This is literally the worst deck to play at the moment. Coming from odd pala/rogue and midrange hunter. This deck is terrible. You can’t win something. You get destroyed by every odd/even deck in game, evey priest deck, i will not mention hunters (especially death) you just insta conceide. Even with the best possible mulligan and the best draws for 6 turns you just lose because you can’t keep up a board with those 1-3 minions and the 2-damage hero power is useless after turn 3. If you face a taunt/control deck just insta leave. You don’t have the damage not the spells to remove taunts after turn 4. Don’t craft it, you will lose your time. I got baited.
Lo, i finished this deck today and got a 13 win streak with it (6 casual, 7 ranked), climbing from rank 8 to 5, with the 7 win streak from rank 7 to 5, and I don’t even have a Stargazer Luna, running an Arcane Intellect in her place.
Yes, odd paladin is a nigthmare, but I won a game against it because firefly and fire elemental gave me huge value, and I got arcane missiles +2 cinderstorms wiping his tokens 3 turns in a row. Even warlock is also very hard, but things like zoolock or the majority of hunter decks are favorable match-ups. Odd warrior is also very hard, but those are a bit rare. Heavy taunts are usually not a problem, due to daring fire eater in early game, or face hero power or face Nights Blade battlecry, which can just finish a low health opponent.
All in all, a fun deck to play, and not underpowered at all.
Been loving this deck. Added a second counter spell in place of a nightblade. Working well. Anyone think there’s a place for alextraza in this deck? I can’t really decide if she would be worth it to help in some slower games. Im missing jaina so in long games I can get dragged out to my death if they are able to clear my ragnaros/clockworks before they die. Considering a faceless manipulator as well, not sure what id replace for it though if I change the second nightblade for alexstraza.
It’s an even card so you can’t use it, would probably stick with the Nightblade, turn 8 you can Nightblade fire eater ping for 7 damage which is hopefully enough by that point
I’d say the best part of Jaina is being able to survive long games into exhaustion. However my experience with this deck is that most games are over before she is ever needed. It’s more of an insurance than anything else. Crafted this deck yesterday and I am sitting at 10 – 4 with it, progressing from 19 Div 3 to 16 Div 2. Really enjoying the play style. I have only played Jaina in a couple of the matches.
Yeah these were my thoughts, I’ve won a couple of games that have gone past turn 15 but that’s mainly from fire eater clockwork hero power combo, think it might be useful against otk pally as the deck runs out of steam which allows them to occupy board and get the combo off. Ruines can mess with that win condition so it’s maybe a good save. May try it but yeah again can’t see it being terribly useful, might be able to use for the control variant as well.
This deck is excellent. I too dropped the Nightblades for two Faceless Manipulators and I have found that to be a welcome level of added flexibility (remember that they can also copy opponent’s minions). If you manage to get them to copy your Clockwork Automations then your hero power will win you the game). You can also use them to summon copies of Ragnaros which is quite fun. I also threw an extra counterspell in there for the Funglemancer since I was never using it, and dropped a Dire Mole for a Cobolt Scalebane.
Two things to consider when making/improving this deck:
1) the secrets strategy is somewhat underwhelming. Secretkeeper + Kirin Tor Mage + Counterspell/Explosive Ruins is ok, but frankly I think that replacing these cards with taunt cards to protect your two other winning conditions (Clockwork Automations + hero power / Ragnaros) would be something to explore. I haven’t tried it yet but I think it would make the deck a bit more stable and less reliant on the luck of drawing the appropriate cards for this combo.
2) this deck is TERRIBLE (and I mean TERRIBLE) against token and control decks. Odd Paladin kicks this deck up and down the board. I would potentially consider including an AoE remover (e.g. Flamestrike) because a) I never struggle to survive until turn seven anyway and b) once your opponent has that much on the board, your win conditions go out the window (they will either destroy your Clockworks or Ragnaros’s ability will have too much to target… plus he will get killed the next turn).
Just my thoughts. I’ve really enjoyed playing this deck and it’s working great for laddering but those are the pitfalls that I’ve noticed thus far.
Now of course I see that “secret” is in the deck title. Anyway, the point still stands that this has the bones of a very good odd mage deck and you can play around with it to make it very good!
The reason Secretkeeper is in the deck, if anything, is to draw hate. It locks out Secret Hunter and versions of Spell Hunter, helps in the mirror against Odd Mage, and people are just generally frightened when it hits the board for whatever reason. I’ve played many opponents whom would waste a spell or a minion to snipe off Secretkeeper over something else, like my Pyromaniac.
I run this deck with pretty good success above rank 10. I don’t run secret keepers, and opt for masked contender. I also run arcane artificer and flame strike.
I found FLJ to be too slow in my opinion. Games you’re going to lose, you’re going to lose. Same with winning. Decks feels very flexible with upgraded hero power and cheap spells to hedge aggresssive decks
Been having fun with this version of Odd Mage. Although, I think another Counterspell and Fungalmancer could be added to round out their playsets. Also, Nightblade, why? Seems so out of place. Lifedrinker is similar and a little better in my opinion, but I’m not sure why Nightblade is even in this deck in the first place.
I didn’t find that Luna was pulling her weight for me most of the time, and I pretty much always wanted a second Counterspell, as it was absolutely wrecking entire turns countering Nourishes, Hunter Spellstones, Flamestrikes, etc. Felt great.
I’m not sure about this one yet, but I swapped out one Dire Mole for a second Fungalmancer because of how well it was performing for me. I also felt the original list was a touch light on the top end.
As for the Nightblades, they seemed immediately underwhelming and only mildly synergistic to me, so I swapped them for a Faceless Manipulator and Zilliax. The Faceless Manipulator is an awesome addition to this deck and incredibly versatile, as there are a bunch of great copy targets in the list:
Clockwork Automaton (obviously good to have an extra one of these)
Ragnaros (this one feels VERY good when it happens, which is rare)
Leeroy Jenkins (a turn-10 double-leeroy play feels excellent)
Zilliax (maybe you need two of these in a pinch)
I’ve also often used it to copy Lich Kings or other big minions that the opponent drops to help me keep up on board if things aren’t going my way.
I’m torn between Zilliax and a second Faceless Manipulator at the moment, but I really like the emergency relief that it can provide, since this deck doesn’t have any other taunts or healing. In addition, if you can get a Clockwork Automaton to stick, you can buff it up with Zilliax and make it much more difficult to remove. Sometimes you even get to stick the buffed Automaton and then Faceless it the next turn, which feels pretty damn good when it happens.
Overall I think this is a much more fun Odd Mage variant than the control lists, and I hope this one gets refined and is able to hold its own as the meta solidifies.
I would really like to add in another Faceless Manipulator and Fungalmancer to round out the playset, but even with just one copy of each, I think Zilliax, Faceless Manipulator, Fungalmancer, Leeroy Jenkins, and Clockwork Automaton give a pretty decent bag of combat tricks.
Not sure about a 2nd Fungalmancer, you dont get the board mostly, to even buff 2 minions, thats what i feel after a lot of games. Counterspell i did too, Ziliax and Faceless sounds really good too, what about Zola? you can copy either Fireeater or a Pyromaniac, or if it comes to lategame, your Dragonhawk?

