Just two hours before the new expansion’s launch, Game Director Ben Lee has released an official statement about Rewards Track. Ever since the launch of new system, many players were unhappy, because after counting how far they would progress on the track, it turned out that they would earn less gold than under the previous system.
According to Ben Lee, there will be variety of ways to earn extra XP throughout the expansion, such as seasonal events, which should increase the overall amount of rewards (but people obviously couldn’t count that in their calculations).
They’ve also decided to replace 6 packs at the later stages of the track with 1350 gold in total.
Game Director also mentioned that they listen to the feedback and the goal is still for players to not earn any less gold than they did before.
Read the full statement below:
We have been listening to your feedback regarding the Rewards Track and it’s clear we missed the mark both in how we communicated and implemented the full functionality of this first version of our rewards system.
We apologize for the confusion and disappointment we have caused.
During the natural progression of the rewards cycle, our intention was, and still is, to give out extra XP over time through a variety of ways. The aim is to help players get through the Rewards Track, or catch-up if they join later in an expansion phase, ultimately ensuring players earn more rewards.
We also didn’t provide any details for how events will link into and support the rewards system. We will be providing bonus XP for various activities at each seasonal event every expansion cycle, and any additional bonus events as needed, again with the aim of ensuring that our players obtain more rewards. Our failure to communicate these factors has led to incomplete projections, for which we apologize.
In addition, you’ve provided us with a wealth of feedback, and we agree that the pack rewards at the end of the track don’t feel appropriate for the effort it takes to get them. We’re going to adjust these rewards in the later stages of the track, swapping six packs for a total of 1350 gold that players can spend as they see fit. If any players reach this milestone before we implement these changes, they will be retroactively compensated.
Our goal for the Rewards Track continues to be that all Hearthstone players earn more gold and total rewards per expansion. We’ll continue to evaluate the impact of these changes, listen to your feedback, and iterate as needed until we get it right.
We will stay true to our word and ensure that the system lives up to what we all believe Hearthstone deserves.
Thank you,
Ben Lee
Game Director
No xp given when playing classic standard or wild…. Rofl
Hearthstone blizzard employees are all a bunch of crooks and scammers. The progression hearthstone system was planned far months in advance to reduce the amount of potential gold earned through playing various in-game modes. Never support corporate thieves.
Sorry. I don’t get it. They say they will add more XP in events, and THAT is why the calculations don’t add up?
The calculations indeed don’t incorporate events, and we used to get those before too, so if those would have been counted as well (fire festival, hallow’s end,…) , the difference between old en new would even be worse!!

They have the courage to announce this minuscule change? unbelievable
At the very least double the rewards
Completely agree, I’m thinking I’m done giving them money, I opted 83 packs this morning and got 2 jank ass legendaries. What happened to the one every 20 average? Blizzard just gets greasier and greedier.
That was aimed at GaoRen below me, phone deeper.
*Derped. Point proven lol
Now that’s just bad luck, I opened 77 packs, got 8 legendaries and two of them golden. (Only from the packs)
I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if the widened out the ratios on pulls just to get people to spend more money.
Every expansion this becomes more of a pay to win game smh
F*ck my luck then. Opened 61 packs, got three legendaries. Non-golden. On average it’s maybe above what the drop-rates would predict, but common the drop-rate is ridiculous in it’s own way. Every expansion there are more epics and legendaries needed for meta decks.
3 legendaries out of 61, assuming you hit one out of the first ten, is pretty average, you should get ≈1 every 20 packs after the first guaranteed in first 10 packs hit. I feel you about them being absolutely jank though, there’s no middle ground, it’s either a class staple or useless.
Going to be honest, that just sounds like bad luck. I got 5 legendaries in 25 packs the other day.
Indeed. Me2
Where to begin… Is the way of thinking, doing and communicating things that is all wrong..
As an old time hearthstone player, I see the resources needed to fully enjoy the game rising and rising again to the point where 130€ of packs only get you 100/135 cards of the expansion, with a ton of legendaries needed to play… Ridiculous
The problem is not only the amount of XP we gain, its how we gain it ….A lot of people will roping just to get some more XP
What about not giving XP per time, but replacing what we had before, 3 wins = 10 gold, but in this case can be 3 wins = 500XP … before 30 wins would be 100 gold, now 30 wins will be 5000 XP which is more than one level after 50 and its 150ish gold …with tavern pass even better
I think this is one of the cool things of the new system though. The old system stimulated players too much to go all out aggro. It is not health that control players get punished with less gold for equal or even better win rates.
