Update: Nerfs are live already! The cards can be disenchanted for full crafting cost.
The nerfs were just announced. The nerfs should go out later today, we don’t have the exact time yet, but I would expect it to happen soon. After that, Blizzard will be looking at the power level of Demon Hunter over the next couple of weeks and might intervene again when they get more data.
- Skull of Gul'dan – Mana cost increased from 5 to 6.
- Imprisoned Antaen – Mana cost increased from 5 to 6.
- Eye Beam – Outcast Mana cost increased from 0 to 1.
- Aldrachi Warblades – Durability decreased from 3 to 2.
This patch is server-only for now. It means that the updated stats / mana cost will display in green/red during the matches. After they release a client-side patch by the end of tomorrow, it should go back to normal.
Which is actually a good thing, because it means that they are willing to release quick, server-side patches if necessary.
Additionally, a bunch of Demon Hunter cards got their offering rate decreased in Arena, until they can address everything properly with micro-adjustments in a future patch.
Hey everyone,
Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be keeping an eye on the power level of Demon Hunter. Our goal is to make changes when necessary in order to get Demon Hunter to where we believe it should be. Today, we’ll be applying the following balance updates to a few Demon Hunter cards in a server-side patch (meaning you won’t have to download anything):
- Skull of Gul’dan – Mana cost increased from 5 to 6.
- Imprisoned Antaen – Mana cost increased from 5 to 6.
- Eye Beam – Outcast Mana cost increased from 0 to 1.
- Aldrachi Warblades – Durability decreased from 3 to 2.
We wanted to get these changes out the door today, and in doing so you will only see the new stats for these cards—displayed in both red and green—in matches, not in your Collection. The red and green numbers will return to white and the cards will be updated in your Collection with a data-only patch that we’re expecting to deploy before the end of the day tomorrow.
For Arena, we’re making changes today that will see Demon Hunter class card offering rates decreased until we’re able to properly address the class with more accurate micro-adjustments in a future patch. The following cards have had their offering rates reduced in Arena:
- Chaos Nova
- Coilfang Warlord
- Command the Illidari
- Flamereaper
- Furious Felfin
- Glaivebound Adept
- Illidari Felblade
- Immolation Aura
- Metamorphosis
- Netherwalker
- Nethrandamus
- Priestess of Fury
- Skull of Gul’dan
- Twin Slice
- Umberwing
What really bugs me is that I crafted the Legendary Baku the Mooneater card for my Demon Hunter deck. It only makes the card worth it if your deck is odd… and because of the nerf, some of the essential cards in the deck are now even. 1600 dust gone. Did anyone successfully get a refund? When I try to open a ticket re this subject, I don’t even get to send it because the system auto-detects the subject is a refund for a disenchated card, and you just get a generic reply. Still, very unfair and shitty way to lose 1600 dust.
I don’t play wild, but Baku should be a solid legendary to have anyway in your collection. Try Odd Pala or Odd Rogue, they were OP back in the days, and you will surely found it useful in the future, when more strong odd cards will be release!
Thanks for your reply 🙂 I actually found a new Baku DH today, so I’m happy with it.
Usually I would say let the meta settle and so on, but this is way too obvious of a problem. Look at all the assets Demon Hunter has:
-Early aggression
-Anti-aggro taunts
-Late-game big minions (priestess of fury is a stupid card)
-Freaking lifesteal from a class that uses face to attack
-Burst Damage (more than hunter or rogue)
-FREAKING silence???
-BOARD CLEAR??
-CARD DRAW (it draws more than warlocks for crying out loud)???
-That guy with charge that ignores taunt is just freaking terrible design
JUST WHAT THE HELL IS THIS CLASS’ IDENTITY BESIDES BEING INVINCIBLE?? COME ON!
I wouldn’t be surprised if you say the same thing with shaman class back before the total nerfs.
It’s only been ~3 days. Let them have fun with it. Every deck and every card is being experimented to best counter DH.
Maybe you can’t see it, but every deck is joining together to beat DH in their own way.
I’ve seen decks that can counter DH (but not perfected yet), but fail to beat other hero.
So take it easy.
Nerf or not, i hit legend with DH today, i find basically only DH, Warlock, and Druid where are the other class?
