No Balance Patch This Week, Changes Targeted For Early Next Week

Last week, Iksar mentioned in his AMA that devs are meeting this Tuesday to figure out whether we need balance changes and what those might be. Just an hour ago, Lead Designer Alec Dawson tweeted that there will be no patch this week. Devs are targeting early next week, because the current meta is still evolving rapidly.

And I honestly have to agree – players have thought that Questlines are broken in Standard during the first couple of days, but it turned out that most of them are manageable. In fact, some of the ones that seemed weak (like Shaman’s) are seeing more time in the spotlight right now. The meta is far from stable and making any balance changes would rely too heavily on guessing.

Hopefully we’ll learn what those changes might be in a few days.

There really couldn’t be a balance patch this week with GM’s starting AND lineups already submitted.

Well, if the patch would drop this week, it would probably be around the time they announced that it’s getting “delayed” to next week.

Sadly GMs are always interfering with balance updates. GMs have to submit decks each Tuesday, by 11 PM PDT if I remember correctly. So if a patch releases on Tuesday at 10 AM PDT (and it’s the usual time), they only have 13 hours to do so. There’s no way to get enough testing in that time – and well, at least NA players can get 13h of testing during “normal” times, but players from APAC and EU have to test throughout weird hours to get all of that time (e.g. in EU that’s 7 PM to 9 AM).

It sucks, but what can you do. Even if they released balance updates on Monday, GMs still wouldn’t have THAT much time to prepare (meta never really settles after a day), but at least it would be slightly better.

In standard no, but in wild are broken (2 at least). However 4 mana 3/3 class card give windfury to one minion vs 5/5 cost 5 neutral card double windfury, this is not power creep, this is not testing the game as always.
Raise the cost to 8 like the naga sea witch in wild, because this is the level of the card.

Wild is inherently broken. Accept it.

That’s a great comparison. Obviously something needs to change there. And while they’re at it, raise N’Zoth back to 10 FFS. It would still be overused. So why make it OP?

Mage and Warlock should not look at it on the basis of the win rate, but rather on the basis of passive gameplay.
In general, you should reconsider your combo deck philosophy. Damage peaks of up to 96 damage from hand are just bad design, as are cards that simply say I’ve won (priest quest).
    That is definitely better.
Combos have a raison d’être, but more of the board, so the opponent can do something about it.
But then only with damage peaks that require some preparatory work and do not directly pulverize the entire life bar.
OTK Hunter is a positive example.
