In a recent blog post about Fire Festival, Blizzard has announced big changes for Battlegrounds format. Apparently, they’re preparing a major rework targeting minion types. And now we’ve got some more details about it from Lead Designer Alec Dawson.
The number of new minions should end up close to 35. Each minion type should see 4-5 new inclusions and almost as many removals. The goal is to use similar cores / patterns for each minion type, but still make a big shakeup. Alec calls this approach “fresh but familiar”. They want players to be able to use their prior Battlegrounds knowledge to find new compositions.
So far the only two new minions officially announced are Pirates – Briny Bootlegger and Nosy Looter. More should be announced a few weeks after the release of United in Stormwind.
While no date was given for the patch yet, Alec specifically called it a “21.2 patch”. X.2 patches are the first major content updates after the release of each expansion and the last few of them have come with big Battlegrounds updates. So the timing makes sense. Those are usually pushed out a ~month into the expansion, so in the case of United in Stormwind, we should expect it late in August or early in September. That’s still quite a lot of time, but we should still have plenty of content between now and then!
Beginning to enter design lock on our Battlegrounds 21.2 patch. While we originally announced around 25 new minions, that number will actually end up closer to 35. Most minion types will see 4-5 new inclusions and a near equal amount of minions exiting. 1/3