For the assholes that role, BM fuckers you’ll always get. At least you’ll get the same xp too. It is imho a lot more annoying to play against the same face hunter 10 times in a row.
What does archetypes have to do with reward systems? Daily quests were the bulk of most people’s gold income (nobody should have the time to WIN 30 games every day). Blizzards greed has simply gotten out of control, instead of dialing down the power/rarity creep or making some new formats (though I’ll admit duels was a nice attempt) like pauper or extended.
OP said that giving xp per time is worse than per win.
The old system punished people with slow decks, even if they were better than the small ones.
You are more than right that the game is waaaay to expensive for a f2p game. But I play it out of MTG nostalgia and it is still a lot cheaper than that children’s card game. 🙂
I feel like I’m getting less than I would normally, maybes it’s the fact that some of the rewards are packs I wouldn’t of my own accord, or maybe it’s the fact that the real payouts don’t come until way into the season when they’re of moot point. Either way, this new system is horrible and the fact they added a “battle pass” to fast track it just screams pay to win. They could of at least included it with the big pre order bundle if nothing else.
Just give us the gold ON TOP OF THE PACKS. What I don’t understand is why they insist on swapping something. The rewards track is too little. The xp gained is too little. And we can’t keep hearing “we’ll tweak dials,” “we’ll turn levers,” “there are events and rewards coming you haven’t heard of so can’t take into account.” If these events and rewards are so great, TELL US ABOUT THEM. The internet is in hysterics about this, and has been since it first heard about it. #doublethegold
Blizzard!
Don’t be so greedy. It’s a great game but if you continue with this greedy stuff, people will eject.
Cheers
Harador
Right. I was going to buy the $40 bundle this expansion, my first pre order, but I waited to see what this rewards track was going to be. After seeing it, I’m not buying anything.
They’d catch more flies with honey. The kid seasons events better be pretty good for me EVER to spend money again.
I’m too coffe’d up. Need to settle down. Rawr!
*mid
Seems fair to me. They said they’d listen and apply changes if the projected results weren’t as intended.
I’m sure plenty of people will keep raging because…well the internet. I’m happy to give it an expansion and see where we stand at the end of it.
Yeah for me personally who never grind for the 10 gold win this system so far seem a lot better already.
Considering the exp I have received this far, I estimate that I will reach somewhere around level 110-120. So I will get a bit over 9000 gold in only bonus gold (Not counting any gold on levels under 50). Which is way better for me who only got slightly above 6000 gold before.
just keep in mid the xp to level increase exponentially. other than that ive been happy with it.
Yeah, they have already said what all levels costs, it goes up a lot to 50, but after that it goes down again to 4000, and then up to 4500. And it’s based on all the level cost I base on how far I will get 🙂
Here you are
Level 48 9000 xp
Level 49 9300
Level 50 4000
Level 59 4500
Level 60 4500
Level 150 4500
You sir are a dreamer
^
Oh blizz! You are right. I should not do math before bedtime. I forgot to divide my current exp with two (for two weeks). The true result is that I will land around level 57-63, and that is total garbage.
My baaaaaad.
However if they start doing events as often as other “free to play” games it might work. Like pokemon go there is constantly an event going, it’s very rare to not see a event being activated, but that is the problem with hs now. The new expansion is release and there is no release event.
But hope they will up all normal rewards to now if enough complain on them.
Agreed. I’ll stop internet raging. I, also, will wait an expansion to see how this goes, but I won’t do it happily.
I’m going to get some more coffee…
Tell me lies tell me sweet little lies …
let them restore 10 gold for 3 wins on all modes
Weren’t they going to remove the hour cap of 400 G in the future?
Because then it won’t be a issue. 300 exp is around 10 gold.
Sounds good, actually thought there would be more “event’s” since they both have room for bonus weekly quest and bonus daily. But good to have it confirmed and the raise in end reward to more gold.
