New Battlegrounds Heroes (Master Nguyen and Cariel Roame) No Longer Available Each Game Due To A Bug

With patch 21.2, Blizzard has introduced a system that was supposed to make the new Heroes appear more commonly. To be precise, the lobby was guaranteed to have all the new Heroes – as long as there’s enough players with Perks purchased (they wouldn’t be offered to people without perks). It was only meant to last for the first 2 weeks period.

However, the feature was disabled due to a bug. It was supposed to be random, but apparently wasn’t. While not an official reason, it looks like high-ranked players were getting them significantly more often than others in the lobby – which means that it was very likely MMR based (in this case, two new Heroes were offered to two highest MMR players with perks). Because of that, some pro players could pick Master Nguyen very consistently and farm even more MMR, since Nguyen is currently one of the strongest Heroes in Battlegorunds (in hands of a skilled player most likely the strongest one).

We’re now back to the previous system, where they will exclusively appear to people with perks until September 14, but they will no longer be guaranteed in every lobby. The new system should be fixed and back in action when another wave of Battlegrounds Heroes gets released.

9/8 UPDATE: In Patch 21.2, we introduced a new system that made it so that new Battlegrounds Heroes would be guaranteed to be offered each game during their early access period (as long as anybody in that lobby had Battlegrounds Perks). The system was supposed to randomly split the offerings between all people in the lobby with early access, but we’re now aware of a bug that is making those offerings not random. We’re disabling the new system and going back to the old early access system for the rest of this early access period (ending September 14). We expect that the new system will be fixed and ready to use again in time for the next new Battlegrounds Hero/Heroes.

I still queue up against people that can play Master Nguyen. Like 4xdrive mentions, having the one time hero powers is really OP.

I’m surprised Master Nguyen hasn’t been nerfed yet. The fact that you can get a one time hero power like Reno is ridiculously op.
