Solutions Guides

We have compiled guides for each section of the Puzzle Lab: Lethal, Mirror, Board Clear, Survival, and finally DR. BOOM HIMSELF!

Update

We got a closer look at Puzzle Lab heading into the launch next week from Blizzard. The video details what we will be facing in the lab, as well as briefly showing off some of the puzzles!

In the Puzzle Lab you will face puzzles that will require you to find lethal in one turn, create a perfectly mirrored battlefield, clear the battlefield of minions, and survive against your opponent’s next onslaught. You can start and play in any lab, so if you get stuck on a puzzle you can move onto a different lab.

Here’s the official breakout of how all of these are explained by Blizzard:

  • Lethal (Destroy the enemy hero): In this experiment, the assistant is tasked with neutralizing the opponent in one turn using the cards at their disposal. We expect this will provide valuable insights into the destructive properties of many of our inventions.
  • Mirror (Create a perfectly mirrored battlefield): These tasks challenge the assistant to create a board state where both sides are perfect mirror images of each other: minion positioning, health, attack, etc. This should yield plentiful data on various means of board manipulation.
  • Board Clear (Clear the battlefield of minions): Pretty straightforward: clear the board of all minions. Our research suggests that minions play an important role in winning matches, and this set of challenges will help us better understand how to get rid of them.
  • Survival (Survive the enemy Hero Power): Finally, the Survival trial requires the test subject to restore their own health in order to survive their opponent’s next onslaught. A recent study has shown that dropping to zero health inversely correlates with winning games, and this experiment will further explore that relationship.

You will be helping out Lab Assistants and Head Scientists throughout each lab. There’s two assistants and two head scientists in each of the particular puzzle types.

Here’s a list of some of the assistants you will be helping solve puzzles with:

  • Glow-Tron 2000
  • Dexter the Dendrologist
  • Astromancer Arwyn
  • Poisonmaster Pollark
  • Boomnician Breena
  • Test Subject
  • Lil’ Stormy
  • Demonlogoist Drann

These are the Head Scientists you will be helping, they will likely have much more difficult puzzles to solve. You will recognize them as Legendary cards from The Boomsday Project expansion.

  • Crystalsmith Kangor
  • Zerek, Master Cloner
  • Dr. Morrigan
  • Electra Stormsurge
  • Myra Rotspring
  • Stargazer Luna
  • Boommaster Flark
  • Flobbidinous Floop

Each of the assistants and scientists have 8 or 9 puzzles to work through, so you are looking at completing over 100+ puzzles to complete the entire area! Each puzzle is also only one turn, and rather than an end turn button you can hit the reset button and quickly restart the puzzle. Also, if you ever want to stop playing, you can at any time and pick up where you left off!

Final Boss

If you are able to complete all of these experiments you will go against Dr. Boom himself in a one-on-one showdown in his personal workshop! If you can take down Dr. Boom you will be rewarded with this awesome card back!

Puzzle Lab Card Back

We’ll eventually have tips and tricks with guides to help you complete all of the experiment, so stay tuned! Remember that this will be released two weeks after the actual expansion release!

I’m actually really enjoying the puzzles – it’s a completely different pace to playing “real” Hearthstone; you just sit back, analyse the resources you’re given and try and work out the solution… the last Mirror Match with the Dirty Rats was a swine though 🙂

Might not be much replayability in it but it’s pretty good for a freebie.

I understand it’s thought as an skill-improvement, but just a card back is too poor after the brain explotion you’ll have if you can finish all this adventure. Was, at least, so much to ask for one pack after finishing each step, blizzard? Plz.

Anyone else having trouble actually playing this? When i click on one of the puzzles it just stays on the loading screen and eventually disconnects me. I can play the other game modes just not the puzzle lab so the problem must be specific to this.

I had no trouble playing. Maybe Blizzard staff don’t want you to improve your skills.

Had the same issue. Uninstall then reinstall and it’ll fix it.

I’m pretty fond of puzzles so I reckon I’ll enjoy this. The card back reward is not going to be as feel-good to show off as the other solo content rewards given how easy it will be to cheat by looking up the answers on sites like this but the challenge itself should be fun.

Hopefully I won’t need to look anything up myself 🙂

Its the same as the previous 2 expansions. This isn’t designed to give you cards. Its designed to text your game knowledge and skills.

My only worry with this game-mode is that there will only be a single solution to the puzzles so once it’s complete there won’t be any replay value. That’s something i really enjoyed about dungeon run and monster hunt was the replay. I hope there are multiple solutions to find <3

      July 15, 2018 at 1:57 PM

I honestly worry more that solution will force you to craft a bunch of useless cards

What do you mean “craft a bunch of useless cards?” I thought they would provide the cards for you in the challenge.?

They will provide u with cards and its bad!

          • Truffles
            July 23, 2018 at 7:26 PM

First of all why is that bad? If you are doing this it is most likely for review, strategy enhancement, or learning, and sure that 1 legendary card looks soooooo cool and you don’t like pay to win, but if everyone who did this got those legendary cards it would be insane in lower levels. Second, just save up dust from packs or something.

After 2 years of non interest I just completed the heroic league of explorers. That cardback cost me 2k+ dust in cards I’ll never use and that’s for the not-so-easy-cheesy-budget solutions. I don’t mind the free content version of the past year.

There will probably be multiple different scenarios. Probably not an unlimited amount but enough for SOME replay value.

In the video they said that many puzzles have multiple answers and they are also interested in seeing what the community can come up with

Good thing we get a cardback. New ones are really hard to come by. That’s how you get the playerbase to play a different mode than standard! GJ Blizz

I was waiting for this kind single player mode in this game similar to the puzzle mode from yugioh video games that requires you to find the lethal.

Sounds interesting and not too RNG based like the other single player contents.

    Time will tell.
