Rise of Shadows nerf patch will be out in just a few hours! While it’s not huge, since only four cards are getting nerfed, we expect the meta to shake up a bit. The first day or two after the update goes out should be full of experimentation, so in order to make your life easier, we’ll be putting all of the post-nerf decks here during that period of time. We’ll try to focus on the new & updated decks, but if a certain deck remains unchanged and it’s still viable, it will still find a place on this list. Here’s a quick summary of the cards that are getting nerfed:
- Archivist Elysiana – Now costs 9 mana (up from 8).
- EVIL Miscreant – Now has 4 Health (down from 5).
- Preparation – Now reduces the cost of the next spell by 2 mana (down from 3).
- Raiding Party – Now costs 4 mana (up from 3).
Should I Disenchant Nerfed Cards?
This is a very common question, and the answer is always simple – YES, you should disenchant them! All of them, for that matter. Just dust every nerfed cards the moment update is live. Why? Because you will never lose out anything that way. Anyone telling you to “save” a certain card is simply wrong and you shouldn’t listen to him, even if a card has a high chance of seeing play in the future!
Let’s say that a certain Legendary was nerfed. You disenchant it and get 1,600 Arcane Dust. But as it turns out, the Legendary starts to be viable again a few months from now. You can craft it again for 1,600 Arcane Dust. Which means that you didn’t gain or lose anything – it was like you never disenchanted it. But for those few months, you will have extra Dust you can spend on something else you might need in the meantime. However, if the Legendary turns out to never see play, you’ve just gained a lot of Dust. An extra boon of getting rid of a card right away is that if you crack open packs from that expansion, you can receive it again and then disenchant it for full crafting cost second time!
Now a different scenario – someone told you to save X Legendary, because it should see play in the future. In case it does see play in a few months, you still have it, so there was no gain or loss in terms of Dust (but the Dust was “frozen” for that time, whereas in the example above, you could use it for something else). But now, if the Legendary does NOT see play, you’re stuck with a bad Legendary that you can either ignore or disenchant for 400 Dust. Either way, it’s a huge dust loss.
Rise of Shadows Post-Nerf Deck Lists
We’ll be featuring a bunch of Post-Nerf decks from pros & streamers. Keep in mind that the early meta can be volatile, not as much as when the expansion releases, but still. A certain deck working quite well right after the nerfs (when players haven’t figured out what’s best yet) doesn’t necessarily mean that it will stay as a part of the meta. So I would not recommend doing any extensive card crafting for the first few days.

[…] Deck Roundup: Rise of Shadows Post-Nerf Decks – Hearthstone Pro & Streamer Deck Lists For All Classes […]
Me personally I always disenchant nerfed cards and almost always end up regretting it. Yes, you can craft them again for the same cost but will you? I struggle with crafting nerfed cards even though they are playable. For example I disenchanted Murloc Warleaders when they got nerfed. Since then there have been decks which included them and I kinda wanted to try those decks sometimes but not for the cost of crafting Murloc Warleaders again. If I had kept those Warleaders I would have been able to just give a shot to those decks. Sometimes you just want to try something without knowing if you enjoy it. There is a psychological aspect you don’t consider at all.
The psychological aspect shouldn’t matter. If it isn’t worth it to you to craft the cards now then you should be glad you dusted them.
In addition what did you do with that dust? Is it just sitting there while you regret the disenchant or did you put it to use? If you put it to use then you could look at it the other way and say I regret not DEing because I didn’t have enough dust to craft cards for decks I wanted to try. In the end its just a card game have fun.
Legend with good old control warrior.
Oddly, I was so convinced Elysiana would be nerfed that I actually crafted it a few weeks ago to play about with… *phew*
I’d still say that it’s not always the case that you don’t lose anything and therefore can disenchant all nerfed cards.
If you don’t keep the ‘extra dust’ and instead use it to craft other cards and you then need one of the disenchanted cards, you’d have to disenchant other cards – thus losing dust then. I had that experience with cards like everybody’s beloved little pirate squid Patches and Giggling Inventor.
Of course you are totally right that when those cards are never played again, it’s correct to de them.
I think people should only disenchant nerfed cards if they need the extra dust right now. If not, you might hold on to them to have a bigger collection in the future.
Or just dust them and keep the dust for a bit.
