Update: Bugs related to Velarok Windblade and Jotun the Eternal were fixed.
Update #2: Land Lubber has been temporarily removed from Battlegrounds for balance reasons. It will be back after the next balance update.
Update #3: Some new issues were added while others were fixed. For example, Kazakusan now works correctly in Arena (previously it gave you an empty deck) and Shadestone Skulker no longer causes infinite loops. Also, if you have performance issues on Android, there should be a patch waiting for you that will fix those.
Just like every big update, patch 28.4 has released with some new bugs and issues. The last few patches were relatively bug-free, with mostly minor stuff, but this one is a bit different.
The biggest issue (or a blessing, depending on how you look at it) so far is Velarok Windblade getting unintentionally reverted to his former state. You need to play 3 cards from other classes to activate it instead of 1.
Lightshow is another card that got unintentionally changed, while Jotun, the Eternal was also banned due to a bug with its effect. Other cards like Tickatus, Raid Boss Onyxia or Kazakusan also have some bugged interactions.
Heroic Duels mode was also turned off temporarily because some players were abusing it (I don’t exactly know how, but I don’t think that many of you are going to cry over Heroic Duels not being playable for a while).
I’ll post an update once more bugs are added or a hotfix gets released.
Patch 28.4 is now live, bringing with it the Delve Into Deepholm Mini-Set, with new dual-class cards, more Excavate Treasures, old friends, and more!
Follow this post for more information about known issues that we’re tracking in this patch, including the following:
- [Resolved Jan 19 – Hearthstone] Velarok Windblade was unintentionally reverted to its prior transformation requirement (3 cards from another class).
- [Resolved Jan 19 – Hearthstone] We’ve temporarily banned Jotun the Eternal due to a bug with its effect. It will be unbanned once we’ve resolved the issue.
- [Hearthstone] Lightshow was unintentionally changed.
- [Hearthstone] Tickatus’s effect isn’t working as intended.
- [Hearthstone] Raid Boss Onyxia continues to deny that Starlight Whelp is a whelp.
- [Duels] We’re temporarily turning off Heroic Duels due to players using unauthorized technology to exploit the mode.
- [Arena] Kazakusan is not used to Duels Treasures in Arena and currently does not generate treasures to fill your deck (he just deletes your deck and abandons you).
- [Added Jan 19] Land Lubber is temporarily removed from Battlegrounds until the next scheduled balance window.
- [Added Jan 22] We’re investigating issues with client performance on Android devices.
- [Added Jan 22] School Teacher’s Nagalings have no effect when they are taught Misfire or Heat Wave.
- [Added Jan 23] A bug was partially fixed to prevent Shadestone Skulker from causing infinite loops. The loops have been mitigated and the remainder of the fix will come in an upcoming patch.
- [Added Jan 23] Kazakusan will no longer incorrectly remove your deck in Arena.
- [Added Jan 23] An update is available on Android devices to resolve performance issues. This will require a client download from wherever you get your usual updates.
I started a heroic duels run before patch, hoping to get a free ticket. Now it blocks on the resume run step due to these hacker problems, so I can’t play either heroic nor casual duels. Rather annoying as I am trying to do the achievements there. Now I have to drop tons of ladder mmr as I am trying to roll two ones on snake eyes or summon 8 bovines in one game…
Alternative text: Velarok has been balanced. Card is an obvious outlier needing only 1 card. Combination of charge, 3 mana and the discount is too much. Especially when it gets bounced 4 times. That’s coming from someone who loves the deck.
I agree that Velarok needs a balance pass, but I think that 2 cards would be a nice compromise between what it was before the buff and the current situation.
Or make it 3 but count cards played while he’s in the deck too. That would reduce his early-game power dramatically (that is the biggest issue) but later you would just draw him and he would be active.
This is my favorite solution
Yep, I would favour this as well. Personally not a fan of him having charge as well but I can live with that:
