A new teaser just came through the official Hearthstone Instagram. It includes the postcard we’ve seen previously, but also features some gold coins that look very much like Gold Doubloons with an embossed ship on them. Check it out below!

The gold coins appear to have the words “I Iam Absolutum Dominium” which means “I Have Absolute Ownership” in Latin. There’s also a small Skull and Crossbones at the bottom of the coin indicating that it could be Pirate related. There’s writing on the back of a postcard which says “Wish you were here” with a heart and ending with a T. It could be Talan from the previous teasers, or it could be some mystery person we’ve yet to learn about.
I knew it there was something to do with gold coins!
The thing is to know what kind of coins and what to do with them.
I mean, are they normal gold coins to just buy packs? In-match coins to gain extra mana? Exchangeable coins to get special items like trinkets, rings or off hand weapons?
Or maybe there are cards with special interactions with the coin? That would be really cool like 2 mana 3/3 overload 1 Battlecry: if u started the game with the coin, gain +1 health.
I don’t think it would be anything that would favor going second. From what I’m thinking, it could be a new mechanic that works by using a special pool of some sort of mana. Kinda of like c’thun.
That could be another mechanic too! But the coin mechanic could still work both ways. I could see a Druid card that transforms into one beast if you have the coin or a different beast if you didn’t have the coin. Blizzard has expressed trying to widen the scope of their design space and this certainly would be unique to hearthstone.
