We’ve got a full list of the current deck recipes you can potentially utilize if you are running Whizbang the Wonderful. I also go over some of the commonly asked questions about the card relating to hero powers, golden decks, or using him in arena and tournament events!
The deck lists below have been updated for the new recipes that were added in Descent of Dragons!
How does Whizbang work?
If you get yourself a Whizbang the Wonderful in a pack or you decide to craft him, all you’ll have to do is throw him into your deck. He’s the only card required, and he will be shown in place of a hero in your deck selection area. The name of the deck will also just be “Whizbang is Wonderful”! Once you select this deck and go into a game, you will be randomly given one of the 18 deck recipes to play.
If my Whizbang is gold, do I get a full golden deck?
YES! If you are lucky enough to have a golden Whizbang the Wonderful, each of the decks you play will be filled with gold cards!
What’s your hero power with Whizbang?
Your hero power will be the class of the deck recipe you were randomly given. There’s no difference in hero power, and you don’t see Whizbang as your hero portrait.
Is Whizbang available in Arena?
Nope! You won’t be able to replace your arena deck with a deck recipe unfortunately.
How about using him in a tournament?
Nope! Blizzard has stated that you cannot use Whizbang in any official Blizzard events. However, maybe some other event hosted by a third party might allow for Whizbang?

Is it me, or has Blizzard forgotten to update Whizbang with the new darkmoon faire recipes?
Could you please update new decks, sometimes I still play Whizzbang, but I don`t remember which deck I get on mulligan.
hello sir, if you go onto my profile i actually made all the new whizbang recipes from this expansion. i go send email to article writer and ask to update it it’s easy copy paste from what i made so yes good 🙂
Please update to new patch
Hello, why i can t craft WHIZBANG THE WONDERFUL at rank 49?
Because that would give you too many good cards for too little dust. The purpose of ranks 50-25 is that new players can play vs each other with basic cards sprinkled with the few cards you can open in packs. From rank 25 onwards you’ll start facing meta decks with powerful cards, so Whizbang becomes a fair card then.
The Handlock, Pure Paladin, and Dragon Druid decks from here are so fun to play–I’m ecstatic every time they come up, even if they aren’t the strongest from this list. I’ll probably even craft one or two of them once the meta stabilizes a bit more.
Hero Power Hunter is surprisingly effective, although I’m still learning the optimal mulligan strategies and when to switch from board control to beatdown. Same with Dragon Mage–it looks weak, but if you play it like RoS-era Conjurer Mage you can get a powerful early board, plus Dragoncaster on curve -> either Power of Creation or Conjurer’s Calling is nuts.
DEAR BLIZZARD,
MOVE WHIZBANG TO EVERGREEN SET AT ROTATION PLZ!
When i played it last it gave me one of the classic decks
Deck recipes were updated for Descent of Dragons expansion!
When i played whiz bang last time it gave me the warlock classic deck, is this a bug?
Weird, maybe they have changed it. It never gave classic decks before.
That’s why I thought it was odd, it happened after the update and I got Frostwolf Warlord and Acidic Swamp Ooze in my opening hand, I checked the deck recipes and these two cards were in the classic warlock deck. If this is how it will be moving forward that’s really sad, I never relied on Whizbang but it was a sort of way to play a random viable deck, even as a player that pays for the game its still extremely fun
Have you further tested it? Did you see any other Classic recipes? Maybe only that one was added by mistake or something?
I would test it but I’m just swamped with other work right now :/
Tried it again, got classic hunter I know because I got raptor in mulligan
For what it’s worth, I probably played about 100 games of whizbang since the expansion and I haven’t encountered anything but the decks described in the article, but I wouldn’t put it past them to mess this up in some specific case.
I was playing Whizbang non-stop yesterday without problem. I’d recommend contacting Blizzard customer service–it sounds like there’s something jacked on your account that they need to straighten out on their end.
Most of these SoU decks are pretty fun. I’m really glad they included so many quest decks–they really are unique, interesting archetypes that are fun to at least try out if not viable to craft/ladder (looking at you, Unseal the Vaults!). I just wish they hadn’t left the “Archmages of Dalaran” (Frog/Cyclone Mage) and Impfestation (Jumbo Imp Warlock) decks from RoS… Neither of these decks were good then, and they’ve just gotten worse since. Or perhaps more appropriately: there are clearly superior versions of both Cyclone Mage and Zoo Lock out there, and so its frustating to play these–especially when so many players are experimenting with quest and highlander decks which just straight out-gas them. Still: over all, this set of decks is pretty fun, and fantastic if you’re like me and still hesitant to commit any dust so new in the expansion but still want to play around.