Yeah, it may be worth swapping the 2nd Fungalmancer out depending on whether the meta allows you to have a couple minions on the board going into turn 5. I was getting great turn 5 Fungals for a while, but I’m currently on the fence.
I don’t have Zola, but I think that could be an interesting addition. Would definitely nice to get another copy of Jan’alai, and probably pretty easy to do, too, since people usually throw every resource they have at getting Ragnaros off the board once he’s summoned.
That’s a really interesting idea that I hadn’t considered! I guess the main question is whether you can reliably prevent your opponent from triggering the first secret you’ve played before you have a chance to drop the Contender. That and it probably feels pretty bad to have in hand if you don’t have any secrets.

Amazing deck! Just went from Rank 5 to 3 with like 70% winrate. Your boardcontrol is insane, you have easy removals up to 4 damage with Fireeater or Automaton. The enemys face will slowly suffer from your heropower too. This deck really likes Rogue and Hunter Matchups. Dont really like Druids. This deck doesnt contest the board too much, you mostly stay on one or two minions on board. Pyromaniac, Luna and Cat for draw is really good. Nice synergy also with the spellpower for Explosive Runes from the Cat. If your enemy is afraid of removing your secrets or your board, you can pull of a Combo up to 16 damage and more with heropower if lucky draw happen. The best curveplay is Dragonhawk on 7 Mana, sometimes the game is over even before that. Counterspelling the hunters Spellstone or smth. Removed one Nightblade for a 2nd Counterspell and it feels much better. The 20 Games i played Nightblade wasnt a big deal. Its a decent Body for a 5 drop with this battlecry, but it was never gamedeciding. Currently 15-4 with this. Really fun and aggressive play, countering 80% of the decks right now.

