Even though yesterday was full of amazing news, we have one sad information to share. Players have asked hundreds of times and hoped that Whizbang the Wonderful – a Boomsday Project card – will stay in Standard despite the rest of expansion rotating out. We had multiple petitions to move it to Classic set (e.g. it could replace a Hall of Famed Legendary).
The reason is that Whizbang was the most F2P-friendly card ever printed – for a mere 1.6k Dust you could play a bunch of different, interesting decks. Of course, most of them weren’t competitively viable, that why you haven’t seen it very often at higher ranks, but it was tremendous help for new players who wanted to try out different things.
The best thing about Whizbang was that the card was updated every expansion without any real input from the devs. Since it gave players a random deck recipe, and those were updated with every new set anyway, it was like a win-win scenario.
However, it seems that devs have decided to not keep the card in Standard after all, and confirmed that it will rotate out along the rest of Year of the Raven. Of course, you will still be able to play him in the Wild, but given that deck recipes are Standard (and already weaker than your average Standard meta deck), I don’t suspect that players will have great time using it in the eternal format.
So the upcoming 3 weeks are your last chance to play him in Standard. You can find the full list of deck recipes provided by Whizbang here!
Still, there’s a hope that he’s rotating out because devs have plans to release another similar card soon. For example, Zayle, Shadow Cloak will still stay in Standard for the time being, but given that Zayle has only five decks and they were never updated, it’s inferior to Whizbang in nearly every way (not to mention that a silly cape would never be as wonderful as our favorite, fabulous gnome).
No plans to move Whizbang to Classic; he’ll be rotating to wild (and still works there) with the start of Year of the Phoenix.
New and returning players can get free competitive decks now, and all players get Demon Hunter and 30 cards free!

More sad face.
Zayle decks have some cards that are rotating out, how will that work?
That’s a good question. Maybe they plan to rework them when rotation hits?
I actually think it would be fun if they didn’t. Would add a reason to actually use the card.