Cyclone was good then, as was zoo warlock
The refined versions of Cyclone and Zoo were good–not these. Look closely at this zoo deck list. It has Rafaam scheme and Jumbo Imp–those are good when you have them in your hand for a while and play them at the perfect time, but they are TERRIBLE to topdeck. More importantly: they aren’t what you want in a zoo deck, where you’re trying to vomit minions onto the board ASAP. You need more consistent cards. Most successful zoolock decks run sticky minions like eggs and Mecharoo and then Grim Rally to buff and Diseased Vulture and Leeroy to close out.
Good point, the mage deck had too many big minions and not enough cheap spells
What are the new decks for SoU? I presume each class will have a quest deck but will the ‘nice’ classes have highlander decks?
When this rotates to wild will the decks change to be good(ish) in wild.
I imagine it will be just like it is now: viable but weak. You’re essentially handicapping yourself to standard cards while your opponent has the entire collection. If you’re clever and/or lucky you should be able to swing some games, but overall your decks will just be a lower power level.
The real question, though, should be: what are your alternatives? If you’re either a budget player without a lot of cards or habitually dusting when cards rotate out of standard, then a random standard deck might still be better than whatever wild cards you can put together from your collection.
I’ve heard that Whizbang deck is not allowed on World Cyber Game’s tournament rules. Are they allowed WCG allowed it now? I’m just curious if they allowed this type of deck on an eSport event.
When you get Whizbang from Rafaam you know you can’t lose.
I just noticed that when I play with this card’s deck in standard, my random opponent is ALWAYS someone who plays with this card’s deck. so it’s Whizbang Deck vs Whizbang deck with different hero types all the time. did anyone noticed that?
I don’t like it this way. It’s like Blizzard putting these Whizbang players in a sandbox and say “go play there kids, away from other players “..
I noticed that. And that’s s**t as hell
And if me and my opponent are playing the same class we’ often having exactly the same cards in decks. And that’s annoying even more (^_^)
Not an official Blizzard event, but Whizbang the Wonderful is also not allowed in World Cyber Games 2019. Tournament formats would be useless if all tournaments allowed Whizbang. Was there ever an event in Hearthstone Esports history where only Whizbang’s decks are allowed?
I’m DUMBFOUNDED that there’s no silence priest, bomb warrior, or dragon paladin.
At least all the decks look fun, even if there are some very questionable choices. They should be good for some fun at least until the new meta settles and it becomes clearer what’s worth crafting.
i think that’s on purpose; they just don’t want to include powerful decks, but fun to play with.
I’m not sure I buy that. First off, the last expansion had Spell Hunter, Odd Mage, and Odd Warrior–all of which were considered top-meta at some point. Second, there’s nothing that indicates silence priest, bomb warrior, or dragon paladin will be powerful–if anything, early indications are that all might be underwhelming. Finally, if there’s been any theme to which deck recipes Blizzard picks, its been that they want to showcase the new cards–for example, 5 of the 9 new class totems found there way into decks for Rumble; now for Rise its down to 2 class totems but they add in 6 of the 8 new twin spells.
There is a reason why there are some questionable card choices. tbh most of the decks are tier 2, you are not gonna get 16 tier 1 decks with just 1600 dust and I’m pretty sure blizzard doesn’t want all their players to use whizbang, they can’t get any money if this happens.
Hearthstone – beginner’s guide, classes, Hero Powers, card types, game modes
First things first, our starter guide will help you get to grips with the very basics of Hearthstone. We’ll walk you through how a match plays out, what makes one Hero different from another, the different types of cards available in the game, and how you can get more of them for your collection. We’ve also outlined the different play modes available in the game.
This post was updated with Rise of Shadows deck recipes. Comments below this one might be outdated!
FYI, yesterday’s update included new deck recipes, and presumably the upcoming expansion’s new Whizbang decks. …Let’s just say some of these decks–especially the highlander ones–are “bold”. 😛
Ok, here’s the deal with this card.. all you newbies.. (there are a lot more levels to rank up for you guys) ..
you can use this legendary minion to help you learn what this game can do… the recipes don’t change that often so if you can craft the required cards and learn to play the random decks you get, you will have a big advantage with the learning curve. For those of us that have been playing since the beginning, craft a golden copy and play it whenever the new expansions come out to be the only one on the block to have all golden decks. Just for Shits and giggles……Cheers
This is good for beginners, it´s great for beginners…Or for doing quests…Ranked is unplayble with this, even casual is problematic with winrate about 30-40%…
It’s actually ~50-60% winrate at Rank 20, which I think is the target audience. And it let’s you try out meme decks that can be fun to try but lose too much to justify crafting (e.g., discard-lock, surrender to madness priest, Gonk druid, etc).