It might seem sloppy that they’d have to nerf Demon Hunter so fast, but I think you have to keep in mind just how hard it is to balance an entire new class with so many new cards. It’s one of the reasons they haven’t done it before. No matter how much you playtest, it’s impossible to predict all of the interactions and possibilities. When a new card is introduced to an existing class, you have previous cards to compare it to, a previous environment that helps you to predict. Plus, tiny changes can make huge differences: 5 mana vs. 7 mana Luna’s Pocket Galaxy; 5/6 vs. 4/5 wolves from Dragon’s Pack. They playtested a lot, and made a lot of changes in playtesting. But then on the first day when it is live you get millions of games worth of new data.
I think we should have expected a sort of “Beta testing” period as Demon Hunter is phased in. There will probably be a series of adjustments over the next couple of weeks. That’s not a bad thing, but part of the process. More than that, if you open these DH cards, you can get a lot of dust as they’re nerfed!
Well said. It’s tiring to read knee-jerk complaints (almost) every time something changes, so it’s refreshing to see someone recognising the hard work that goes into this game, and it’s important to note that for all the issues we’ve had recently, overall the game is in a good state. Yes, Shamanstone happened, and yes, they’ve felt the need to instate unprecedentedly quick nerf patches, but they’ve been trying new things all year, so there’re bound to be some hiccups along the way.
Demon Hunter has been okay in wild, but I think this made it way more difficult to build good decks with it.
Warloc and Noraml Hunter for example is way more aggressive.
How much time do I have to disenchant to get full dust?
This nerfs are a joke. Pretty much all of the cards are still powerful and DH is still super strong and unfun to play against. Not that it doesn’t have counters, but having to play against 20 DHs in a row certainly doesn’t help.
This is one of the worse, most repetitive and boring expansion openings I have ever experienced.
I still enjoy it mor than Whispers of the Old Gods (only C’thun decks for like 2 weeks…) but it’s a close second. 😉
To be honest, I still prefer C’Thun meta. At least there were several playable classes. Now it’s just DH after DH. But it was close second to me.
I think the dh Need more Nerf like the 0 mana should be a double spell
Antaen just stupidly strong the minute i saw that card i was like ???? are you dumb blizzard
Lets not talk about the demon that can deal 6 damage at the end of the turn
Turn 5 Antaen –> Turn 7 Priestess was nuts. DH has explosive early game so opponent would struggle to slowly get on board in the middle turns. And then once they’ve done that suddenly they’d lose everything and be staring down a 10/6 and a 6/7 mini-Rag. This if DH didn’t drawn Skull of Guldan and burst them down with the extra resources.
This very fast nerf is a great response from Blizz. As it stands DH is still pretty strong but everything feels a little bit more fair. Good picks on the cards to nerf too. I don’t think they overnerfed it this time as they often do. Or rather they probably overtuned the suspect cards way too much before release. As mentioned below one has to wonder what the play-testing process was like wrt DH.
Not live over here. And no corrections on the cards themselves… :/
Where were all these pr0 streamers when they were needed? I have not heard any single word from them about DM being OP. Pecunia non olet, hm?
Dh will still be way OP
DH is still ridiculously strong and versatile.
A faster nerf is good, because it’ll make the meta stable a lot faster. But if they still on the process of nerfing others, than I’ll need to wait longer before start crafting deck.
I even scared to play ranked this week (I don’t really want to lower my 3rd place to 5th again).
But oh boy. Day 2 nerf is way too fast. This is breaking news to me.
Odd demon hunter is dead without skull..
I mean, not every class should have a viable Odd and Even deck. Just imagine that the deck never existed 🙂
I would agree if there were other viable options for demon hunter in wild. This nerf kills the only deck demon hunter had that could keep up with secret mage and even shaman. Until more cards comes out for the class, you can’t play it as a wild player now.
This is an untrue statement. While Odd Demon Hunter was the more popular build, non-odd Aggro Demon Hunter with the fully pirate package and Ship’s Cannon was doing great as well. Yes, that deck also ran double Skull, but it’s less effected by the nerfs. Odd Demon Hunter will probably be back eventually, and I still run into some people testing new builds post-nerf.
Had a game yesterday where I coined out antaen on 4 then played another antaen on 5. My opponent insta conceded. Guess I won’t be having anymore free wins.
