(Live Now!) Hearthstone 30.2.2 Patch Notes – Standard, Wild and Battlegrounds Balance Changes, Bug Fixes

Update: The patch is now live! Since it’s a data-only update, it should be available on both PC and mobile.

Blizzard just posted patch notes for Patch 30.2.2 launching later today (probably around an hour from this post). The patch was already teased on Tuesday, but we now have all the info.

Here’s a quick summary of Standard and Wild balance changes.

Standard – Nerfs

  • Tidepool Pupil is now a 2 mana 2/2 (previously 1 mana 2/1).
  • Doomkin is now a 7 mana 4/5 (previously 6 mana 3/4).

Standard – Buffs

Wild – Nerfs

  • Wildpaw Gnoll now costs 6 mana (previously 5 mana).
  • Secret Passage now costs 2 mana (previously 1 mana).
  • Sorcerer's Apprentice now costs 2 mana, but discounted spells can’t cost less than (1) mana (previously 4 mana, but no 1 mana limit on discounts).

Find out more (including all of the Battlegrounds changes) in the patch notes below:

Patch 30.2.2, launching today, includes balance changes across modes.

Hearthstone Updates

The following cards have been adjusted to be weaker:

Dev Comment: The Standard metagame has a variety of decks that are feeling balanced against one another. Because of that, we’re only changing a couple cards that are leading to unhealthy play patterns that we want to address. Tidepool Pupil is quite strong, and is allowing decks to copy key cards too easily and play them too many times per game. We hope this change doesn’t delete the card from the metagame entirely, but does make it less effective as an enabler for combos and spells that are particularly effective when repeated many times per game. Doomkin isn’t as much a statistical outlier, but is causing more frustration. The card seems to have overstayed its welcome, so we are slowing it down by a turn to decrease its popularity.

Tidepool Pupil

  • Old: [1 Mana] 2/1
  • New: [2 Mana] 2/2

Doomkin

  • Old: [6 Mana] 3/4
  • New: [7 Mana] 4/5

zzDRUID_WARLOCK_JAM_029_enUS_Doomkin-98382_NORMAL.png

Dev Comment: On the Wild side, we’ve identified a few play patterns that are over the line even for the powerful Wild format. Secret Passage has been a focal point across almost all Rogue decks since its creation, enabling an unhealthy power level across the class as a whole. On top of that, Wildpaw Gnoll could too easily be played on turn 1, keeping opponents from developing onto the board from the start of the game. This change makes the turn 1 Gnoll less common and makes playing multiple Gnolls less efficient. The sheer volume of spells that Sorcerer’s Apprentice allows is something we think should be addressed, so we’re making it no longer go to 0. With that change, we think it’s safe to return to its original mana cost.

now that Mystery Egg got BUFFED, the deck will certainly be much stronger.

i am so glad that i did not craft this, because blizzard not giving refunds for essentially killing a deck just does not seem really fair

It always saddens me whenever they add that “but not less than 1” line to more and more cards. It seems to be slowly seeping through the game like a virus, gradually taking the heart out of Hearthstone…

It’s snowing tomorrow…. they take ten years to have the wording “but not less than 1”, now if you can copy past this and apply to all card should be great.

Mystery Egg is NOT a buff; will they stop blatantly nerfing combo pieces and call it a “Buff”? The card costs 1 less but only discounts by 4 thus destroying that combo it gets played with in Wild and they 100% know that.

Not even angry that combo got nerfed but whoever crafted that card should at least get a dust compensation; when did Actblizz get THIS stingy? Same thing with Shoplifter Goldbeard: destroying a combo/archetype is NOT a buff.

Barely anyone cares about wild. They don’t balance standard card for you 10 wild players sorry to say that.

I agree. It’s rightly classified as a buff when we only look at Standard format. But it’s a clear nerf in Wild format. Even if they didn’t plan for it specifically, a relatively popular deck became much worse.

I think in cases like that (when a change is both a buff and a nerf at the same time), they should give out full Dust refunds.