This deck is absolute nightmare to play let alone to climb. Meh.
well, the meta from rank to rank is different. but like i wrote up there, your removal with this is great. you also got explosive runes, so enemy cant play any minion, rattle hunter cant hold an egg on the field. cause it gets deleted so fast. that day i maybe did not face any odd/even, i cant tell you anymore, but later on i had bad days too! still think that you can climb with it pretty fast and easy. you need to learn some matchups/mulligans for sure.
you need some draw. Cat and Pyro will give you some, maybe Luna not that important, but you can tempo up with it pretty hard! I think worth crafting of you interested in fast magedecks at all.
I think that Luna is a great card, but not well-suited to what this deck is trying to achieve, and I’ve been getting by just fine without it in my list. The (2) x Black Cat and (2) x Pyromaniac has been more than enough card draw for me in most cases.
The quintessential use case for Luna has always been the old(er)-school Tempo/Aluneth Mage archetype, in which the majority of the deck consists of cheap spells, made even cheaper by Sorcerer’s Apprentice, which can create huge draw chains. This deck, on the other hand, is more midrange-focused, and as such doesn’t have enough cheap stuff to get the kind of value out of Luna that would merit her inclusion. Most of the times I played her in this deck, I got maybe one extra draw off of her before she was killed, and if that’s the benchmark, I’d pretty much always rather have a Black Cat or Pyromaniac.
So what will be a good replacement? Another defensive tool? Tar Creeper? Maybe Adding one Blast Wave, for at least some clearance? Ziliax? Zola? I guess i will try Zola or Ziliax, sounds good. so Zola at least doing the same, giving you one “draw”. Maybe Fireeater, or Pyro, or Dragonhawk copy?
You have to be a little bit lucky for sure. But you look for Counterspell. when Hunter is at 4 Mana with Coin, or 5 Mana. Depending if its a Secrethunter or not. If you can hit the Spellstone with Counterspell, he loses so much tempo. Against any MidrangeHunter you Need to control the board. To stop Houndmaster or Razermaw. That is more difficult cause Hunter has a lot of 1 DropBeasts he can buff. Cause this Mage lacks in Boardclear a lot! Singletargetremoval isnt a big deal, but if he Plays a lot onedrops, you might lose cause of better Hunterboard. So look for Fireeater, Pyromaniac, ArcaneMissiles, Cinderstorm for clear. maybe Cat for Draw and some Minions on board you can trade.
You need your spells and removals for your heropower, dont see a way to fill with elementals. Than you can also play elemental odd, but its kinda midranged/minionbased.
Yeah, I think elemental synergies would just dilute what this deck is about. Most of the time the game plan is to dominate the board in an aggressive fashion and liberally use your hero power to remove anything your opponent tries to stick. If you can hit turn 5 with a solid board presence, that gives you the option to either Fungalmancer and snowball even harder, or to develop a Clockwork Automaton with your other minions as cover.
From there, it almost starts to feel like a combo/OTK-style deck, as you can do crazy amounts of damage between the Clockwork Automatons, Jan’alai and the Daring Fire-eaters. (2) x Daring Fire-eater with a Clockwork Automaton on the board gives your hero power 12 damage, and there are all kinds of ways to do crazy swing turns with this deck.
So far it’s feeling extremely well-rounded to me. We’ll see how it shakes out in time. 🙂

I have not had a problem with Odd Paladin. Control their board and let their chumps swing in on your minions.

Deck works great, have had a 75% winrate. Exchanged 2 nightblade and 1 dire mole for Zilliax, another Counterspell and a Faceless Manipulator.

I think you made some pretty good choices! I did something similar, I took the original deck and amended the following:
-1 Dire Mole
-2 Nightblade
+1 Counterspell
+1 Zilliax
+1 Faceless Manipulator

I added one Masked Contender now for tempo. Now i can play 2 minions and 2 secrets for 6 mana!

This deck, on the other hand, is more midrange-focused, and as such doesn’t have enough cheap stuff to get the kind of value out of Luna that would merit her inclusion. Most of the times I played her in this deck, I got maybe one extra draw off of her before she was killed, and if that’s the benchmark, I’d pretty much always rather have a Black Cat or Pyromaniac.
So what will be a good replacement? Another defensive tool? Tar Creeper? Maybe Adding one Blast Wave, for at least some clearance? Ziliax? Zola? I guess i will try Zola or Ziliax, sounds good. so Zola at least doing the same, giving you one “draw”. Maybe Fireeater, or Pyro, or Dragonhawk copy?

You have to be a little bit lucky for sure. But you look for Counterspell. when Hunter is at 4 Mana with Coin, or 5 Mana. Depending if its a Secrethunter or not. If you can hit the Spellstone with Counterspell, he loses so much tempo. Against any MidrangeHunter you Need to control the board. To stop Houndmaster or Razermaw. That is more difficult cause Hunter has a lot of 1 DropBeasts he can buff. Cause this Mage lacks in Boardclear a lot! Singletargetremoval isnt a big deal, but if he Plays a lot onedrops, you might lose cause of better Hunterboard. So look for Fireeater, Pyromaniac, ArcaneMissiles, Cinderstorm for clear. maybe Cat for Draw and some Minions on board you can trade.

What about to add any elemental synergy?
You need your spells and removals for your heropower, dont see a way to fill with elementals. Than you can also play elemental odd, but its kinda midranged/minionbased.
Yeah, I think elemental synergies would just dilute what this deck is about. Most of the time the game plan is to dominate the board in an aggressive fashion and liberally use your hero power to remove anything your opponent tries to stick. If you can hit turn 5 with a solid board presence, that gives you the option to either Fungalmancer and snowball even harder, or to develop a Clockwork Automaton with your other minions as cover.
From there, it almost starts to feel like a combo/OTK-style deck, as you can do crazy amounts of damage between the Clockwork Automatons, Jan’alai and the Daring Fire-eaters. (2) x Daring Fire-eater with a Clockwork Automaton on the board gives your hero power 12 damage, and there are all kinds of ways to do crazy swing turns with this deck.
So far it’s feeling extremely well-rounded to me. We’ll see how it shakes out in time. 🙂