I’ve seen this argument before, but I completely disagree with it. I don’t see how using the dust for something else you need is “wasting it”. Of course, if you spend your Dust compulsively on stuff you don’t really need (you’ve seen that meme Legendary in some video and want to play it, then realize that it sucks after 10 games and never play it again), that’s another story. Then you can indeed waste it. But if you use it to craft a good, meta Legendary for decks you play right now, then it’s in no way wasting. Having the dust frozen on a card that might never be played again – THAT is wasting.
If you had an option to trade a card that you don’t need now, but you might need in the future (not necessarily, you might also never need it) for a card that you’re 100% sure you need, wouldn’t you do it? That’s what dusting the nerfed cards is. You trade a nerfed Legendary for a Legendary of your choice. And you’d ALWAYS take a Legendary of your choice over a fixed one.
And even if we take the mindset of worrying about future (“I might still need it”) – Dust is ALWAYS more preferable than a card, because it’s more flexible, there’s really no exception. You can disenchant Elysiana right now and if you worry that you might need her later, you can always keep the Dust instead of using it. Have 1.6k reserved for Elysiana in case she sees play and use it only after she rotates out (I assume that most people don’t really care about Wild that much) or you’re really convinced that you won’t need her. This way if she ends up seeing play again, you just craft her with on loss with your reserved dust. And if she doesn’t, you got a full disenchant cost for free.
The only situation I see when disenchanting nerfed card is not worth it is when it sees common play right after the nerfs. E.g. if it’s only a few days after the nerfs, the meta is settling down again, and the card is still played. Then, assuming YOU are also playing it right now, keep it. But even in that case, if you don’t play any decks that run the card right now, I would also DE it, because who knows, you might not play it for the next few months and after that it might no longer be common. Well, that, or if someone has so much Dust and big collection that he really does not care, but it probably only concerns whales.
De Elysiana and craft a legendary that you need right now. But if Elysiana will still see play and you need it you can recraft it later ?! with what dust ? if you invested in that new legendary :)) . Am i the only one that sees you contradict yourself in this explanation :O ?
No, I’ve said DE Elysiana right now and wait on the Dust a bit. If it still sees play, you can get her back for no cost. If she does not, just craft another Legendary you need.
If she sees play in the future, you can craft her again with the dust you get then. Just like any other Legendary.
By keeping a nerfed Legendary, you sit on a card that might or might not see play. If you DE it and craft a viable meta Legendary you sit on a card that 100% sees play. It’s up to you.
Or just do whatever you want, you don’t have to listen to me.
Logic is hard.
A late replay, didn’t log in lately.
I just want to point out that I didn’t use the wording ‘wasting it’ once – I’d never argue that crafting other cards is ‘wasting dust’ and I think that adds some needless uncomfortable tonality to your response.
With this nerf, us Recurring Villain paladins will….Recurr!
The deck does fairly well in the new, less rogue infested, meta, and I think it could be pushed to legend with a bit of luck (5-0 so far at rank 5)
I’d say it’s worth taking a look at, the list I’ve been trying is featured below, and I would be welcome to feedback

Dreaming BIG ! I like it. But that deck won`t become viable. Sorry
Maybe not that decklist, but at least to rank 2 it’s been working well! Only lose to token druid consistently, it has good matchups against warrior and somehow haven’t lost to hunter yet!
Big dreams + Strong memes = The New Meta (Maybe not today, or tomorrow, or next year, but someday.,,,make my words….the villains will recurr)
Prediction for top contenders: Token Druid, Bomb Hunter, and Big Shaman
Warrior will continue to dominate.
What about the Rogue’s nerfed cards?
Should I disenchant them even if they still sees play right now?
If they don’t stop seeing play at all, then I guess that there’s no need to DE them if you’re playing the deck right now. If you don’t play Rogue right now, I’d still disenchant them.
“Let’s say that a certain Legendary was nerfed. You disenchant it and get 1,600 Arcane Dust.” (Stonekeep words)
Sorry to spoil your day, but if you disenchant a legendary card you ONLY get 400 arcane dust; unless, you are making referance to a golden copy of a legendary card which gives you 1600 arcane dust -but this wouldn’t make any sense, because golden legendary cards are very difficult to obtain!
He was referring to nerfed legendary cards, AKA Elysiana. You get full dust cost when disenchanting nerfed cards, so he is correct.
Please, read it again carefully. You even quoted a relevant part. I really know what I’m talking about 🙂
Oops, I am terribly sorry! I misread and misunderstood the whole thing. My bad, you are totally right! ????
????, was supposed to be an emoticon indicating “I am in shame”…
yeah! Punished him!