It’s absolutely horrible for quests, though, just because you have no control over which deck you draw.
I was talking about rank 16, 15, 14. Sorry, I don´t mentioned that. I absolutely don´t agree with your “horrible for quests” statement, because with this card I always do all my quests quickly and sometimes I do more quests in one, two games. It´s really good for quests, but you must play more then 5 games per day.
Shudd deck doesn’t even have Grumble. Blizzard literally hates F2P players.
Grumble’s rotating out, can’t play it in Standard anymore
The comment was made 4 months ago.
And that’s why I’m not getting tired to mention that you should always indicate where old comments start when updating an article. 😉
You might have noticed that I’m doing it most of the time lately… forgot this time around lol. I’m adding it now.
I wish there was a more elegant way to do it but I don’t really know one other than deleting all of the comments every time I update something (but that’s also not a good idea, since often a lot of them are still relevant + it’s a lot of work on posts with lots of comments).
But I still don’t understand it, for me it’s obvious to look at when the comment was made before replying to it.
I had the golden version. But i DE him , needed a legendary for a deck and also he worthless in ladder, didnt work for me at all. But of course its a nice card with a small collection for new players.
Sad to see that none of the Shaman decks are including ‘Krag’Wa, the Frog’ or ‘Spirit of the Frog’, but otherwise I think the new inclusion looks great. I’m definitely gonna play a lot of Whizbang the first few days.
Reckless Ritual is without quest. Are you kidding?
Because SIENCE!
i know right bull****
It would be way too op with the quest
hahaha sweet I got a golden whizbang I can definitely try these new decks before release date
Just checked – doesn’t work, obviously. Still old recipes available.
these decks look much more promising and consistent than the last recipes. looking forward to bling me golden wonderboy
I honestly dont get the excitement over this garbage card …
all these basic decks suck massivly , i played now 7 games with it and lost 6
If you compare that with my selfmade / meta decks , i win 6-7 out of 10 easely .
You seem a bit mad. May I offer you a spoon of sugar against the salt?
Hmm, that’s weird. Out of 36 matches, I’ve won 24 and lost 12, including a 9 game win streak. It’s not meant to get you to legendary, but it’s a great card for newer players, or those with small collections. Gives you a chance to learn the new card and have a variety, too.
You think they’re going to put 18 tier 1 meta decks packed in to one legendary card? That’s all anyone would use. How it currently is is already pretty generous. Use your head.
I would love to use Whizbang but my game just doesn’t show him. He’s not in the menu to craft him. I checked my other account for where it should be and it’s just missing
you need to be ranked 25 or less to have him shown
LMAO what a nerd…
Can you use Whizbang to complete class specific quest such as win 2 classes as a mage?
Yes but it usually will take a while
I love Whizbang, but I hate when I play against anyone using him
How do you know?
So umm quick question why the FUCK does the taunt warrior decklist suck so much. I mean, supercollider? Zilliaxe with no other mechs? What the heck, man, and I get it in like 40% of my games with whizbang like wtf, blizz plz fix.
Zilliaxe is in the deck because of Countess Ashmore, its a lifesteal card that has taunt, as for supercollider, you use it to clear minions, because you have a ton of armour and should have no problem attacking into a high attack card that will then kill its neighbour, and hopefully itself.
Super colider is good first of all, and Zilliax is a rush minion for countess as well as time crier. Also consider yourself lucky getting this deck. Odd quest warrior is one of the best decks to get off Whizz. Also if you aren’t winning you probably aren’t making good trades.
taunt warrior is pretty good if you ask me im on a 62% winrate with it so
Supercollider is arguably one of the best warrior cards. It’s ability for board control is phenomenal. So ya you’re clearly a noob.
i mean you must really suck at the game if you don’t see the value of these two cards… git gut
Thank you blizzard for making this card. I can feel like kibler now
The recipes will change with new expansions or nerfs?
That’s a very good question honestly.
Yes the decks will change with every expansions as for nerfs no i don’t believe that they will.
I would think so. I mean, it DOES incude, for example, armor warrior, Greymane’s alliance, and recruit druid. I mean of course the decks would change because of nerfs, WIZBANG IS TOO WONDERFUL TO PLAY SUCH WEAK CARDS YOU SEE!
They will for sure change with every new expansion, I’m not sure about nerfs. I would imagine they will be changed as well.
Whizbang rank 5 to legend?!
challenge accepted!!!
The only question is do I want to craft regular or golden?!
