.

    And after all years I want to say thank you to Hearthstone Top Decks. The best, understandable, with heart supporting site of the game.

    The Buff to Necromechanic … I know it’s only relevant for the Wild format (and the deck is niche) but … what a power creep to Baron Rivendare o.O

      True – but class legendaries are always stronger than their neutral counterparts and Rivendare still has 1 more health; you’d *mostly* be hoping to use those cards for their abilities so attack strength is less important than health.

      If Hunter had a Deathrattle weapon available, however, the subtle difference in wording might make Necromechanic way more powerful, relative to Rivendare.

    Was trash, will continue to be trash: Flark’s Boom-Zooka, Unexpected Results, Cloning Device, Pogo Hopper.

    Was trash, might see play now but it probably won’t: Mulchmuncher, Luna’s Pocket Galaxy, Extra Arms, Violet Haze, Spirit Bomb, Security Rover, Beryllium Nullifier.

    Sees fringe play already, could become good: Gloop Sprayer, Glowstone Technitian, Storm Bringer.

    Best cards, post-buff: Necromechanic, Crystology, Thunderhead, Dr. Morrigan

    I think the only relevant buffs are Necromechanic, which should see play now; Crystology, which already sees play and becomes better, which amounts to a well-deserved Paladin buff; Thunderhead, which just becomes a powerhouse card for Shaman; and Dr. Morrigan, which improves so much that it might actually be good now. The scariest buff is Necromechanic, because Hunter is a strong class and this could be a good addition to already-strong Hunter decks. Security Rover and Beryllium Nullifier buffs are indirect buffs to Control Warrior through Omega Assembly and Dr. Boom, Mad Genius, which feels uncalled for.

    Snip-Snap: Looks fairly good, it should see play.

      pogo is trash? i never played with it, but i hate it when i play against a pogo deck. i think it is pretty decent if the deck is right.

        And there already is a competitive Shark Rogue deck … now that Hopper is 1 mana, it might include that card.

        Imho, you can cut the weapon removal and include 2 Hoppers and 1 Lab Recruiter (2 if you cut a Farseer).

        The winrate of Pogo Rogue is pretty awful (33.5% according to HSReplay).

        It’s very slow; you need to hold Togwaggle’s scheme in hand several turns, and after you cast it you then need to draw the extra pogos, or play Pogo Hopper + Tak + Scheme in 1 turn which costs 10 mana- on a class like Rogue with no healing and no big cards to swing the board in your favor when you lose control of it.

        It’s also very inconsistent. If both pogo hoppers are in the bottom 15 cards of your deck, you’re just done.

        This mana cost buff helps on both counts, because Witchwood Piper can now draw your Pogos consistently, but the winrate is so low, there’s no way the deck becomes close to competitive.

          Technically doesn’t the cost reduction also mean Hoppers will synergise with the Magic Carpet now? So you could be dropping giant minions with Rush…

          I don’t think that’ll be enough to make it viable still – Rogue doesn’t do Control well – but it does mean you can use those Hoppers right away to fight for board control before bouncing them back to your hand.

      Never seen someone so wrong about card changes tbh.
      Unexpected Results will be really good now. Cloning Device will see play in some Nomi decks now because it helps rotating faster trough the deck with Auctioneer etc.
      Pocket Galaxy and Extra Arms will for sure see play now, even maybe not that much.

        If you’re gonna say I’m completely wrong, don’t just say “Unexpected Results will be great now”, you need to say in what kind of deck and why, or your post is pointless.

      well, unexpected results will be broken as hell.
      3 mana for 2 drop itselfs seems okay. Lets look at that besides all other power Cards right now.
      if you get a 2 mana minion with spelldamage (Fountain) you get at least 2x 3 drop for 3 mana.
      Elemtal Evocation into Cosmic Anomaly, 2x 5 Drop for 3 mana.
      There are some ways, to creat a huge board really fast, also with Conjurer and Khadgar as follow up.
      Board focused aggro Mage. Seems okay.

        This sounds closest to the current Cyclone Mage archetype. Except, Cyclone Mage doesn’t run a single spell damage minion. Generally speaking, if you want spell damage (and it’s not a Malygos Combo deck), you want a bunch of cards that give you spell damage, and a bunch of cards that take advantage of it, so you can draw your spell damage reliably and take advantage of it with any of a number of spells. Cyclone Mage would need major surgery to do this, as Elemental Evocation, Mirror Image, Arcane Intellect, Conjurer’s Calling and Bananas gain nothing from Spell Damage; in fact, the only spell in that deck that can reliably benefit from Spell Damage is Ray of Frost.

        I agree with you that some of the card combos you mention are pretty strong, but I don’t think the overall deck strategy is strong and consistent enough for the deck itself to be good. If you build a deck around Unexpected Results, you have to make sure the deck also works if you never draw it, because sometimes both copies will just be in the bottom half of your deck.

    I like buffing a bunch of cards that barely/never saw any real play but this update will also increase Control Warrior’s survivability by a decent amount. Hopefully new control decks arise than have a chance against Control Warrior with that hero card instead of getting waited out until fatigue with 50hp.

    One has to imagine that Boomsday card costs were chosen with the odd/even decks in mind and that is perhaps why we’re seeing these buffs.

    Standouts to me are Unexpected Results and, to a lesser degree, Spirit Bomb. The former is now +1 effective mana, and the latter is crazy efficient removal.

      No, I don’t think Primalfin Totem got buffed. Last time I saw a buff, it was Unleash the Hounds mana cost being reduced from 4 to 3, and that was many, many years ago. Unless you count Mountain Giant counting as an elemental a buff, that was much more recent.

    FINALLY. I’ve been so disappointed that they’ve never buffed cards before. It’s like: if you say you want a wide design space and diverse meta, why not foster less powerful cards?

    That said, some classes (warrior, shaman, priest) are clearly getting a better deal than others (hunter, druid, mage). Warrior in particular frustrates me: no one is going actually run Rover, Nullifier, or SN1P, yet all the control decks are going to benefit via Omega Assembly and Drone Delivery. I would have much rather have seen them try to empower a different archetype like Rush Warrior or even Dragon Control Warrior.

        Prep nerf wars necessary but not enough in terms of tempo rogue. They shouldve nerfed some other cards on that archetype and rotate prep zu HoF.

    Nice! Buffs are such a smart move to help push archetypes that flopped, and to counteract a class becoming worthless from nerfs (e.g., the nerf to Preparation hurt Deathrattle and Pogo Rogues, now these buffs will lift them back up.)

    SN1P-SN4P is bonkers, it’d be playable even without echo. Crystology at 1 mana is positively insane, but I can’t argue that Paladin needs the love (especially with his best draw card HoF’d).

    Dr. Morrigan might actually be playable. Extra Arms! is now more dangerous than you might guess. Interesting stuff all around.
