Another hotfix is coming out today, this time to address the bugged interaction between Maxima Blastenheimer and C'Thun. We didn’t really want to showcase the bug earlier, but since it’s getting fixed now I think it’s okay to talk about it. For some reason, when C’thun was summoned from the deck after getting buffed even just once, it would buff itself 60 times (which is a cap), resulting in a 128/128 version of it. Since Maxima forces the minion to hit face, it would result in an instant kill.
The deck itself was actually incredibly strong… when you could pull off the combo. The problem is that you had to draw your C’thun buffer (like Beckoner of Evil) and Maxima very quickly and NOT draw your C’thun (because that was an instant-loss). In the end, the deck’s win rate hovered around 50%, which is not terrible, but it wasn’t overpowered by any means. Despite that, it was quite popular – it peaked at around 7% popularity, which means that technically tons of Wild players were exploiting a bug on the ladder (but frankly – I could see something similar being a real deck). Luckily Blizzard didn’t ban anyone for abusing the combo, which would be a really stupid mistake.
9/9 UPDATE: We’re planning to deploy a server-side hotfix later today to address a bugged interaction between C’Thun and Maxima Blastenheimer. You will not need to download anything to receive this update.
Imagine banning player because they can pull a turn 6 combo 20% of the time in a game where you have a deck that win turn 6/7 100% of the time.
That’s why I’ve said it would be a really stupid, but from what I hear they never considered banning anyone for it. I’ve seen some questions about it, though, so I wanted to clarify that there will be no bans.
How are blizzard not addressing BG’s?!
Ban people for using an exploit that’s their own programming fault? Has that actually happened in hearthstone? It’s a game for Christ’s sake.
The puritans are coming! The puritans are coming!
I had the same thing coming out. But I saw your post.
Well, now that it’s fixed, Wild has been saved. wait…. oh no, back to Seedlock again…
Some online games do ban players for intentionally exploting bugs. Not talking about some minor things, but stuff that allows them to cheat.
E.g. I can’t remember which one, but one of the online shooters let players jump “under” the map and shoot people from down there while they couldn’t respond with fire (since from their perspective shots came from the ground). People exploiting the bug were banned. And IMO for a good reason, because it ruined everyone’s experience.
Of course, the C’thun thing is not nearly as severe, but I’m just saying that they COULD issue bans for it – explotining bugs breaks ToS that every players sign when they register.
