With the release of Prince Renathal the wild version of Big Spell Mage became a very solid deck!
It has sizable amount of health, armor gains, various ways to cheat out big spells, multiple freezes, early game and big threats, damage sources, enough card draw and a fun gameplay above all.
The core of the deck is based on the currently popular version from the standard with the addition of strong options available in wild.
Naga Sand Witch especially strong in this deck. With coin you can play it on turn 4 implementing next turn strong moves like Drakefire Amulet, Power of Creation or Mask of C'Thun and repeating them with Grey Sage Parrot afterwards.
Raven Familiar and Starscryer provide a stable draw of spells as well as an early game.
Using all the big spells makes playing Magister Dawngrasp a very strong move. However, usually you should not be greedy and play it while you can.
On mulligan:
- Keep some early-game cards. Against agro you can keep Amplified Snowflurry.
- Almost always keep Naga Sand Witch and Balinda Stonehearth.
- Consider keeping Magister Dawngrasp.
Tips:
- Use Barbaric Sorceress wisely. Don’t play it against pirate warrior or other minion based decks. If you have Mailbox Dancer on the board, break them first.
- Better play Rune of the Archmage as a reactive play.
- Don’t try to copy only the strongest spells with Grey Sage Parrot. Sometimes Blizzard is a better option.
Update (05/12/2022):
Made some replacements:
- Spammy Arcanist and Rune of the Archmage were removed from the deck, both not consistent enough. Flamestrike is added and it fits well.
- Barbaric Sorceress replaced with Celestial Ink Set but the first one can be good against some decks. Together they might conflict.
- Rustrot Viper is a flexible spot.
- Golakka Crawler is added against pirate warriors and rogues but could be replaced also.
- Replaced Power of Creation with Arcane Defenders.
