Rewards Track Update Went Live – More Gold Instead of Packs

A new update was just pushed, changing the card packs (mostly from older expansions) into Gold later in the rewards track. The change was announced on the Darkmoon Faire’s release day in the official statement from Game Director Ben Lee.

A total of 6 packs are changed to 1350 Gold. Gold rewards are obviously much better – not only 1350 Gold would give you 13.5 card packs, but you can also pick the ones you want instead of being forced into the ones from previous expansions (especially Year of the Dragon packs, which are frankly just terrible deal now). But is it enough?

Hey everyone,

We’re currently deploying a client hotfix that includes the following:

Updated items on the Rewards Track.

  • Level 33 – Old: Year of the Dragon Card Pack → New: 150 Gold
  • Level 37 – Old: Scholomance Academy Card Pack → New: 200 Gold
  • Level 40 – Old: Madness at the Darkmoon Faire Card Pack → New: 200 Gold
  • Level 42 – Old: Ashes of Outland Card Pack → New: 200 Gold
  • Level 46 – Old: Madness at the Darkmoon Faire Card Pack → New: 300 Gold
  • Level 48 – Old: Year of the Dragon Card Pack → New: 300 Gold

Until this hotfix is fully deployed, some players may get the new rewards but still see the old ones. If you reached these milestones before we implemented these changes, you’ll be retroactively compensated up to the level you reached in a future update.

Maybe a dumb question, but I’ll aks it anyhow … 😉

Regarding gaining XP: Is it relevant if I win or lose a match? In other words: Do I get more XP for the same time played if I win instead of losing?

I’m personally not on level 33. I’m on level 23. I was just wondering if others are. Haha

Just stepped into 20+. So daily quest gives me average 900xp a day. For a new level I need 2900xp now (and it will be more later). So I need 3-4 days to get up one level and get a pack or 100 gold. With the old system I would get average 60 gold per daily quest and maybe 20g from the wins. 80×3/4days= 240/320gold… So far it seems to me that I could buy more packs before. Maybe I’m wrong…

Correct. We at least got 50-60 gold a day during quests before. I could earn several a week. Supposedly events will grant more XP but we don’t know when those are coming. Notably there are four slots on both weekly and daily quest rows but i have only seen a maximum of three of course. Team 5 has a habit of launching stuff to see how it works in the meta (Shudderwock, Demon Hunter Initiate) so maybe they will continue tweaking. Once i started getting into the 20s though it became obvious to me (and any other player) that this was a step down and a slower reward trickle from before.

You are wrong, it’s just less frontloaded now. Over the course of the entire expansion, assuming you complete all dailies and play about an hour a day, you’ll get about 6450 gold, plus 10 packs, 2 legendaries, 1 epic, and 2 Tavern Passes. And that isnt counting achievement xp or event/bonus xp.

In the old system, giving an average of 55 gold per quest (assuming half are 50 and half are 60) and that your winrate is 55%, youd be winning about 4 8-min games an hour to make ~68 gold, which is 8160 pure gold. So 8160 gold vs 7750 gold equivalent+2 leg 1 epic in worst case scenario.

If you finish most of the achieves that adds an extra 300 gold, and we dont know how much events will give yet

So in a game where like this would you rather have slightly less rewards up front (allowing you to have a competitive deck the majority of the expansion) or would you rather get more rewards later on (when they’re largely irrelevant outside of dusting)?

This is what I’ve been saying, the new reward system is shit and a money grab, but all the blizzard fan boys defend it as them doing us a favor….

We always got a legendary card for free on each expansion. This is not an improvement over the old system. And with 35 new cards coming soon, this is going to get even worse. Plus they have not stopped adding useless legendaries. I opened ETC and Zai on launch day.

Yeah, people who play the game a lot are around 30 already. Like streamers who play it for 8-10h per day. So I can imagine that some people are already at 33+, but definitely only a few.

So, to be continued I guess?
Of course not. They still didn’t fixed other real problems
    – The amount of XP is still way too low.
    – Player Roping to get more XP
    – (Indirectly), The game still too expensive, $80 doesn’t include Tavern Pass, and it’s even doesn’t gave complete card collections.

I guess it’s a slap on their face when Runeterra got nominated best mobile game. LOL

After a player ropes a whole turn without doing anything, the rope shows up immediatly on future turns until they do something. At least that happened to me.

So if you make an action the next turn it resets the rope for the turn, so basically you hero power than rope

Well LoR actually is a lot better game. Just wish it would go smoother on my oldish phone.
Still, i really like the xp for time instead of wins. The ropers are annoying, yes but far less annoying than having to face the same aggro flavour of the season all the time just because the system pushes that deck for fast gold farming.
With the new system players are no longer punished for actually trying out home brew or slow decks on ladder.
And even if you face a rope farmer, you dont lose xp, which you did if you dared bringing anything but the best fast aggro deck in the old system.