GOLDEN 4 LOVE <3
If you craft golden your whole deck is golden so it’s obviously golden
Not just the cards in your deck, but also your hero, even if you haven’t got your 500 ranked wins on the heroes it chooses. Honestly, it’s quite beautiful.
But u may disclose to your opponent that u might be using whizbang’s deck and hence unfamiliar with the deck should u use golden
Ur opponents will think ur a whizbang noob and you don’t know how to play and they will ease off and u win easy
I don’t understand the no-tournament rule. It’s not like anyone would be bringing Whizbang to a tournament, unless Blizzard changes the deck recipes to T1/T2 decks.
It makes a lot of sense. First of all, you can normally only bring one deck of a certain class – e.g. if you play Even Warlock, you can’t play Zoo. Whizbang gives you a random deck, so it might give you the same class second time.
Then, you often have to submit decks before playing and they’re publicized – Whizbang is random, so you can’t really submit a deck you will play (because you don’t know).
Then, the bans. How would you handle that? You ban one of your opponent’s classes, with Whizbang you don’t know what class you will be playing against.
It also doesn’t really work with Last Hero Standing format, where you have to play with the same deck until you lose with it. You will be basically breaking the rules, as you won’t be playing with the same deck even if you queue Whizbang deck again..
On top of everything, it adds an extra layer of unnecessary RNG. One of the biggest things in tournaments is planning your line-up against what you think your opponents will bring, then doing the correct bans and picking the right decks to counter whatever your opponent will be playing. And now imagine a pro player doing all that work, banning the class his line-up is countered by just for Whizbang to roll a terrible matchup. HS already has enough RNG as it is, no need to add more to the competitive scene.
So basically, it creates a lot of small problems like that. It’s better to just ban it instead of changing the rules around a card that is bad in competitive anyway.
Whizbang could be considered its own class and its own deck. Nobody in their sane mind would ban an opponent’s Whizbang, it’s a very likely guaranteed victory. If someone had the courage to bring it to a tournament, the other players should just take a glance at the deck recipes and they’ll be fine. But I guess Blizzard does it in case they make good deck recipes in the future, in which case some pros would bring it to play the mindgames.
But that still leaves lots of problems, like lack of predictability and unnecessary RNG. In the end, competitive is meant to be serious – you want to make a skillful decision about your deck choice, and your opponent picking Whizbang against you kind of denies that, because you never know what you will be playing against. In my opinion, it simply creates more problem than it solves. And since it’s not a good card anyway, I don’t think there’s any harm done in just banning it. So far I haven’t seen a pro being seriously upset with that decision (on the contrary, most of them are happy), only the regular players, who don’t partake in official tournaments anyway (and keep in mind that Whizbang can still be available in non-official tournaments, where organizers make up their own rules – that includes tournaments widely available to amateurs).
But now since we KNOW that they CAN ban cards in tournament, I hope that they will go ahead and ban some problematic cards, like Yogg was in the past. If we get a card that’s fine in Constructed, but not fine in tournament, banning it from competitive play is a better option than nerfing it.
The decks are utter garbage, they are literally flaming piles of excrement, if you loaded one up it would begin violent spraying hot flaming stool all over your face. They are that bad. They are worse than that. You would be better off taking a spike, jamming it into your eye, through your cornea, into your brain, and then squishing it around. You’d have a better win record. They are not good. They are the worst decks I’ve literally ever seen. Letting Twitch chat draft you a deck would be better. I think it’s safe to let people play with them in tournaments.
This is the most vivid description of a hearthstone cards ever. I don’t want to know how you get these ideas
Probably the only card I’m gonna ever craft golden. Ultimate value…
Decks are certainly not optimized, But still look Really solid. And the fact you get to play so Many decks and archetypes with you one card it’s unreal… Golden Whizbang instant craft for me
Do you get different random decks everytime you play or do you get the same deck forever?
different decks everytime
Thx
So enemy couldn’t know that we are using Whizbang deck?
Or it will be like with baku and genn greymane decks, whizbang will be shown at the start of the game?
Enemy won’t know, that’s why they decided not to add a hero portrait.
Hearthstone Deck Tracker kinda gives the game away though as soon as something is cast/summoned … technically nothing *started* in the deck so every card on your opponent’s tracker has the little “gift” icon on it.
The missing is clear: Get legend with Whizbang. Who will be the first one?
Do ranked wins count towards the class 500 wins to get gold characters?
i think i demands what hero you play in match. If whizbang gives you druid, win will be counted for druid ec.
Confirmed, I tested it this morning.
The win you get with the deck you are given is going to count towards the 500 for that class that you just played.
